Apple may ship iPhone 14 simultaneously from India, China factories

New Delhi, Aug 5 (IANS) Tech giant Apple is likely planning to ship its next-generation iPhone 14 simultaneously from factories in China and India, a prominent analyst said on Friday.

On the microblogging site Twitter, Ming-Chi Kuo said his latest survey indicates Foxconn's iPhone production site in India will ship the new 6.1-inch iPhone 14 almost simultaneously with China for the first time in the second half of 2022 (India being one quarter or more behind in the past).

"In the short term, India's iPhone capacities/shipments still have a considerable gap with China, but it is an important milestone for Apple in building a non-Chinese iPhone production site," Kuo wrote on Twitter.

"It implies that Apple is trying to reduce the geopolitical impacts on supply and sees the Indian market as the next key growth driver," he added.

Recently, a report said that the tech giant sold over 1.2 million iPhones in India in the second quarter of this year, registering a massive 94 per cent growth (year-on-year).

Nearly 1 million of the total shipped iPhones were 'Make in India' devices.

Meanwhile, Apple iPads logged an impressive 34 per cent growth (on-year) in India and the company sold over 0.2 million devices in the country.

The iPhone 14 lineup includes the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Max, and the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max, which is the top of the pick. The tech giant has likely discontinued the 5.4-inch iPhone mini this year.

Twitter expands Location Spotlight tool to all businesses globally

Twitter has made a new feature available for all businesses globally to display their location address, hours of operation and additional contact details on their profiles on the platform.

Earlier, the 'Location Spotlight' feature was available to users in the US, the UK, Canada and Australia.

In addition, Twitter is also offering a new monthly live series called "Taking Care of Business" to help budding entrepreneurs on its platform.

"We are proud of the foundation we've laid with the initial suite of products we've unveiled to date and we're excited to continue introducing new ways to help professionals achieve business success on Twitter," it said in a statement.

The 'Location Spotlight' feature allows professional accounts of brick-and-mortar stores to display details on their profiles.

Users can see the new information when they visit a business' profile.

Tapping on the location will get directions to the shop through a mapping app like Google Maps.

Professional Accounts allow businesses, brands, creators, and publishers to "have a unique and clearly defined presence on the platform and the ability to grow and strengthen their presence on Twitter".

The businesses can also customise the feature to showcase the days and times they want people to visit their location.

YouTube may soon let users Zoom in on Videos

San Francisco, Aug 5 (IANS) Google-owned streaming platform YouTube is testing a new feature in its mobile app with its premium subscribers that allows them to zoom in on any video.

The latest opt-in experimental feature enables a pinch-to-zoom gesture for videos -- and it works both in portrait and full-screen landscape view, reports The Verge.

According to the company, the zoom feature will remain in testing until September 1, giving YouTube about a month to gather user feedback and refine things before potentially rolling it out more widely.

To enable pinch to zoom, open YouTube's settings menu either on your phone or from the website. If you are subscribed to YouTube Premium, there should be a "try new features" section.

Recently, the platform announced that users can now turn their longer videos into Shorts by adding a new "Edit into a Short" tool to its iOS and Android app.

With this new update, which is now rolling out across iOS and Android devices, users can now convert up to 60 seconds from their own existing long-form YouTube videos and turn them into Shorts.

YouTube Shorts is now being watched by over 1.5 billion signed-in users every month with more than 30 billion daily views.

ISRO gearing up for lift-off of Small Satellite Launch Vehicle on 7 August

Chennai, Aug 4 (IANS) India's newest rocket, the 34 metre tall and weighing 120 ton Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) will lift off from the first launch pad at the Sriharikota rocket port on August 7 at 9.18 a.m. on its maiden flight, said Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Thursday.

The three staged SSLV-Developmental 1 (SSLV-D1) is primarily powered by solid fuel (total 99.2 ton) and also has a velocity trimming module (VTM) powered by 0.05 ton of liquid fuel for precise injection of satellites.

The rocket with a maximum luggage carrying capacity of 500 kg will be carrying an earth observation satellite-02 (EOS-02) formerly known as Microsatellite-2A weighing about 145 kg.

Just over 12 minutes into its flight, the SSLV-D1 will put into orbit the EOS-2 satellite.

Prior to that, the rocket will coast - moving because of the momentum and not powered by its engines - twice for about four minutes.

The piggyback luggage will be the eight kg AZAADISAT built by 750 students of government schools facilitated by SpaceKidz India.

According to ISRO, the SSLV is a ready to transfer rocket with modular and unified systems with standard interfaces for production by the industry.

The SSLV design drivers are low cost, low turnaround time, flexibility in accommodating multiple satellites, launch-on-demand feasibility, minimal launch infrastructure requirements and others, ISRO said.

The commercial arm of ISRO, NewSpace India Ltd plans to transfer the SSLV technology for production in the private sector.

The Indian space agency said the EOS-02 satellite is an experimental optical imaging satellite with high spatial resolution. The objective is to realise and fly an experimental imaging satellite with short turnaround time and showcase launch on demand capability.

According to ISRO, the new technologies realised for the microsat series of spacecrafts include payloads with a common fore optics and metallic primary mirror realised with the limited mass and volume of Microsat Bus.

With the new included in its product lineup, ISRO will have three rockets - Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle and SSLV.
