YouTube handles introduced as a truly unique ID for creators: Here is how to get your YouTube handle

YouTube is borrowing a feature that’s found in social media platforms like Twitter. We are talking about ‘handles’ and now every YouTube user can get a “truly unique” ID that’s different from YouTube channel names. We will get to know the hows, whys, and whatnot of YouTube handles here.

What is YouTube handle?

YouTube handle

YouTube Handle is being called “a new for people to easily find and engage with creators and each other on YouTube”.

Now, you may think but isn’t there channel names for that purpose?

How is YouTube Handle different from YouTube Channel?

Well, there can be multiple YouTube channels with the same name. But, YouTube handles will be unique and distinct. This will help the creator brand themselves better and their viewers/audience can connect with them easily using the handle. You could interact with your favorite YouTube via YouTube comments, mentions, in Shorts, etc. YouTube handle will also appear on Shorts player, Search results, and your channel page. So all in all, better YouTube engagement and visibility.

Another important difference between YouTube handle and YouTube channel is how changing the former doesn't impact your verification badget but changing the channel name will remove the badge.

How and when will I get YouTube handle?

YouTube handle

First of all, if you have a YouTube account you are eligible for a YouTube handle.

Further, YouTube says those channels with a personalized URL will automatically get the same thing as their YouTube channel.

However, you will get to change it once you get a notification via YouTube Studio and your registered email. Also, on the other hand, if you get a YouTube handle, that would also be used as part of a matching YouTube channel URL.

As for the YouTube handle rollout timeline, YouTube says it will be rolling them out gradually starting next month.

Now, the priority is decided upon whether your YouTube channel is active or not, your subscriber count, and your overall presence on the platform.

You can check if your YouTube account is ready for handles by visiting youtube.com/handle. You will be able to customize the handle also from the same link. You will have the option to pick a handle by November 14 at the earliest.

Doom can now apparently run on Windows Notepad application

Launched in 1993, the original Doom game is rightly revered amongst gamers. Not only was it one of the first FPS games to grace us with its presence, but it was a pretty cool game to boot. In fact, pretty much every gamer should try playing it at least once. Thankfully, the game is so old that it can run on pretty much anything. As YouYuber Samperson (Sam Chiet) demonstrates, the game will run on Notepad. Yup, that note taking application in Windows can now run Doom.

i got DOOM running inside Notepad at 60fps pic.twitter.com/EQFuRu4N0r

— Samperson (Crime Arc) (@SamNChiet) October 9, 2022

In a video posted on YouTube, Samperson shows Doom running on Notepad, in what seems to be a video version of ASCII art. To be fair, it looks more that Notepad is simply displaying the game, while software is doing most of the heavy lifting. Regardless, it is still a very impressive feat. Samperson notes that the footage in the clip has not been sped up and the code for the Notepad.exe file has not been modified.

Of course, it obviously isn’t the best way to play Doom. For starters, saying that the game lacks detail would be an understatement, let alone the fact that the whole thing will be in black and white. But, don’t let that distract you from the fact that this is extremely impressive. Even John Romero, the creator of Doom himself retweeted Samperson calling it “incredible.” There is no higher praise. As one commentator on YouTube, Dartanian, put it, “This is both insanely impressive and seizure inducing all at once.”

Of course, this theme of playing Doom on increasingly convoluted and mundane devices has become quite the challenge for developers. Back in 2020, Twitter user @Foone posted a video showing Doom running on a pregnancy test. Who knew that would end up setting a bar for developers.

Wonder what’s next?

Microsoft confirms that Windows 11 22H2 update is causing decreased copying speeds-and it has a workaround

Microsoft has confirmed that there is a performance reduction when users copy large files from a remote computer to a computer with Windows 11 22H2 update. The company has said that the issue could also be present when copying files on a local drive. Let’s take a deep dive into what exactly has happened!

Decrease in copying performance: What happened

After the recent Windows 11 22H2 update, various users have reported a decrease in system performance, while trying to copy files within Windows. Ned Pyle, Manager of the Windows Server engineering group also confirmed that the issue is present and said that the experience might vary for different users.   Microsoft said in an update log that “Copying large multiple gigabyte (GB) files might take longer than expected to finish on Windows 11, version 22H2. You are more likely to experience this issue copying files to Windows 11, version 22H2 from a network share via Server Message Block (SMB) but local file copy might also be affected. Windows devices used by consumers in their homes or small offices are not likely to be affected by this issue.”

Decrease in copying performance: What you need to do

While there is no official solution for the problem, Microsoft says that they are working on a fix and it would be available in the next update. However, in case you’re facing this issue with your system, then you could perhaps try using a temporary workaround recommended by Microsoft.

The company has said that till the issue gets fixed, users can use file copy tools that do not use cache manager (buffered I/O). In simple words, users can use the robocopy and xcopy tools which are built-in command-line tools. Both commands have been listed below. :

robocopy \\someserver\someshare c:\somefolder somefile.img /J xcopy \\someserver\someshare c:\somefolder/J

Samsung explains how it recycles fishing nets for the build material on the new Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4

As you enjoy the new Samsung foldable devices, do you realise that the blue part you see in Galaxy Z Flip 4 is made of repurposed fishing nets?

According to Pranveer Singh Rathore, Materials R&D Manager, Samsung Electronics, the blue part, the side key bracket, basically avoids making your phone waterproof from the side keeper and dustproof.

"So it acts as a barrier to water and dust and improves the durability of your phone. Similarly, with the receiver decode that displays connector Cap and other green parts, they act as housing to the crucial components," he told the media during an interaction.

"As they are housing the critical components, they act as a barrier and are durable so that they can withstand all kinds of climatic conditions and all kinds of stresses they are exposed to," Rathore added.

Samsung has been in the news for repurposing fishing nets and using them in smartphones.

Every year, around 640,000 tonnes of fishing nets end up in our oceans, posing a serious threat to the marine ecosystem.

Fishing nets are typically made of nylon materials, which have the basic property of absorbing moisture and water.

"Starting with Galaxy S22 earlier this year and now with the new Galaxy Foldables and Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, we are scaling up the use of this innovative material," said the Samsung executive.

By the end of 2022, "we hope to prevent more than 50 tonnes of discarded fishing nets from entering our oceans".

According to Rathore, they have been researching and developing sustainable materials for over a decade.

"2017 is when we started applying post-consumer materials in inbox charges and in 2018, we applied this material across all the products and chargers. This was when we started developing a new material solution to replace fossil-based raw materials with bio-based raw materials, which are renewable," he informed.

By 2019, the company was able to develop this material, and then we applied this material to A and M series smartphones in the display frames.

Galaxy Buds 2 Pro contains mostly recycled materials. More than 90 per cent of the plastics used in Galaxy buds 2 Pro are recycled materials.

The repurposed fishing Nets are used in the internal brackets of the charging case, and the post-consumer materials are used in all the exterior parts of the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro.

"With the Galaxy Watch 5, we also introduced post-consumer materials in the ECG and BIA keys, which you can see from the outside," said Rathore.

By 2030, Samsung plans to establish system in which minerals extracted from all collected waste batteries can be reused

"By 2030, 50 per cent of plastic used in products will incorporate recycled resin and 100 per cent by 2050. The Galaxy Z Fold4 has already been designed to incorporate plastics recycled from discarded fishing nets and other marine waste, and the success seen here will soon be expanded to additional products," according to the company.
