Qualcomm has an event booked for May 20, 2022, in China. It is dubbed the Snapdragon Night. The announcement was made through the Chinese microblogging site Weibo. Qualcomm President and CEO, Cristiano Amon has called it a big day for the Snapdragon Insiders. The company has said that it will be bringing out a new Snapdragon platform on that day and we suspect the debutants to be Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus and Snapdragon 7 Gen 1.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ Specs (Expected)

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ launch on May 20

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ (SM8475) is rumored to be based on TSMC’s 4nm manufacturing process. Its setup could include 1x Cortex X2 prime core (clocked at 2.99GHz), 3x Cortex A710 Performance cores, and 4x Cortex A510 efficiency cores. The rumor has it you could get about 10% performance gains on the CPU front and some speed bump in graphics rendering.

Some of the likely early adopters of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus are the Motorola Frontier 22, OnePlus 10 Ultra, Xiaomi 12 Ultra, etc and these may see the daylight in H2, 2022.

Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 Specs (Expected)

Snapdragon 7 gen 1 launch on May 20

Following the new nomenclature, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 is expected to be the upcoming midrange offering from the brand. It could be equipped with 4x A710 performance cores running at 2.36GHz and 4x A510 efficiency cores with 1.8GHz frequency. The graphics could be from an Adreno 662 GPU.

The first Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 phone could be the OPPO Reno 8 which will debut on May 23rd.

So ahead of that there’s the May 20 Qualcomm event. We’ll see what the chipmaker has in store for us on the so-called Snapdragon Night.

NVIDIA RTX 40 series could launch as soon as this July

We’re approaching closer and closer to the launch of the next generation RTX 40 series graphics cards based on Ada Lovelace architecture, and new information from a well-known leaker suggests that it might be sooner than expected; as soon as July or August.

This information comes courtesy of well-known leaker Kopite7kimi, who mentioned early Q3 as the possible launch date, meaning July or around that time. Gamescom is also set to take place in August, so an August launch could also be a possibility. If the launch does take place early or mid-Q3 as per this new information, it will be much earlier than expected. We were initially expecting a Q4 launch; around September or October if we consider previous launch windows. There are merits to this early launch for NVIDIA, giving it a head-start over rivals AMD and even Intel who are set to launch their Arc series of graphics cards.

Computex is also set to return this year, with COVID precautions, so we should expect a smaller event. NVIDIA is set to hold a keynote address there on May 23, however, it’s still up in the air whether or not any news on the RTX 40 series will be revealed there.

Nvidia next-generation RTX 40 GPUs coming soon?

The high-end cards will most likely be revealed first since they tend to grab the most eyeballs. Additionally, their production numbers will not need to be as high as the lower-end models. So far, we’ve heard little about other GPUs in the series, except for some code names which were revealed on HWiNFO's March 30 release notes.

In fact, there is another full-fat AD102 SKU with 900W TGP, 48G 24Gbps GDDR6X, 2*16pin and higher frequency. But no one knows whether it will become an actual product. Because the test board of AD102 has more than two 16pin connectors, so everything is possible.

— kopite7kimi (@kopite7kimi) April 27, 2022

In addition to having significantly higher shader counts, it would seem that the high-end GPUs are also power hogs. According to Kopite7kimi, the AD102 SKU is a whopping 900W GPU, which is frankly insane, but looks like NVIDIA desperately wants the GPU crown back. We’ve already witnessed the RTX 3090 Ti cross the 450W mark, so the rumour from Igorslab suggesting 600W GPUs looks more like an actual possibility.

We’re not looking forward to needing two 16-pin power connectors to run our GPUs.

OnePlus Nord

While the rollout process is underway in India, OnePlus has stated that the rollout in the European Union requires extra validation steps. However, the update should hit the European markets “as soon as possible”, according to OnePlus.

OnePlus shared this news via its community news forum. They also highlighted some issues that a future update will aim to fix as well. OnePlus has been rolling out a plethora of mid-range Nord devices, but it’s great to see that the original Nord will also be getting some much-needed love in the form of OS and security updates.

The stable update for OnePlus Nord users is around 4 GB and it also packs the April 2022 security patch. So, users must ensure to have the requisite space available in order to install the update successfully. The phone should also be at above 30 per cent battery to kick off the update.

Sony PS5 India stock improves significantly despite chip shortage

The Sony Playstation 5 recently went on sale on May 16, 2022, but a lot of people were easily able to purchase the gaming console without any major issues. Ever since its launch, the current-gen gaming consoles - the PS5 and the Xbox Series X, have remained out of stock. Online scalping and chip shortage remain two main reasons why the PS5 remains out of stock. The same is also the situation with the Xbox Series X too but its smaller version, the Series S, remains in stock more often than not.

Hey ICG! From which website did you buy PS5 today?#IndianConsoleGamers #ps5 #ps5india #restockps5india

— Indian Console Gamers (@ICGOriginal) May 13, 2022

Both the PS5 and the Xbox Series X are in the second year of their life cycle. At this time, these consoles should have been readily available in physical shops around the world. But due to the global chip crisis, stock issues remain persistent. Another bit of bleak news came from Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger who warned that the chip shortage could stretch into 2024. But he did say that Intel is ready to face these upcoming challenges.

Despite a bleak outlook, the recent PS5 India restock was a relatively great success. It was the second consecutive PS5 India restock that Sony conducted in a span of two months. And while the last PS5 India restock was seemingly a disaster due to very few units available, the latest one easily gave buyers a fair chance to nab a brand new PS5 for themselves, as per the Twitter handle @ICGOriginal. The handle publishes information regarding the restocking of next-gen consoles and related accessories, helping users to buy them at MSRP or at a discount if possible.

PS5 India Stock Improves Giving Hope For The Future

In a recent poll to their viewers, it came to light that around 25% of the page followers were successful in securing a PS5 for themselves. Around 20% had no success, and around 34% of the audience already has a PS5. In the comment section of the Tweet, a lot of people were also sharing news of how they were successful in buying a PS5 at MSRP.    According to another poll, Amazon came out on top with 41% votes as the platform for enabling most users to buy a PS5. Meanwhile, Sony was in second place with a 29% share, Meanwhile, Flipkart and Reliance digital were in the third stage place with 20% votes. Croma Vijay sales were last with 10% votes. Sony had a lot of stock this time, it is confirmed by the fact that despite re-sellers scoring a good number of units for themselves as revealed via an unofficial reseller group, a lot of retail buyers were also able to secure one for themselves.

Chip shortage or not, the PS5 restock situation is improving dramatically. The Xbox Series X restock situation is objectively bad. The Xbox brand has no official presence on Twitter hence users get no official announcement. Xbox Series X stock usually drops in limited quantities and on random days, which some fans see as a disheartened effort from Microsoft to appeal to the Indian gamer. The PlayStation brand has always had a strong presence in India and with the way this console generation seems to be progressing, things are likely to remain the same.
