Google Announce Ads On YouTube Shorts A Year After Experimentation

Google has announced updates across ads and commerce at the India edition of the Google Marketing Live event. With the introduction of ads in YouTube shorts, Google believes that the increased video watch time and growth in online shopping can be the leeway for advertisers to connect their product feed to their campaign to make the video ads more shoppable on YouTube Shorts.

Google said in a press release about the increase in consumption of Shorts, “Video action campaigns and App campaigns will automatically scale to YouTube Shorts. YouTube Shorts now averages over 30 billion daily views — four times as many as a year ago — and Google wants to help marketers reach people immersed in this short-form content,”

Google has been experimenting with ads since 2021 and is finally rolling them out this year.  Shoppable video ads are already present on Tik Tok, one of the competitors to YouTube Shorts, where users can view the product without leaving the app. The introduction of ads will also be an important step in developing long-term YouTube Shorts monetization for creators.

Google Updates

Updates to Performance Max Tool and more

Google also announced updates for Performance Max, which is a tool for meeting customers when they are on Google channels. With six new updates to be rolled out, Performance Max is undergoing some major changes. Google claims that advertisers who use performance max see a 13% increase in incremental revenue. It has also improved campaign management capabilities in Search Ads 360 and the Google Ads mobile app.

Android 13 Beta 3 Almost There

After announcing Android 13 earlier this year, Google is just a few steps away from the final release of the latest version of its official system, as the Android 13 beta 3 was rolled out on Wednesday. This release comes a month after the last beta release and is the second last beta release before the final rollout.   With the 13th iteration of its Android mobile OS, Google has promised a host of new features and upgrades. With this version of the OS, the users can now use themed icons on their devices, and the OS is also slated to bring better support for multilingual users. These come along with other developments which would improve the overall experience of Android users, such as Bluetooth LE Audio and MIDI 2.0 over USB.

Android 13 – Closer than ever

This is the closest Android 13 has gotten to its final form before it is released to supported Pixel phones, followed by other Android devices. In their blog post, Google also seconded this and wrote about the transition into the final polishing phase. The statement read, “Today we’re releasing the third Beta of Android 13, taking us into the final phase of our cycle where we’re focusing on polish and performance. With Android 13, we’ve built on our core themes of privacy and security, developer productivity, and tablet and large screen support.”

The next beta update, which will be the only stop between this version and the final release of Android 13, is set to come in July. Between beta 3 and beta 4, Google is expected to work on refining the operating system's functionalities, weeding out any bugs that might trouble users. As per Google, the final version will be out in August. So, the clocking is ticking for Google’s development team. It will be interesting to see what Android 13 brings in its final form. iPhone 14, Pro Max Could Get Support For Always-On-Display, Hints iOS 16 Code

There have been reports in the past that Apple will be bringing always-on displays to its upcoming iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max phones. And now, there appears to be growing evidence to back up such reports. According to reports, iOS 16's code has evidence for always-on display capability, which could be limited to the rumoured iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max phones.

While Apple did not mention anything about Always-On-Displays at WWDC where it announced iOS 16, speculation is rife that the feature will find a place on next year's flagship Apple phones and will work as it does on the recent Apple Watch models. This new feature is expected to tie in with some big changes coming to the operating system, including a completely redesigned Lock Screen. With iOS 16, users can now customize their iPhone’s Lock Screen with different widgets, fonts, dynamic wallpapers, and more.

Always-On Display coming on iOS 16?

According to reports, the first developer beta for iOS 16 hides multiple references that confirm the OS includes support for an always-on display. These include frameworks that have been added that relate to the backlight management of the iPhone’s display. Backlight management is a key aspect of enabling an always-on feature. Additionally, these frameworks include references to an always-on display capability. Further, there are also multiple references to an always-on display within the Springboard of the OS.

And that's not all. There are also hidden flags within iOS 16 that Apple engineers can use to enable always-on capabilities even on unsupported devices. This is very interesting, as it could mean Apple is already testing this feature internally on the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max ahead of the feature coming to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max officially later this year.

Google Chrome OS and Mozilla Firefox Users Alerted By The Indian Government

The Indian Government, after issuing a security warning to Apple users, has now put out two security alerts, highlighting “multiple security vulnerabilities” in Mozilla Products and Google Chrome OS. The CERT-In issued these warnings, an organisation operating under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.   Apple devices were affected by an exploit targeting the Safari browser, using which the attacker could direct the users to “maliciously crafted web content”. However, in both these recent cases, the vulnerabilities take a different form.

Google Chrome OS – Update now!

CERT-In is the security alert regarding Mozilla Firefox browsers released on June 6 remarked, “Multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in Mozilla products which could allow a remote hacker to disclose sensitive information, bypass security restrictions, execute arbitrary code, perform spoofing attacks and cause denial of service (DoS) attack on the targeted system.”

Updates were released as soon as the issue was detected   Things are not much different for Chrome OS users. In the release about the OS, it was stated that the exploitation of the vulnerabilities found could allow the attacker to execute arbitrary code on the targeted system. This means that the users of the older versions of either of these pieces of software are exposed to significant risks.   As stated in the official release by CERT, the affected versions of both Mozilla and Chrome OS are as follows:   Mozilla Firefox:   -    Mozilla Firefox iOS version prior to 101, -    Mozilla Firefox Thunderbird version prior to 91.10, -    Mozilla Firefox ESR version prior to 91.10, and -    Mozilla Firefox version prior to 101   Google Chrome OS:   -    Google Chrome versions prior to 96.0.4664.209   Both Google and Mozilla got on top of this issue really quickly, as they have released software updates. All the users running the same or older versions of either Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome OS have been asked to download and install these updates as soon as possible to prevent loss or damage of any kind.
