Apple 5G modem may take its sweet time before arriving in an iPhone: Know details

Apple is likely to build its own 5G modem for new iPhones but reports suggest that chip-maker Qualcomm is still going to provide its modem for upcoming iPhones at least till 2025.

A note to investors by Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu has said that Qualcomm Snapdragon X75 modem will be used in the 2024 iPhones.

Meanwhile, all four iPhone 15 models next year are expected to be equipped with Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon X70 modem.

The 5G modem will be made by TSMC using a 4nm process to introduce power efficiencies, reports MacRumors.

The iPhone 15 using X70 modem could provide download speeds of up to 10Gbps, improved coverage, better signal quality and up to 60 per cent improved power efficiency.

However, the prospect of an iPhone using an Apple-designed modem has potentially been pushed back to 2025, the report suggested.

Famed Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also predicted that iPhone 15 could continue to use Qualcomm modems.

According to Kuo, due to the high demand for the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max, the tech giant may decide to further differentiate its next iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models.

Kuo had also suggested that "Ultra" will exclusively have a periscope lens (6x or 5x). Also, the Ultra will come with an improved battery life.

Facebook warns its users about their data being stolen: Here is what happened

Meta-owned Facebook has announced that it would be warning around a million Facebook users about their login credentials being stolen. Facebook says that this is all because of a security flaw with over 400 apps downloaded from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

In a statement, Facebook said that the apps in the list include many photo editing software, camera apps, games, VPNs and even some fitness tracking apps. Facebook has already confirmed that they have notified both Apple and Google.

As of now, both Apple and Google have many of the 400 applications reported by Facebook. Meanwhile, a Google spokesperson claimed that the Android users are protected by Google Play Protect which blocks such harmful or shady apps.

Malicious apps and compromised FB login: What happened

Malicious Apps

Facebook explained that after a user downloads one of the malicious apps reported by them, the app would first ask for a Facebook login to work. When the user logs in using Facebook, they basically gives in their login credentials like username and password. Now this grants the app developer access to their data and they won’t even have an idea.

"Cybercriminals know how popular these types of apps are, and they'll use similar themes to trick people and steal their accounts and information," said David Agranovich, Director of Global Threat Disruption at Meta. "If an app is promising something too good to be true, like unreleased features for another platform or social media site, chances are that it has ulterior motives."

Furthermore, during a briefing, he also said that “Many of the apps provided little to no functionality before you logged in, and most provided no functionality even after a person agreed to log in”.

Compromised FB account: What you need to do Reset Facebook account with a stronger password. Activate 2-factor authentication on your Facebook account. Enable login alerts so that you will be notified when an unauthorized login happens.

Google is going to pull the plug of Assistant Driving Mode Dashboard soon: Here is what you are left with

Tech giant Google has announced to shut down the Assistant Driving Mode Dashboard that was announced at its developer conference I/O in 2019.

Google will shut down the entire Assistant Driving Mode Dashboard on November 21, reports 9To5Google.

Driving Mode, another name for the car-optimised experience in Google Maps for Android, will continue to exist, the report said.

Shortcuts for calling and messaging are included on the homescreen, along with audio controls and media choices.

Shortcuts can be accessed, after starting the driving navigation. It has a black bar with Assistant access and a grid of app icons for YouTube Music, Google Podcasts, and other compatible streaming services.

"Voice shortcuts also available for phoning and texting. Compared to the Driving Mode Dashboard, it is significantly more straightforward," said the report.

Google now no longer has a direct successor to Android Auto for Phone Screens with this change, the report added.

Google in 2019 announced to roll out a voice-enabled driving mode on Assistant that would not only personalise suggestions for navigation, messages, calling and media, but also bring all relevant activities front and centre.

Driving mode would launch on Assistant once the user connects their phone to the car's Bluetooth.

If the user's phone is not connected to the car, they could just say, "Hey Google, let's drive".

In addition to driving mode, Google also announced to make it possible to use Assistant to remotely control cars -- like users could ask Google to adjust the car's temperature before the driver gets in.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 details leaked: Here is everything you need to know

Qualcomm’s Sanpdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC was announced earlier this year and as of now, it has been used in a few smartphones. Now it looks like the company is gearing up to launch the new Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 SoC, as a new leak about the SoC has revealed new some details. So let’s take a detailed look at the leaked specifications of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 2.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 details

Qualcomm is expected to announce the new Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 SoC soon. Popular tipster, Roland Quandt has revealed a few details of the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon SM7475 which will reportedly be the Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 SoC.

If we take a look at the details, the SM7475 might have a tri-cluster design with a single Prime core, three Gold cores and four Silver cores. The Prime core could have a 2.4GHz peak clock speed, whereas the Gold cores might come with a 2.36GHz peak core frequency and the Silver cores should be clocked at 1.8GHz.

The SoC is likely to feature Cortex A715 for the Prime and Gold cores, while the Silver cores could use Cortex-A510. While the SoC would offer very huge performance gains over the current Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC, it could be much more efficient.

While Qualcomm still hasn’t made any announcement regarding the Snapdragon 7 Gen 2, chances for the launch are much higher now as the company will be hosting a Snapdragon Summit next month. The company will be revealing its new flagship mobile platform, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, so we might get to see the Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 SoC there as well.

Electronic Arts launches new PC client for Windows and Mac users after 10 years

One of the most popular video game publishers, Electronic Arts, has bid farewell to the 10-year-old Origin platform. From now on, players will enjoy their download and manage their favourite games through the new EA app, which has been under development for two years. The new app comes with improvements in the UI, helping users discover new games, stay connected with their friends and provide an enhanced user experience.

The new PC client is EA’s fastest platform yet

In the official blog post, EA calls the new PC client their “fastest and lightest PC client to date.” Before the announcement, EA tested the PC client in open beta. The new EA app comes with a streamlined design that ensures players can easily find the game they want. Further, the app features automatic game downloads and background updates so that the games are ready to play anytime.

The EA App will also allow users to connect to other platforms and services like PlayStation, Xbox and Steam. This feature will be helpful, especially for games that support cross-play, including the latest FIFA 13 and Apex Legends. Further, EA will assign users a unique ID that will make them recognisable by their friends. Electronics Arts will invite Origin app users to switch to the “faster, more reliable, and more streamlined gaming experience” soon.

Players can download the new platform from EA’s official website

Players don’t need to worry about their games, including local and cloud saves and other related content, as by the time EA invites them, all their digital assets will be waiting for them on the new app. However, if someone hasn’t received the invite, they can head to the official EA website and download the latest PC client for Windows and macOS.
