IIT Madras opens Indias quantum research doors, joins IBMs quantum computing network

One of the most exciting topics of discussion of late in the world of tech has been of quantum computing. Adding to that was the recent announcement made by IIT Madras that the premier engineering and research institute of India is joining hands with IBM to gain access to their quantum computing tech and take research and development to the next level.

This announcement was made on Monday when the top brass of both institutions got together to make this announcement, much to everyone’s excitement. The collaboration between IBM and IIT Madras is aimed at “accelerating the research, adoption, skilling and application of quantum computing to address business and societal challenges in India.”

Opening new doors to new possibilities

It would help jumpstart the quantum computing ecosystem. Quantum computing is a fundamentally new technology that is seeing a rise in popularity in a world where tech is maturing at a rapid pace. So, this collaboration would open the doors to the professors, students, and researchers at the university to lay their hands on this era-defining technology and make important developments by harnessing the computational prowess of quantum computers.

India Research Laboratory, Bangalore, who remarked, “…it allows an instant start to the work.” The deployment of a quantum computing system requires a lot of time and resources. So, it makes sense for the institute to collaborate rather than spend time and resources setting up a system on such a large scale.

The collaboration aims to accelerate the discovery of problems and solutions in different areas of our daily lives. Things like drug discovery and research relating to the discovery of new materials for electric vehicles are currently hindered due to the limited capabilities of the computers that we have right now. The solution to this problem lies in quantum computing. 

According to the experts who were a part of the panel discussing the possibilities that quantum computing would open in India, the country is right at the top of the charts when it comes to countries using quantum tech. The stakeholders, both at the industry level and the academic level are self-educating, providing a vital push to the quantum computing ecosystem in the country. In the long run, this would lead to the convergence of academia and the industry, fostering an environment where research would see significant boost and improvements.

Elon Musks Twitter was bombarded by crypto spam from bots and hacked verified accounts: Heres what happened

Elon Musk on Monday was spammed by hacked verified accounts along with non-verified accounts sharing links to crypto scams, as he shared an update about Tesla's latest version of full self-driving (FSD) Beta.

Several of these accounts were bots but some were also hacked verified Twitter accounts.

A Twitter user shared screenshots about Musk being bombarded with fake accounts on his latest tweet.

"FSD Beta 10.69.2 rolling out now. Please note that top priority is safety, so expect it to be overly cautious, especially around pedestrians," Musk posted.

Within no time, spammed crypto accounts hit Musk, who tweeted "Sigh".

Musk recently went after the Parag Agrawal-led platform after a top cybersecurity expert claimed that as high as eight in 10 Twitter accounts are fake.

Dan Woods, Global Head of Intelligence at cybersecurity company F5, told The Australian that more than 80 per cent of Twitter accounts are probably bots -- a massive claim as Twitter says only 5 per cent of its users are bots/spams.

Musk last week claimed 90 per cent of the comments on his tweets are actually bots or spam replies.

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO has terminated the $44 billion Twitter takeover deal, and the matter is now in a US court, over the presence of bots on the platform, and seeks answers from Agrawal via an open debate.

The Musk-Twitter trial is slated to begin from October 17.

According to Woods, a former CIA and FBI cybersecurity specialist, both Musk and Twitter have underestimated the bot problem on the micro-blogging platform.

Xiaomi is probing the Redmi phone battery explosion that allegedly killed a Delhi-NCR woman

After a YouTuber claimed on social media that her aunt allegedly died after her Redmi 6A smartphone exploded near her on the bed while sleeping, Xiaomi said it was probing the unfortunate incident.

The YouTuber, who goes by the name MD Talk YT, shared screenshots of the exploded phone as well as her aunt lying in a pool of blood on the bed, claiming that an alleged battery explosion killed her relative who was living in the Delhi-NCR region.

"Yesterday in night my aunty was found dead, she was using a Redmi 6A, she was sleeping and she kept the phone near her face on the pillow side & after sometime her phone blasted. It's a bad time for us. It's a responsibility of a brand to support," the tweet read.

Xiaomi replied in a tweet, saying the company is working to reach out to the impacted family and investigate the situation.

"At Xiaomi India, customer safety is of utmost importance and we take such matters extremely seriously. Our team is trying to get in touch with the affected family and determine the cause of the incident".

The YouTuber from Haryana further posted that the victim's son is serving in the Indian Army and the family lives a very simple life.

"Her family is so simple, her son is in the Indian Army. They don't know so much. She only uses her phone just for calling & watching YouTube. Now if brands don't accept their mistakes, don't take responsibility directly, if a family has to fight for justice then what's the use," the YouTuber said in a tweet.

Google Play Stores new app review policy to bring more genuine reviews and ratings: Heres how it works

Tech giant Google is bringing a new app review policy to make app ratings and reviews as genuine as possible in the Play Store.

The latest change will hold up user-submitted reviews and ratings by around 24 hours before they go public, assuming they're from real people, reports Android Central.

As per the report, the tech giant aims for the new policy to detect suspicious ratings and reviews on Android apps.

"To allow us to automatically detect suspicious Ratings or Reviews activity, we are introducing a delay of around 24 hours from when users submit Ratings or Reviews to when those submissions are published," Google was quoted as saying in an advisory.

"In this period, you will still be able to help your users by seeing Reviews and replying to them, but these won't be immediately public," it added.

The report mentioned that the new policy might help to reduce the spread of fake reviews on online products.

The tech giant warned against posting the same review multiple times, as well as reviews for the same content from multiple accounts, the report said.

The UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) launched an investigation into Google and Amazon last year to determine whether they "may not have done enough" to combat fake reviews on their respective platforms.

A cheaper Google Chromecast could launch in October: Heres what to expect

Tech giant Google is likely readying to launch a cheaper Chromecast, which might be sold for $30 (Rs 2,390 approx) in October. According to GSMArena, a set of photos obtained by TecnoBlog shows images of a new, cheaper Chromecast that looks exactly like the Chromecast with Google TV. As per the report, though it is visually identical to the Chromecast with Google TV launched in 2020, it carries a different model number -- G454V. This model has gone throughAFederal Communications Commission (FCC) certification already and it is rumoured to be different internally. This unreleased Chromecast will run an Amlogic S805X2 chip with AV1 support and 2GB RAM. While it is less powerful than the 4K model, it is expected to support up to 1080p output resolution, the report said. This cheaper Chromecast is expected to come with a voice remote, as per WinFuture. This new lower-cost Chromecast could arrive during Google's October 6 event, where it will fully launch the Google Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, as well as the Pixel Watch and rumour has it there will be some more Nest Home devices coming as well.
