Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 and W5 Plus Gen 1 SoC Announced For Wearables
Qualcomm has unveiled the next-gen chips for wearables called W5 Gen 1 and W5+ Gen 1. The rebranding aside, the new W5 series of chipsets also boasts significant performance and efficiency gains. On paper, the claimed improvements are 2x in performance and power efficiency. Let’s see how else they are an upgrade over the predecessors.

— Snapdragon (@Snapdragon) July 19, 2022 Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 and W5 Plus Gen 1 SoC Specs And FeaturesThe new setup consists of up of 4x Cortex A53 cores plus 1x Cortex M55 efficiency core at 250MHz. This is coupled with LPDDR4 RAM at 2133 MHz and a U55 ML core.
Qualcomm is able to achieve faster performance and power-saving results thanks to a 4nm manufacturing node, 22nm AON co-processor, 30% smaller packaging, ultra-low power Bluetooth 5.3, low power islands for WiFi, GNSS, and audio, as well as low-power states such as Deep Sleep and Hibernate.
The company notes that these chipsets are designed for consumers and enterprises and it has partnered with companies dealing in components like sensors, audio, camera, payments, software, etc.
There are apparently 25 different designs of the new W5 series of wearable platforms for various vendors. Leading brands like Oppo and Mobvoi are onboard. Oppo Watch 3 is set to debut with W5 while one of the Mobvoi’s Ticwatch this fall will feature the first W5+ chip.

Oppo Reno 8 and Oppo Reno 8 Pro have officially launched in India. The successors to the Reno 7 series bring 50MP triple cameras, high refresh rate AMOLED display, 32MP selfie cameras, 80W fast charging support and runs on Android 12 out of the box. Alongside the Reno 8 series, Oppo also launched the Oppo Pad Air budget tablet and the Oppo Enco X2 truly wireless noise cancelling headphones. Oppo Reno 8, Reno 8 Pro price and availabilityThe Reno 8 Pro is priced at Rs 45,999 and will be available to purchase from July 19 in India across Amazon India, Oppo India website and in major offline stores.
Meanwhile, the Reno 8 is priced at Rs 29,999 and will go on sale from July 25 in India.

Oppo Reno 8 Pro specificationsThe Oppo Reno 8 Pro has an aluminium frame that measures 7.3mm and weighs 183 grams. It features a 6.7-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The Reno 8 Pro is available in two colours: Glazed Green and Glazed Black colours.
The Reno 8 Pro is powered by the Dimensity 8100-Max with an octa-core CPU and is paired with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. It also runs on ColorOS 12 which is based on Android 12.

FaceRD App For Aadhaar Identification Now Available On Google Play Store
It looks like you will now be able to confirm your identity through the wonders of face recognition. This applies to Aadhaar card holders and is avail through an app called FaceRD. The app is currently available on the Google Play Store and has been launched by the Unique Identification Authority of India. The technology that enables this function also allows users to be identified on various other Aadhar Authentication apps. These include the CoWin Vaccination Application, Farmer Welfare Schemes, and many others.
