Apple fixes bug causing activation issue in iPhone 14 series

San Francisco, Sep 17 (IANS) Apple has fixed a bug in the latest iOS 16 update that prevented some customers from activating new iPhone 14 devices.

The iOS 16.0.1 update resolves the activation or migration issues faced by the users of new iPhones.

According to a MacRumors report, the new iPhone 14 users facing the activation issues may need to restore with a Mac or PC to iOS 16.0.1 to fix the bug and fully activate their new devices.

The company has sent a memo to customers, saying ""there is a known issue for iOS 16 that may impact device activations on open Wi-Fi networks."

The tech giant said that there are no current official fixes and that support staff should "not create a repair (case) for the issue."

In a separate support update, the company said that if you have an issue with Messages or FaceTime after setting up your new iPhone, "update to the latest version of iOS to address the issue".

"iMessage and FaceTime might not complete activation on iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro. To resolve this, update to the latest version of iOS," said Apple.

The new Apple 14 series and Apple Watch Series 16 went on sale globally, including in India, on Friday.

Those interested can now buy iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch SE from Apple Authorised resellers and Apple Store Online.

Apple working on new ways to save power on future iPhones

San Francisco, Sep 16 (IANS) Tech giant Apple is reportedly researching how a future iPhone can save power by automatically pausing playback when you're not paying attention to the media.

Just about every Apple device bar the Apple Pencil can play music or some kind of audio, and most of them have microphones, reports AppleInsider.

The tech giant wants to use those microphones, and very many other sensors, to determine whether you are paying attention.

Newly-revealed patent application, "Proactive Actions Based on Audio and Body Movement," could be applied to any Apple device, but it is specifically about stopping audio.

And that's specifically about stopping it in order to conserve battery power instead of wasting it on something you are no longer interested in, the report said.

There are other possibilities, such as displaying information about an artist when you are detected as being interested.

But as with most patent applications, this one is focused most on determining your lack of attention and less on precisely what actions could follow.

Apple even said "various actions may be performed proactively based on the identifying the interest in the content" of the music or other audio being played.

Twitter to roll out much-awaited Edit Tweet feature for Blue subscribers on Sep 21

New Delhi, Sep 16 (IANS) Twitter is set to roll out its much-awaited Edit Tweet feature on September 21, which will be available first for its Blue subscribers who pay $4.99 per month.

The Edit Tweet feature lets people make changes to their tweet after it's been published.

Edited Tweets will appear with an icon, timestamp, and label so it's clear to readers that the original Tweet has been modified.

Tapping the label will take viewers to the Tweet's Edit History, which includes past versions of the Tweet.

Casey Newton of Platformer said in a tweet on Friday that the feature is likely to be rolled out to the public starting next week.

"Twitter is planning to begin the public test of editing tweets on Wednesday 9/21, per internal documents shared with me," he posted.

Twitter users have been asking for an edit button for years to fix typos and grammatical errors.

Earlier this month, Twitter announced a small test for the Edit Tweet feature with an internal team first, before it rolls out the feature to the public.

"Think of it as a short period of time to do things like fix typos, add missed tags, and more," said Twitter.

Twitter said it is intentionally testing Edit Tweet with a smaller group to also know how people might misuse the feature.

The test will be localised to a single country at first and expand as "we learn and observe how people use Edit Tweet".

"We'll also be paying close attention to how the feature impacts the way people read, write, and engage with Tweets," according to the company.

Galaxy S23 likely to feature slightly thicker bezels than its predecessor

Seoul, Sep 16 (IANS) South Korean tech giant Samsung's upcoming flagship phone Galaxy S23 will reportedly come with slightly thicker bezels than the Galaxy S22.

Samsung will be widening all four bezels for the Galaxy S23 by 0.15mm. This will not make a huge difference, but it could make the device look slightly bulkier than its predecessor, citing a tipster, GizmoChina reported.

Recently, the tipster also revealed that the Galaxy S23 will have the same 6.1-inch display, but it will be slightly longer and wider than the existing model and the extra 0.15mm bezels explain how.

The upcoming Galaxy S23 series is said to feature no upgrades in terms of display size. However, they may feature better specs, like supporting a higher peak brightness level, lower power consumption, and more.

The S23 series may have three models -- Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra. The top-tier S23 Ultra is said to feature some serious upgrades.

A recent report suggests the device will feature a 200MP primary sensor on the back having a size of 1/1.3 inches and 0.6Im sized pixels and a larger aperture of f/1.7 for getting in more light.

All the models in the series are expected to be powered by Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 Soc and will focus on battery efficiency.

The Galaxy S23 series will launch in 2023.

Of the 140,000 villages, Garuda Aerospace has successfully mapped 7,000 villages, the highest number of villages mapped by any drone company within a year.
