Galaxy S23 likely to feature slightly thicker bezels than its predecessor

Seoul, Sep 16 (IANS) South Korean tech giant Samsung's upcoming flagship phone Galaxy S23 will reportedly come with slightly thicker bezels than the Galaxy S22.

Samsung will be widening all four bezels for the Galaxy S23 by 0.15mm. This will not make a huge difference, but it could make the device look slightly bulkier than its predecessor, citing a tipster, GizmoChina reported.

Recently, the tipster also revealed that the Galaxy S23 will have the same 6.1-inch display, but it will be slightly longer and wider than the existing model and the extra 0.15mm bezels explain how.

The upcoming Galaxy S23 series is said to feature no upgrades in terms of display size. However, they may feature better specs, like supporting a higher peak brightness level, lower power consumption, and more.

The S23 series may have three models -- Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra. The top-tier S23 Ultra is said to feature some serious upgrades.

A recent report suggests the device will feature a 200MP primary sensor on the back having a size of 1/1.3 inches and 0.6Im sized pixels and a larger aperture of f/1.7 for getting in more light.

All the models in the series are expected to be powered by Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 Soc and will focus on battery efficiency.

The Galaxy S23 series will launch in 2023.

Garuda Aerospace maps 7,000 villages in UP with drones under Svamitva Scheme

Chennai, Sep 15 (IANS) The Chennai-based Garuda Aerospace, a Drones-as-a-Service (DaaS) startup, has successfully mapped 7,000 villages in Uttar Pradesh under the Svamitva Scheme.

The company won the tender from the nodal agency, The Survey of India in September 2021.

As per the tender, Garuda Aerospace was authorised to deploy drones for large-scale mapping and digitisations of land records in rural areas, thereby empowering land-owners and farmers with accurate digital land certificates and a unique identity that enables them to get a layout of their entire land with precise and all information.

As the winner of the largest order, Garuda Aerospace deployed 15 fixed-wing drones for the purpose of mapping at the speed of 8 to 10 sq kms per hour.

Of the 140,000 villages, Garuda Aerospace has successfully mapped 7,000 villages, the highest number of villages mapped by any drone company within a year.

"We have completed over 7,000 villages in UP in the last one year and hope to deploy drones and target a few more villages in the next couple of months. We introduced a fixed-wing drone which looks like an aeroplane with wings and can cover a significant area within minutes," Agnishwar Jayaprakash, Founder, CEO, Garuda Aerospace said.

Google to show Play Store reviews based on your device

San Francisco, Sep 15 (IANS) With an aim to make it more user-friendly, Google has reportedly introduced a new feature that will show reviews on the Play Store based on the type of device a person is using.

The update, promised to occur in "early 2022" in August 2021, now has arrived as Google prepares to introduce its own tablet and wearable, reports The Verge.

In the reviews section of the Play Store, there is now a notice to let you know that ratings are "verified,a and that you are being shown feedback from people using the same type of device as you, the report said.

This feature is becoming increasingly important as Android apps spread to even more form factors; someone using Google's upcoming Pixel Tablet will experience an app very differently than someone running it on a Chromebook.

"Early next year we will further update ratings to reflect the device type users are browsing Play on, whether it's: tablets and foldables, Chrome OS, Wear, or Auto," the company had said in a blogpost last year.

"This will give users a better impression of the experience that they can expect for the device they're using," it added.

The tech giant had mentioned that ratings help people decide which apps to download and they are taken into consideration for featuring and placement on Play Store.

Google slashes R&D projects as Pichai to make company 20 more efficient

San Francisco, Sep 15 (IANS) Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai aims to make the company 20 per cent more efficient hinting at job cuts, as the tech giant cancelled the projects at its in-house research and development (R&D) division called Area 120.

Addressing the gathering at the Code Conference in the US, Pichai said that the more the company tries to understand the macroeconomic conditions, it feels very uncertain about it.

"The macroeconomic performance is correlated to ad spend, consumer spend and so on," he told the audience.

TechCrunch reported that the company is slashing projects at its in-house R&D division Area 120 that has nearly 100 employees.

"We've recently shared that Area 120 will be shifting its focus to projects that build on Google's deep investment in AI and have the potential to solve important user problems. As a result, Area 120 is winding down several projects to make way for new work," a Google spokesperson was quoted as saying.

Affected team members "will receive dedicated support as they explore new projects and opportunities at Google", the spokesperson added.

Area 120 has launched several products, like gaming platform GameSnacks, an AirTable rival called Tables, an AI-powered conversational ads platform AdLingo, video platforms Tangi and Shoploop, and more.

Google has suspended hiring new employees and reportedly told some existing employees to "shape up or ship out" if expectations are not met.

As Big Tech companies lay off employees in the global economic downturn, Google executives have reportedly warned workers to either boost performance or prepare to leave as "there will be blood on the streets" if the next quarterly earnings are not good.

In a company message viewed by Insider, Google Cloud sales leadership has threatened employees with an "overall examination of sales productivity and productivity in general" and that if next quarter results "don't look up, there will be blood on the streets".

Microsoft to allow real-time document signing during Team meetings

San Francisco, Sep 15 (IANS) Tech giant Microsoft has created a sample app for Teams that allow people to sign documents during remote meetings.

According to Windows Central, the application lets users add a document to a meeting for attendees to sign, such as a purchase agreement, invoice, or NDA.

The sample app was made by Teams Ecosystem Engineering as a proof of concept aimed at independent software vendors (ISVs) or other customers implementing it.

The entire project is available and documented on GitHub, which should help organisations that would like to use it within meetings, the report said.

The app allows users to add a document to a meeting to be reviewed or signed by attendees. It supports Teams single-sign-on (SSO) for authentication.

The report mentioned that it also supports sharing content during a meeting stage, adaptive cards, and the Teams people picker.

Microsoft noted that the app could be adapted to work with other scenarios that require signing off, such as reviewing and approving code or working together on a document.

The sample app is currently available for desktop clients of Teams. Mobile and web support is on the way, though Microsoft did not specify when in its Tech Community post announcing the feature, the report said.

Currently, the app only works with users from the same organisation or tenant. Guest and anonymous user support are also on the way, it added.
