TikTok Vying For India Comeback, ByteDance In Talks With Hiranandani Group: Report

TikTok, one of the most popular short video apps across the world is looking to make a comeback in India, almost 2 years after the Indian government banned it along with 59 other apps. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) initiated a crackdown on apps with connections to the Chinese government. At the time of the ban, TikTok was on a rising tide with over 2 billion downloaded globally and India was one of its biggest markets with over 611 million downloads.

As per a report in The Economic Times accessed by Inc42, ByteDance is in talks with leading real estate developer, Hiranandani Group to relaunch TikTok in India. The Hiranandani Group has a diverse portfolio but ByteDance is specifically looking to ink a partnership with Yotta Infrastructure, a subsidiary which runs the world’s second-largest data centre, the Yotta NM1 in Mumbai.

With this collaboration, ByteDance will be able to store the data of users locally in India itself, thereby complying with the government regulations. A major ask by the Indian government to companies is that the Indian user's data should be stored locally and if ByteDance is successful in partnering with Yotta Infrastructure, it will have a chance at re-entering India.

Is TikTok making an Indian comeback?

“There have been no formal talks with us yet. But, we have been informed of the plans. As and when they come to us for approvals, we will examine their request,” a senior government official told ET.

Another official in the know-how of things said, “Critical user data should not be stored outside India. All apps and websites have either made provisions to store data locally or are making necessary changes to their data storage and processing policies. If they come back, they will have to follow these norms."

It remains to be seen if and when TikTok is able to make its much-awaited comeback but it's going to be an arduous path especially now when homegrown apps like Josh, Moj, Roposo, MX Takatak have captured most of the existing audience to fill the void. Then there are Instagram Reels which has catapulted the short video format to new heights in India.

Airtel Prepaid Customers Are Getting Free 1GB Data: Know The Details

It’s time for select Airtel users to be happy as they may get surprised by a free offer of 1GB data. Yes, this offer as reported by OnlyTech claims that 1GB of data is being given to the users at no cost. Let’s see the details.

Airtel Free Data Offer: Which customers are getting it?

Airtel free 1GB data

As per OnlyTech, the new Airtel offer is received by users of the company’s Rs. 48 and Rs. 49 plans. But not all the users are getting it. Rather, the surprise offer is offered to the customers randomly. Or so it seems. Even if there’s any mechanism, then that’s not clear at the moment.

By default, the ₹48 and ₹49 plans come with 3GB and 100MB of data. This 1GB benefit would be over and top of that.

Airtel 1GB free data

Now, note that the extra 1GB data will be applicable only whence you redeem a coupon from the Coupons section within the Airtel app. So, make sure you do that.

WhatsApp Messages Could Get An Edit Option Soon: How It Could Work

WhatsApp messages could soon get an edit option. According to WABetaInfo, the Meta-subbrand is reportedly working on this new WhatsApp feature that allows you to correct a mistake you made on a sent message. This could come in handy if you accidentally made a mistake. It could be a silly typo or any factual incorrectness. It is fine and could happen to anyone. But, the good news is now you have this edit feature.

Here’s how it works —

How WhatsApp Editing Option Could Work

WhatsApp edit

1. Long press on the message you want to correct.

2. Tap on the Edit button from the 3-dot menu.

3. Now, make the changes that need to be made.

Now the leak doesn’t reveal if you have to do the necessary changes within a time window.

WhatsApp Edit option

Apparently, WhatsApp has been planning to bring the edit option for quite a while now, dating as back as 2017. The hints of an edit feature popped up first in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.17.26, although the same didn’t cross over to the stable release.

This time things could be different. Only recently, Twitter got an edit option and WhatsApp’s rival Telegram has had an editing facility for a very long time. Let’s see if the WhatsApp edit feature sees daylight anytime soon.

Twitter Circle Now Available For All: Here Is How To Use It

Twitter is a popular microblogging website but has long suffered from the lack of an engaging community aspect. So, it is mostly people posting their thoughts in 280 characters to the larger universe and it may receive hearts, hate comments, or be downright ignored based on the quality of what you post and how popular you are on the platform. This also means the posts stand exposed to a broader audience with different tastes and preferences than you. But now you can limit the radius to just the people you like or who share similar interests and opinions. Enter Twitter Circle, a new feature on the bluebird app.

Twitter Circle: Here’s how it works

Twitter Circle

Twitter Circle is being released widely but it may take time before you get the feature. When it is available on your end, you will see a prompt asking if you want to share with a small crowd. Twitter Circle allows you to send Tweets to only the people you pick. You can choose up to 150 people and they can be out of your follower list too.

When you send the invite, the other person will be notified. These people in your Twitter Circle cannot retweet, quote tweet or share your posts but can screengrab and save the thing.

Finally, here is how you can add people to your Twitter Circle:

Twitter Circle

Open the Twitter app and then tap on the Plus icon to compose a Tweet. Type the tweet and add the required images and other details.  Above the tweet, you’ll see an ‘Everyone’ drop-down option. Click on it and select the Twitter Circle option. You can edit the Twitter Circle members from here.

Twitter Circle

Once that’s selected, you will see a tiny text intimation saying, “Only your Twitter Circle can view and reply”. You also get to edit the list of Twitter Circle members after the Tweet is live.

That’s about it. So, have a fun and wholesome interaction with your close friends on Twitter.
