Reddit will have better bots to help users, thanks to new developer platform

Social discussion forum Reddit has announced that it is opening up a waitlist for its developer platform, a suite of developer tools and resources, that will empower developers whose contributions will support users and over 100,000 active communities on the platform. Currently, third-party developers on Reddit operate primarily as siloed resources for the communities they care about, utilizing limited resources and ad-hoc support. "The Reddit Developer Platform will change all this. The platform will serve as an avenue for third-party developers to build meaningful Reddit extensions that our users will love," the company said in a blogpost. The Developer Platform team is focused on creating offerings that improve support, flexibility, and performance for our third-party developers. The platform said it is excited to work with its community to build apps that improve the Reddit experience and ensure those extensions are discoverable and trustworthy. "As we continue to grow and scale Reddit, we want to provide and maintain alignment with those who are building tools around Reddit's guiding principles and broader values," the company said. "With the initial rollout of our developer platform, we can provide an easy way for all to find resources and tools, participate in our beta, and get the best answers to their questions, quickly," it added.

Samsung clocks record 50K pre-bookings for Galaxy Z Fold4 and ZFlip4 in India

Samsung has witnessed a robust demand for its fourth-generation of foldables in India, registering more than 50,000 pre-bookings for Galaxy Fold4 and Galaxy Flip4, Raju Pullan, Senior Vice President and Head of MX sales at Samsung India, said on Wednesday. The record pre-bookings came in less than 12 hours on Day 1 on August 16. "Samsung is targeting to sell 1.5 times more foldable phones this year. We are confident of meeting our target because the new foldable phones come with huge upgrades as compared to last year," Pullan told IANS. He attributed the huge pre-book success to the company's strategy to expand the foldable experience in India this time. For Fold4 and Flip4, Samsung has expanded its retail network, taking the premium phones to over 10,000 cities, including tier 2 towns and further. This is double the number of retail outlets as compared to last year for the foldable phones, according to Pullan. Samsung has also employed more than 12,000 demo units of Fold4 and Flip4 in India to ensure that consumers get great experience with these devices before finalizing their purchase. "The Fold4 is the most powerful PC in your pocket with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 processor and flagship 50MP camera. The Flip4 is the ultimate device for young consumers who are looking to express themselves with its Flex camera," Pullan noted. Samsung led the broader smartphone market with 22 per cent value market share in the first six months of the year. Available in Bora Purple, Graphite and Pink Gold colours, Galaxy Z Flip4 is priced at Rs 89,999 for the 8GB+128GB variant and Rs 94,999 for the 8GB+256GB variant. The 'Bespoke Edition' that offers glass colours and frame options will be available on Samsung Live and Samsung Exclusive Stores for Rs 97,999, the company said in a statement. Available in Graygreen, Beige and Phantom Black colours, Galaxy Z Fold4 is priced at Rs 154,999 for the 12GB+256GB variant and Rs 164,999 for the 12GB+512GB variant. Consumers can also purchase 12GB+1TB variant exclusively on Samsung Live and Samsung Exclusive Stores for Rs 184,999.

Elon Musk tweeted about buying Manchester United, believe it or not

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk on Wednesday announced on Twitter that he is buying British football club Manchester United.

Musk, however, did not disclose the sum he is paying for acquiring the legendary football team.

The club has a latest market cap of nearly $2.08 billion.

"I'm buying Manchester United ur welcome," Musk posted in a tweet.

However, it was not immediately clear if Musk was just having fun or was serious about the acquisition.

The American Glazer family owns the club, who purchased it for around 790 million pounds in 2005.

The announcement came as he was engaged in a political tweet thread.

"To be clear, I support the left half of the Republican Party and the right half of the Democratic Party!" he posted, before the US midterm elections in November.

Musk supporters have asked him to buy Manchester United rather than Twitter in the past.

Manchester United Football Club, commonly referred to as Man United, or simply United, is based in the Old Trafford area of Greater Manchester, England.

The club competes in the Premier League, the top division in the English football league system.

Nicknamed the Red Devils, it was founded as Newton Heath LYR Football Club in 1878, but changed its name to Manchester United in 1902. The club moved from Newton Heath to its current stadium, Old Trafford, in 1910.

Manchester United have won a record 20 League titles, 12 FA Cups, five League Cups and a record 21 FA Community Shields.

It is one of the most widely supported football clubs in the world and has rivalries with Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Leeds United.

DigitalOcean users emails allegedly leaked in a recent Mailchimp hack

Cloud infrastructure provider DigitalOcean has admitted that some of its customers' personal information was exposed in a recent security incident disclosed by email marketing company Mailchimp. DigitalOcean's head of security Tyler Healy said in a blog post on Tuesday that On August 8, the company discovered that its Mailchimp account had been compromised as part of what "we suspect to be a wider Mailchimp security incident that affected their customers, targeted at crypto and blockchain". Mailchimp had earlier admitted a recent attack targeting its crypto-related users, but did not divulge more details. From that Mailchimp incident, we suspect certain DigitalOcean customer email addresses may have been exposed. Out of an abundance of caution, we are currently sending email communications to those impacted. DigitalOcean said that a "very small number of DigitalOcean customers experienced attempted compromise of their accounts through password resets". "These customers' accounts have been secured, and have been contacted directly. As of August 9th, we have migrated email services away from Mailchimp," the company informed. It said that no customer information other than email address was compromised. "However, we recommend increased vigilance against phishing attempts in the coming weeks, in addition to enabling two-factor authentication on your DigitalOcean account," the company advised. Mailchimp said that they were continuing their investigation and proactively providing impacted users with timely and accurate information throughout the process. DigitalOcean said that the broader email outage incident management team decided to immediately migrate critical services away from Mailchimp to another email service provider.
