New entry-level iPad, M2 iPad Pro may arrive in October

San Francisco, Aug 16 (IANS) Tech giant Apple is likely to launch a new entry-level iPad with a larger screen along with an iPad Pro refresh, upgrading the chip from M1 to the M2.

A leaker claimed that the 10th-generation iPad and the iPad Pro will see some changes during the period, reports AppleInsider.

In a Naver post by a leaker account, a source from China claimed that an October event could occur and play host to iPad changes.

While it may not necessarily be an October event, the leaker said it would be at an additional event held after the launch of the iPhone 14.

The new 10th-generation iPad is claimed in the leak to have a thinner new design with a more square shape and a flat bezel, unifying the design aesthetic across the entire iPad range.

It is also said to have a more prominent display than the existing 10.2-inch screen, but without mentioning the exact size.

The model will also allegedly sport an A14 Bionic chip, support 5G, gain a protruding rear camera bump, and lose the 3.5mm headphone jack.

At the same time as updating the entry-level iPad, Apple will also reportedly upgrade the iPad Pro. However, the leaker merely says the chip will be updated from M1 to M2 in the premium tablet line.

Apple may inject more ads into iPhones as part of its advertising ambitions: Gurman

Introduced last year, App Tracking Transparency is a privacy feature of iOS that makes developers ask permission from users for cross-app tracking. This has been vehemently opposed by big tech giants like Meta and small app developers for it prevents them from gathering user data that they would otherwise use for pushing relevant ads. This privacy rule conveniently whitelists built-in Apple apps as apparently, they don’t do cross-app tracking. However, the real irony is that Apple itself is reportedly going to sink its teeth into the ad business. The report comes from Mark Gurman of Bloomberg.

Ads on iPhones are A-okay, as long as it's from Apple

App Tracking Transparency

Gurman says iOS apps like Maps, Books, and Podcasts could start showing ads in the future. Here’s how he thinks they would transpire:

In Maps, when you search for restaurants, stores, or other nearby businesses, Apple could show ads for popular or recommended spots. In both Books and Podcasts, publishers could potentially place ads in different vacant spaces within both apps. Publishers could also pay to rank their content higher in the search results.  Although the search result page of the App Store already shows ads, soon even the Today tab and app download pages could display ads. The latter may be presented as a “You Might Also Like” section.

App Tracking Transparency

All these seem to be the sign of the times when Apple is looking to focus more on its Services business which includes streaming and advertising. Let’s see how it all pans out.

PM Modi wants India to have energy independence and self-reliance in its EV sector

In another thrust to his electric vehicle (EV) dream, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that the country needs to be 'Aatmanirbhar' (self-reliant) in its energy sector. Addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the 75th Independence Day, Modi said that from solar energy and bio fuels to adoption to electric vehicles (EVs), the country needs to "reach the next level for energy independence". Modi's push for EVs came as the electric two-wheeler industry is facing scrutiny over battery explosions and fire incidents that has led to several government probes. In a recent webinar on 'Make in India for the World', the prime minister asked the industry to tap growing opportunities in areas like semiconductors and EVs. "Aatmanirbharta is all the more important if we see from the prism of national security. The private sector needs to be more 'vocal for local'," he emphasised, asking the industry to boost domestic manufacturing in the EV sector. In his recent meeting with Suzuki Motor Corporation's senior advisor Osamu Suzuki in Tokyo, Modi discussed investment opportunities in India, including setting up production facilities for electric vehicles and batteries. The prime minister has emphasised that by 2030, India's economy would cut the intensity of greenhouse gas emission by 45 per cent of what it was in 2005. NITI Aayog has forecast that by 2030, nearly 80 per cent of the two- and three-wheelers, 40 per cent of buses and 30-70 per cent of the cars will run on electricity. India's transition to the electric mobility system can save Rs 20 lakh crore by 2030 on oil imports alone.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that the country's wait for the 5G technology is over and the benefits of 'Digital India' will reach every village soon. Addressing the nation from the Red Fort on the 75th Independence Day, Modi said that India's 'Techade' is here with 5G and local thrust on semiconductor and mobile phone manufacturing. "We are bringing revolution through 'Digital India' to the grassroots levels and soon, every village will be connected digitally as we usher in the 5G era," Modi said during his speech from the ramparts of the Red Fort. The Prime Minister is likely to officially launch the 5G network during the India Mobile Congress (IMC) on September 29. "From digital payments to mobile and semiconductor manufacturing, we are in a time of change that happens in an era. The digital age is changing around us.
