Disney+ Hotstar India announces release date of Game of Thrones spinoff, House of the Dragon

The Indian premiere of House of the Dragon, a prequel to the massively popular Game of Thrones, will take place this weekend. Disney+ and Hotstar, two online video services, will simultaneously air the show's debut at the same time it airs in the United States.

Beginning on Monday, August 22 at 6:30 am IST (Indian Standard Time), you can watch new episodes online. The first season is set to consist of 10 episodes, all of which will be based on George RR Martin's book Fire and Blood. The series will tell the tale of the Targaryen Civil War, which occurred 300 years before the events of "Game of Thrones."

In the novel Fire and Blood, the Targaryen dynasty struggles to choose who will succeed on the Iron Throne. The series has several parallels to the original Game of Thrones, what with the protagonists' lust for power and the subsequent struggle for the throne.

As much as Game of Thrones focused on the Targaryen dynasty and the rivalry between the Houses Stark and Lannister, House of the Dragon focuses on a single family and their struggle to determine who will succeed to the throne.

There will be some very spectacular dragon fights in this show. Since word of the show's imminent premiere spread, fans have been counting down the days. To those who have been patiently waiting for a new season of Game of Thrones since the series' official cancellation in 2019, this may come as a pleasant surprise. Fans can put their faith in this prequel series to compensate for their disappointment with the last few seasons of Game of Thrones.

Intels 13th generation desktop CPU range seems to have been leaked

As Intel gets ready to release its 13th-generation (Raptor Lake) desktop CPUs, a new leak seems to have revealed most of the lineup before the official announcement. According to a picture posted on the social network Billi Billi, the processors will have up to 24 cores and 36MB of cache, and most of the models will be better than the ones before.

Both the 65W and 125W TDP S-series and K-series processors have been shown off. As usual, the line goes up to the Intel Core i9, which will have 24 cores: 8 performance (P) cores and 16 efficient (E) cores. We know from Intel's investor meeting earlier this year that we're looking at 32 threads since the E cores don't support hyperthreading. In addition to having more cores, these processors have 36MB of cache instead of 30MB like the Intel Core i9-12900 models.

Also, the rest of the lineup gets an improvement. Intel Core i7 processors from the 13th generation will have 16 cores (8P + 8E). This is up from the 12 cores (8P + 4E) in the 12th generation. Most Core i5 models also seem to have 14 cores (6P + 8E), while in the 12th generation, the K series has 10 cores (6P + 4E) and the S-series only has 6. (all P cores). The Core i5-13400 is different because it has 6 P cores and 4 E cores. The Core i3 processor is the only one that hasn't changed in terms of the number of cores or the cache. It still has four P-cores and nothing else. The table doesn't show the boost clock speeds for each model, which is a shame.

This really only tells part of the story because the architecture of the cores will be changed to make them faster and (hopefully) more efficient. So far, all Intel has said is that we can expect performance gains of up to 10 per cent, but we don't have exact numbers yet. Last year, 12th-generation processors were announced in October, but details about the architecture came out a little earlier, so hopefully, we won't have to wait too long.

Mark Zuckerberg releases his new digital avatar after hilarious memes

New Delhi, Aug 20 (IANS) After facing memes on his poorly-designed metaverse avatar, Meta Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has posted new screenshots on Facebook and Instagram, showing off a more life-like version of himself.

Earlier this week, Zuckerberg posted a screenshot of his digital avatar standing in front of the Eiffel Tower, as the company expanded its Horizon World's metaverse experience to more countries in Europe.

However, the social media world did not like his pretty basic image, and bombarded him with memes.

Zuckerberg said on Friday that major updates to Horizon and avatar graphics are coming soon.

"I know the photo I posted earlier this week was pretty basic -- it was taken very quickly to celebrate a launch. The graphics in Horizon are capable of much more -- even on headsets -- and Horizon is improving very quickly," he said.

While one Twitter user had described his digital avatar "on par with the Teletubbies game for the Sony PlayStation One", another said that in the the Fortnite game, "you can be goku with a shotgun".

Zuckerberg earlier said that he looks forward to "seeing people explore and build immersive worlds, and to bringing this to more countries soon".

"We want everyone to have control over their experience in Horizon Worlds, so we're always working to add more tools and features that let people customise their own experiences," Meta said in a blog post.

Recently, Meta announced a new setting known as Voice Mode in Horizon Worlds that gives users more control over their experience.

With an aim to make it more user-friendly, tech giant Meta has also introduced a new content rating system for "mature audiences".

Twitter to put a label on phone numbers of verified user profiles

New Delhi, Aug 20 (IANS) Twitter is working on a new feature to put a label or tag on the phone numbers of verified user profiles, apart from the blue tick or badge the company places with the verified accounts.

App researcher Jane Manchun Wong discovered this new feature that is aimed at bringing more authenticity and much-needed credibility to the platform.

This comes at a time when Tesla CEO Elon Musk has taken Twitter to court over the alleged unaccounted presence of bots on its platform after cancelling the $44 billion takeover deal.

"Twitter is working on verified phone number label on profile," she posted on Saturday.

"I'm guessing it's related to civic integrity, so visible to everyone?" She added.

The new tool can also be useful for verified businesses with customer service.

The company will also provide an opt-out option for those who do not this tag on their mobile numbers.

The "blue tick" accounts already required you to have a verified phone number or email address attached.

The new feature will link phone numbers to users' accounts and display the status with a verified tag.

Wong also said that Twitter is working on showing 'Tweet view count'.

"It's unsure whether it will be visible to the author only or everyone," she said.

Twitter will also soon let users know if an embedded tweet has been edited, or whether there is a new version of the tweet.

Wong earlier discovered that Twitter is working on a new feature that may be part of its broad upcoming Edit tool.

TN Industrial Development Corporation to set up testing labs for drones in Kancheepuram

Chennai, Aug 19 (IANS) Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) will be setting up an integrated testing complex for drones and strategic electronics at Vallam Vadagal in Kancheepuram district of the state.

The testing complex, according to officials with the TIDCO will comprise greenfield testing infrastructure including electromagnetic compatibility or Electromagnetic interference testing (EMC/EMI).

It is to be noted that Tamil Nadu has a large number of electronic manufacturing and design-focused industries and this provides the state leverage and high potential for EMI and EMC testing.

According to TIDCO officials, the testing infrastructure to come up at Kancheepuram will attract investment and funding from global and domestic aerospace and defence original equipment manufacturers.

The Indian defence forces are slated to purchase unmanned aerial vehicle worth USD 3 billion in the next ten years from domestic makers. A study has revealed that the testing industry in India which is now pegged at an estimate of Rs 130 crore to Rs 170 crore will be touching upto Rs 220 crore by 2030. This is mainly owing to the increasing dependence of domestic manufacturers by that time. The study also finds that the total market size of the electronic warfare systems in India is expected to be anywhere between Rs 600 to Rs 700 crores by 2030.

At present, there are no dedicated testing facilities available in public or private domain for MSMEs and other industrial players in the country. The testing requirements for EMI and EMC are complex and specific and this makes the new centre more important and necessary for the defence industry.

The EMC and EMI tests assure that the device does not interfere with the operation of other equipment and the tests provide improved and heightened reliability and credibility for anyone using electronic and electrical equipment.
