Apple will switch to USB-C port on iPhone 15 in 2023, says Kuo
According to reputed Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 15 will adopt a USB-C port in place of Lightning. In a series of tweets Kuo said Apple is going to make this change in the year 2023. Kuo didn’t mention about the specifications of the upcoming model, rather talked about the most debatable part of the device — the Lightning port.
(1/2) My latest survey indicates that 2H23 new iPhone will abandon Lightning port and switch to USB-C port. USB-C could improve iPhone's transfer and charging speed in hardware designs, but the final spec details still depend on iOS support.
— 郭明錤 (Ming-Chi Kuo) (@mingchikuo) May 11, 2022Mr. Kuo says he conducted a “survey,” which indicated that adopting USB-C “could improve iPhone’s transfer and charging speed in hardware designs, but the final spec details still depend on iOS support.” His information is mostly from the supply chain network, and his predictions are often accurate.
Apple Lightning Port
Rumors and predictions about Apple adopting USB-C have swirled for years. The company has already embraced the smartphone industry trend by adding USB-C to its most recent i-Pads, and also using USB compatible Thunderbolts on many Macs. However, it took the regulatory battering by European Union has somewhat played its part of pressurizing the company to make the necessary changes. The EU proposal is to make USB ports mandatory on all electronic devices including iPhones.
Apple has always stayed reluctant to this very idea of shifting to USB-C ports. The company was focusing on making the iPhones portless. Kuo himself, last year predicted that the company wasn’t thinking of USB-C, he said, “Apple is planning to keep the lightning ports on iPhones for the foreseeable future.
A USB-C port
Now, as per Kuo’s latest predictions if the company does decide to shift to USB-C port in iPhone 15, it will benifit in various ways. This could be faster charging and broader connectivity with Apple’s own USB-C powered devices. If this latest info pans out iPhone 14 will be the last Lightning port-equipped iPhone. Let’s see.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 renders unfold a similar design to Z Flip 3, but dimensions could be different
After our encounter with the Galaxy Z Fold 4 5G recently, we now have stumbled across the Galaxy Z Flip 4 5G renders. This is the other Samsung folding lineup with a flip-and-fold design. The Z Flip 4 looks a lot like the Z Flip 3 in these images shared by OnLeaks (Via 91Mobiles). The publication tells that except for the screen dimensions, it’s mostly the same familiar design.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 5G First LookIn the Z Flip 4 renders, we see its blue color variant. There could be other options too when it goes on sale. For now, let’s examine the design elements.
The new Z Flip continues a petite profile with a punch hole (Infinity-O) display as the primary one. This could stretch 6.7-inches diagonally and measure about 165.1 x 71.9 x 7.2mm
Although the cover screen looks identical to the precursor, there could be differences in terms of its use cases. Samsung could pack in some new features with the software. The latter could be Android 12 with OneUI on top. And the processor powering all this could be Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+.
Coming back to the surface, the flip structure could benefit from an improved hinge mechanism. The source tells the chassis could have an aluminum frame and glass back.
In the images, we also see its USB-C port, a microphone, SIM tray slot, speaker grille, a power key plus fingerprint reader, volume rockers, and dual cameras.
We may come across more details about the Samsung Fold and Flip phones in the days leading up to their launch. So, stay tuned.

EA and FIFA split up after a 30 year partnership
Big news in gaming today as one of the biggest power couples in the industry has split up! EA and FIFA have called it quits after a staggering 30 years. The company stated that it declined to renew the FIFA license as it wanted to expand beyond the scope of FIFA and target specific markets with more focused content. CEO Andrew Wilson stated in an earnings call, “When we think about the future of football right now, we really made this decision on the basis of being able to deliver experiences that our players wanted. They told us they wanted more modalities of play. They told us they wanted to see more commercial partners in the game that are representative and authentic to the broad global world of football. They're telling us they want us to move beyond just the core experience and really build out this digital football experience. And they're telling us they want us to move really, really fast.”
EA declines to renew FIFA licenseEA feels that the FIFA license is a bit restrictive and does not allow the company to create more focused content and personalised experiences. The fact that FIFA also upped its licensing fees to about $1billion for four years per World Cup cycle must also play a huge role in the split. Although EA can afford the fees, it just doesn’t make sense for the company to shell out that kind of money. In an interview with the BBC, EA Sports vice president David Jackson stated, “Money plays a critical role in most negotiations, but the reason we are doing this is to create the very best experiences we can for both players and partners. As part of that, you consider whether or not your investment in one place is better or worse than an investment in another.”
How this plays out for fans of the franchise is still yet to be seen but EA does still have the rights to the Premier League, La Liga and UEFA so fans will still be able to play as their favourite players, just without the World Cup content. It should also be noted that going forward, the game will now be called EA Sports FC.
