Western Digital unveils industry leading 22TB hard drive in India

New Delhi, Sep 6 (IANS) Storage solutions major Western Digital (WD) on Tuesday announced that it is shipping its new, industry-leading 22TB conventional magnetic recording (CMR) hard disk drives (HDDs) that are designed for optimal power over a variety of workloads in India.

The company said that the new Ultrastar DC HC570 HDD is rightly timed for the Indian market as the country is witnessing massive data growth and, therefore, data center expansion.

"We are excited to introduce the world's first 22TB CMR HDD in India. We are constantly working to help address the capacity demands of the industry, as well as support the evolving economics of data centers for decades to come," Khalid Wani, Senior Director, Sales, India, Western Digital, said in a statement.

Leveraging its unique OptiNAND, energy-assisted PMR (ePMR), ArmorCache and HelioSeal technologies, the company further expands its technology and areal density leadership, while delivering enhanced value by driving a lower total cost of ownership (TCO) for cloud service providers and enterprise customers.

"Our newly introduced 22TB drives will help our customers to efficiently store and access huge volumes of data while offering cost efficiencies and low TCO at scale," said Jaganathan Chelliah, Senior Director, Marketing, India, Middle East and TIA, Western Digital.

With the recently concluded 5G spectrum auction, India expects the rollout of 5G services, which will further amplify data and cloud usage to create huge demand for high-capacity drives to reduce TCO, the company said.

Wipro GE Healthcare launches its first Made in India AI enabled Cath lab

Bengaluru, Sep 6 (IANS) AGE Healthcare, a leading global medical technology, diagnostics and digital solutions innovator, GE Healthcare on Tuesday announced the launch of its first 'Made in India', 'AI-powered' Cath lab - Optima IGS 320.

Built at Wipro GE Healthcare's new factory launched under the PLI (production linked incentive) scheme in Bengaluru, the Optima IGS 320, is the first neural network-based interventional image chain, a company release stated.

Dr Shravan Subramanyam, Managing Director, Wipro GE Healthcare said: "Our mission is to move from health care to healthy ageing and that can be accomplished with predictive, preventative, personalised medicine. The rising complexity of patient profiles and shifting disease patterns is making the need of personalized care even more vital and Artificial Intelligence solutions have the potential to transform the patient care pathway.

"With our 'Made in India' AI-enabled Cath lab, we aim to drive intelligent imaging to support cardiologists and patients with customised treatment protocols and therapies and enable access to quality healthcare across all of India."

The new generation of interventional imaging software in Optima IGS 320 enables clinical versatility to guide sophisticated non-invasive procedures with greater precision. Automating the typically complex process with AutoRight helps reduce the burden on interventionalists and may increase their attention on the procedure, the company stated.

Srikanth Suryanarayanan, Head - Imaging, GE Healthcare South Asia said: "This 'industry-first' Cath lab has a new generation of interventional imaging software that enables clinical versatility to guide sophisticated, non-invasive procedures with greater precision and reduced risk. Our aim is to reduce the burden on interventionalists, increasing their attention on procedures, so that they can utilize every second to bring their clinical expertise to treating patients."

Earlier this year, Wipro GE Healthcare launched its next-generation Revolution Aspire CT (Computed Tomography) scanner - the first product that was designed and manufactured end-to-end in India, at the newly launched Wipro GE Healthcare Medical Devices Manufacturing plant. Optima IGS320 is the second product being launched at the new factory.

iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max likely to feature enhanced A15 chipset

San Francisco, Sep 6 (IANS) Tech giant Apple, which is all set to unveil the new range of iPhones and other products on Wednesday, may launch the iPhone 14 and the brand new iPhone 14 Max with an enhanced version of the A15 Bionic chipset.

There has been speculation that the standard iPhone 14 models will be equipped with the iPhone 13 Pro's higher-end A15 chip with a five-core GPU for up to 25 per cent faster graphics performance. In the standard iPhone 13 models, the A15 chip has a four-core GPU, citing the WSJ, MacRumors reported.

However, the report did not provide any additional details about the chip

Improved graphics performance would likely be the only change to the A15 chip in the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max, which may be launched as iPhone 14 Plus, as the chip has the same 6-core CPU and 16-core Neural Engine in both the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 13 Pro.

In line with information shared by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo back in March, the report claimed that only the iPhone 14 Pro models will be upgraded with Apple's latest A16 chip for faster CPU performance.

The lineup, this year, may consist of a 6.1-inch iPhone 14, 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus, 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Apple has likely discontinued the 5.4-inch iPhone mini this year.

Called 'Far Out,' the September 7 event will showcase the new iPhone 14 lineup, Watches, and other products.

This will be an in-person event at Apple's Cupertino campus in the US, the company's first big event to take place since the two years of the pandemic.

Google warns users to quickly update Chrome to avoid hacking risk

New Delhi, Sep 6 (IANS) Google has advised its users to immediately install a security update in its Chrome browser to safeguard themselves against a serious bug being actively exploited by hackers.

The tech giant said it is aware of reports that an exploit for 'CVE-2022-3075' exists in the wild, mentioning the vulnerability as "Insufficient data validation in Mojo" reported by an anonymous security researcher.

The company said it has released a security patch for Google Chrome users on Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems that will roll out over the coming days/weeks.

"Access to bug details and links may be kept restricted until a majority of users are updated with a fix," Google said in a security update.

"We will also retain restrictions if the bug exists in a third party library that other projects similarly depend on, but haven't yet fixed," it added.

This is the sixth zero-day vulnerability Chrome has faced to date this year.

Chrome users now need to relaunch their browsers to activate the latest security update.

This latest update comes just days after Google released Chrome version 105 on August 30.

"We would like to thank all security researchers that worked with us during the development cycle to prevent security bugs from ever reaching the stable channel," said the company.

Next-gen GoPro likely to retain old design with new sensor

San Francisco, Sep 6 (IANS) US-based action camera manufacturer GoPro is planning to launch its flagship Hero11 Black with a new sensor and an old design.

The upcoming action camera might look identical to the Hero10, which was launched last year. All the significant changes will be made on the inside, as revealed by photographs and specifications, reports The Verge.

The biggest upgrade sounds like a new sensor, which will reportedly be capable of 27MP still images as the current Hero10 Black, for comparison, shoots 23MP photos.

The new model will reportedly still cap out at 5.3K at 60 frames per second, or 4K at 120 fps.

According to a recent report, the new model may include two displays, one at the back and the other next to the camera sensor at the front.

Meanwhile, GoPro Hero10 Black was launched in India last year for Rs 54,500 with a new GP2 processor.

The new processor enables HyperSmooth 4.0 video stabilisation for steadier shots. It also ensures higher resolution 23MP photos, and improved low-light performance.

GoPro Hero10 Black also has the ability to use the camera as a webcam for Zoom and Team calls.

SpaceX Falcon 9 had its 40th mission with 51 Starlink satellites: Heres the mission status

Elon Musk-run SpaceX on Monday said it has successfully deployed 51 more Starlink satellites in space, completing its 40th mission so far this year. The Falcon 9 rocket launched 51 Starlink satellites and Spaceflight's Sherpa-LTC to orbit from Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, the US. "Deployment of 51 Starlink satellites confirmed, completing SpaceX's 40th mission so far this year! Deployment of Spaceflight's Sherpa-LTC confirmed," the company said in a tweet. The Sherpa-LTC orbital transfer vehicle (OTV) carries Spaceflight's customer payload ( part of Boeing's Varuna Technology Demonstration Mission) that aims to test V-band communications for a future constellation of 147 non-geostationary broadband satellites. SpaceX's Falcon 9 will drop off Sherpa-LTC at a 310-kilometer altitude above Earth. Then, the Sherpa-LTC will use its onboard high-thrust propulsion system to maneuver to its designated 1,000-kilometer circular orbit where it will be tested for 2 years. Last week, Musk said SpaceX is launching Starlink satellites nearly every five days now and plans to launch 100 orbital missions in 2023. According to Musk, SpaceX is now carrying out rocket launches roughly every five days which would help the company easily achieve its target. SpaceX has already broken its own record for the most annual launches (31) and is now aiming to double the number. Late last month, SpaceX launched 54 more of its Starlink broadband satellites in orbit and landed a rocket on a ship at sea. Meanwhile, Royal Caribbean Group has become the first in the global cruise industry to adopt SpaceX Starlink's high-speed, low-latency Internet services for a better onboard experience for guests and crew. The broadband internet service will be installed on all Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Silversea Cruises ships, along with all new vessels for each of the brands. The installation is slated to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2023.
