Electronic Arts launches new PC client for Windows and Mac users after 10 years

One of the most popular video game publishers, Electronic Arts, has bid farewell to the 10-year-old Origin platform. From now on, players will enjoy their download and manage their favourite games through the new EA app, which has been under development for two years. The new app comes with improvements in the UI, helping users discover new games, stay connected with their friends and provide an enhanced user experience.

The new PC client is EA’s fastest platform yet

In the official blog post, EA calls the new PC client their “fastest and lightest PC client to date.” Before the announcement, EA tested the PC client in open beta. The new EA app comes with a streamlined design that ensures players can easily find the game they want. Further, the app features automatic game downloads and background updates so that the games are ready to play anytime.

The EA App will also allow users to connect to other platforms and services like PlayStation, Xbox and Steam. This feature will be helpful, especially for games that support cross-play, including the latest FIFA 13 and Apex Legends. Further, EA will assign users a unique ID that will make them recognisable by their friends. Electronics Arts will invite Origin app users to switch to the “faster, more reliable, and more streamlined gaming experience” soon.

Players can download the new platform from EA’s official website

Players don’t need to worry about their games, including local and cloud saves and other related content, as by the time EA invites them, all their digital assets will be waiting for them on the new app. However, if someone hasn’t received the invite, they can head to the official EA website and download the latest PC client for Windows and macOS. Additionally, the friend lists will be transferred as well.

NASAs Hubble captures spectacular pair of interacting galaxies

Washington, Oct 8 (IANS) NASA's Hubble Space Telescope has captured a stunning pair of two face-on galaxies, providing spectacular views of their spiral arms, background stars and galaxies.

The two interacting galaxies, making up the pair known as 'Arp-Madore 608-333', seem to float side by side in this image from the Hubble Space Telescope.

"Though they appear serene and unperturbed, the two are subtly warping one another through a mutual gravitational interaction that is disrupting and distorting both galaxies. Hubble's Advanced Camera for Surveys captured this drawn-out galactic interaction," NASA said in a statement.

The interacting galaxies are part of an effort to build up an archive of interesting targets for more detailed future study with Hubble, ground-based telescopes, and the NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope.

To build up this archive, astronomers scoured existing astronomical catalogues for a list of targets spread throughout the night sky.

They hoped to include objects already identified as interesting and that would be easy for Hubble to observe no matter which direction it was pointing.

"Deciding how to award Hubble observing time is a drawn-out, competitive, and difficult process, and the observations are allocated to use every last second of Hubble time available," said NASA.

However, there is a small but persistent fraction of time - around 2-3 per cent - that goes unused as Hubble turns to point at new targets.

Snapshot programmes not only produce beautiful images but also enable astronomers to gather as much data as possible with Hubble, according to the space agency.

The Hubble Space Telescope was launched into low-Earth orbit in 1990 and remains in operation.

Apple A16 Bionic costs more than twice to manufacture compared to A15

Tokyo, Oct 8 (IANS) The A16 Bionic chip in iPhone 14 Pro models costs $110 to manufacture, which is 2.4 times more than A15 chip in iPhone 14 models.

A Nikkei teardown of Apple's iPhone 14 series models revealed that production costs jumped nearly 20 per cent from its previous iPhone generation which is an all-time high.

"The company has not raised prices for its latest model in the US and some other markets, but higher production costs mean that the company's profit margin has likely shrunk," the report mentioned on Friday.

The production of iPhone 14 Pro Max costs Apple $501, up more than $60 from iPhone 13 Pro Max.

The higher production cost is reportedly due to the A16 Bionic chips in the iPhone 14 Pro models.

According to the report, Parts for the iPhone 14 primarily come from US suppliers, accounting for 32.4 per cent of costs.

Apple raised iPhone prices in some countries, such as Japan and Australia, but not in the US and other markets owing to foreign exchange rates as the US dollar has been very strong this year.

The A16 Bionic chip in iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max offers experiences like the Dynamic Island, powers all-day battery life, and delivers impressive computational photography capabilities.

With two high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores, the new 6-core CPU is up to 40 per cent faster than the competition and easily handles demanding workloads. A16 Bionic features an accelerated 5-core GPU with 50 percent more memory bandwidth -- perfect for graphics-intensive games and apps -- and a new 16-core Neural Engine capable of nearly 17 trillion operations per second, according to Apple.

The CPU, GPU, Neural Engine and image signal processor seamlessly work together to support the new camera hardware and perform up to 4 trillion operations per photo.

Overwatch 2 users complained of long waiting times and connection errors

The company had to face a second blow after the release on Tuesday. The users were not content with the gaming experience and complained about the long queue time and the connection error. The players on the PC reported black screen issues and crashes.

Blizzard announced the server downtime and explained the intended fixes. The server will be offline twice -

3:00-4:00 PM PDT: The users won't be able to access their accounts during this downtime because the company will fix some bugs relating to account merge, login, and the First Time User Experience.

6:00-9:00 PM PDT (approximately): The servers will be offline the 2nd time to address the long player queues that users are reporting.  The PC players will have to update their clients to fix the issue of crashes and black screens.

Blizzard has already implemented some fixes, like merging PC and console accounts. Blizzard also explained some bug fixes that the company is aware of on the company's forum post. In addition, the company is scrapping the requirement for a non-prepaid phone for most players starting October 7. The SMS protection system, which was intended to keep a check on the disruptive behavior and cheating habits of the player will remain intact even for brand-new users.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series launch delayed: Expected to release next year

Samsung launches its flagship premium tablet series every year. Early this year, Samsung released the S8 series - the Galaxy Tab S8, Galaxy Tab S8+, and theGalaxy Tab S8 Ultra. Reports confirmed that the world's second-largest tablet company delayed the development of the next-gen S9 series, and concluded that the launch of the tablet has also been postponed. The development scheduled to start in December 2022 will now begin early next year.

As per the report, Samsung has decided to delay its flagship next-gen Tab, the Galaxy S9 series. The pandemic has almost ended, resulting in declining demand for IT products, and it has hindered the company's plan of producing 33.6 million units of tablets in 2022.

A new plan for Samsung's flagship next-gen Tab

The global economic instability has disrupted the overall tablet market. DSCC (Display Supply Chain Consultants) predicts a fall in the tablet market by 8% this year. However, the market can expect a 22% rise in the OLED and Mini LED premium tablet categories.

After the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 series and the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 series, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series will also include three models, the reports confirmed. The Vanilla model will sport an LCD screen, while the Plus version and the Ultra variant will feature an OLED panel.

Samsung has kept the launch dates under wrap, but users can expect the release of the latest Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series in the second half of 2023.

NFS Unbound announced: Everything you need to know

EA has announced the name of the newest instalment in its long-running arcade racing series, Need for Speed. Called NFS Unbound, the new game comes after a hiatus of nearly three years. The last game in the series, NFS: Heat was released in 2019. The game also comes with a new art style that’s heavily based on urban graffiti. Music will feature artists such as A$AP Rocky and AWGE.

NFS Unbound: Cars

But of course, the most important part of NFS will always be the cars. Thankfully, EA has not skimped on this part. According to the game’s official website, Unbound will offer 143 different vehicles. This will include vehicles from major manufacturers such as Ferrari, Dodge, Lamborghini, Nissan, Aston Martin and more. As has been the case with almost all racing games over the past decade, players will get the chance to customise their vehicles to match their tastes. This would include car parts, wraps, paint and more.

NFS Unbound: Story and Gameplay

EA hasn’t yet provided extensive details about the game’s single-player story mode. The blurb on the announcement post states that it will kick off with a robbery at a family auto shop that “two friends apart and marks the rise from rookie to top racer on a journey to win the ultimate street race and reclaim the priceless car that was stolen.”

Aside from the new visual cues, the new game will offer a new feature called Burst Nitrous, which is described as a new driving tactic. It also seems like players will be able to place bets using earned cash against rival racers. As the players continue racing, they will generate more heat, which will increase the chances of police showing up.

NFS Unbound: Map

The game is set in Lakeshore City, a fictional American town. As is the case with almost all sandbox maps, the city mixes in a little bit of everything. This includes tight urban environments, picturesque coastal roads, and swooping countryside. You can learn more about the map as well as some key locations here.

NFS Unbound: Price and Availability

NFS Unbound is scheduled to release on December 2 and will be available on the Sony PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC via the EA app, Origin, Steam and Epic Store. The game will be priced at $69.99 and is already available for pre-order. As a bonus, those who pre-order will get epic driving effects packs, decals, license plates, banner artwork, stickers and $150,000 Bank in their wallet when they first join multiplayer.

Players can also purchase the Need For Speed Palace Edition for $79.99. This will reward players with four custom cars, a clothing pack, driving effects, decals and license plates, character pose, banner artwork and more.

EA Play members will get to play the game early with a 10-hour trial starting on November 29. As a bonus, they will get to enjoy exclusive recurring in-game benefits. EA Play Pro members on PC will get unlimited access to NFS Unbound Palace Edition on November 29.

EA also notes that it plans to release free content updates post-launch. This would include new features, experiences, content drops, etc.
