FIFA 23 World Cup Mode leaked ahead of the official launch: Heres what it reveals

EA Sports have not officially launched the World Cup mode in FIFA 23, but fans were surprised to note that certain players could access the World Cup Online Quickplay's mode via Ultimate Team through a leak ahead of the launch. VGC reported that Youtuber NickRTFM managed to play a couple of matches using the Ultimate Team by selecting Multiplayer Activities - World Cup Online Quickplay, and then going back to play Online Tournaments.

FIFA 23 WC mode

The glitch only works on the PS5, so a few PlayStation users were the lucky ones to access the mode thanks to this leak. However, EA will likely fix this leak soon and send out an update for players to download the new mode. Usually, every time during a World Cup, the EA Sports FIFA game usually releases a World Cup tournament mode for offline and online gaming. FIFA 23 launched about a week ago, and it appears that this could attract more users towards the game.

FIFA 23 WC mode

The game will likely announce and release the World Cup mode close to the actual tournament. Still even before that, EA recently reported that the game made the series' most significant launch period, with over 10.3 million players alone in the first week. EA Sports has seemingly gone all-out in this final outing for the franchise, as the games will release under the EA Sports FC banner next year. It will be astonishing how the PlayStation community responds to the change and whether FIFA will choose to lease its license to another publisher making FIFA a challenger to EA FC.  We’ll see.

Spotify could soon launch a new Platinum plan: Here are its expected features

One of the world's most popular audio streaming services, Spotify, could be on the verge of releasing a new subscription plan. The plan, which might be called 'Platinum,' has been reportedly in development for almost two years. Recently, a 9To5Mac reader received the details about the purported plan in a survey sent to him by Spotify after cancelling his decade-long subscription. While the survey contained the expected price of the plan, it also included all the new features that could be released with it.

Spotify user received details of the Platinum pack in a survey

Spotify

Per the report published on October 14, 2022, a 9To5Mac reader, Drew, cancelled his 10-year-old Spotify subscription on the day to get a membership of Apple Music. However, Spotify shared a survey with Drew, including details about possible new plans and asked the user if he would consider subscribing back to Spotify in the next 30 days. The possible plan included in the survey was none other than the Spotify Platinum HiFi plan. Apparently, the survey listed the new plan's price to be $19.99 per month for one account.

Drew also received the list of features included in the Spotify Platinum plan, including HiFi, Studio Sound, Headphone Tuner and more. The publication also says that the styling of the survey received by Drew matches Spotify's typography, making it legitimate. Below is the complete list of all the features that the Spotify Platinum plan could feature.

HiFi Studio Sound Headphone Tuner Audio Insights Library Pro Playlist Pro Limited-ad Spotify podcasts Will users pay $19.99 per month for the Spotify Platinum pack?

Spotify

Although the features look great, competitors like Apple provide lossless music and Spatial Audio in student/individual plans that cost $5.99/9.99 per month. Hence, even with high-fidelity audio in the Platinum pack, Spotify might not be able to justify the ask that is effectively double. It is important to note that the launch date or timeline of the Platinum pack is not known yet. However, it should arrive in India with an adjusted price, like other Spotify plans active in the country.

Google brings Passkeys support to Chrome and Android devices: Here is everything you need to know

Google has reinforced its commitment towards passwordless smartphone usage by releasing support for passkey login to Chrome and Android. Earlier this year, Google was among the three tech giants that announced they’re working on passwordless sign-in features, including Microsoft and Apple. Going forward, users can create and use passkeys on Android devices. In addition, developers can build passkey support on their sites for users visiting via Chrome. Passkeys are the next big step towards smartphone security as they replace passwords and cannot be reused.

What is a passkey?

Google Passkeys

As per the Android Developers blog, “Passkeys follow already familiar UX patterns, and build on the existing experience of password autofill. For end-users." Using a passkey is similar to using a password, except the phone confirms whether it is actually the user by asking for another credential.

Adding to it, the blog explains, “Passkeys on users’ phones and computers are backed up and synced through the cloud to prevent lockouts in the case of device loss.” Users will also be able to use passkeys on their phones to sign in to websites and apps on other nearby devices.

In simple words, a passkey is a type of login credential that has the potential to replace passwords. Most importantly, a passkey only works on a particular device unless the user scans a QR code for signing in on another device after verifying via Face ID or fingerprint scanners. To avoid reuse, passkeys are created using public key cryptography, meaning each passkey is unique and encrypted. Further, with passkeys, users don’t need to remember the multiple passwords they’ve set for websites, as they can sign in using one passkey.

How to sign in to a website using a passkey?

Google Passkeys

First, an end user must create a passkey by confirming the passkey account information and presenting their screen lock, face or fingerprint. Once the passkey is created, users can log in by selecting the account they want to sign in to and present their biometrics. Since the passkeys are stored offline on the smartphone, users don’t have to worry about remembering several passwords.

Apart from this, a passkey on the phone can also be used to sign in on a nearby device. This is where the cross-platform compatibility of the technology comes in, as an Android user can sign in to a passkey-supported website using the Safari web browser on a Mac. Apple iOS 16 and macOS Ventura also support the technology, which will be rolled out to the masses this year.

Apple in plans to turn the iPad into a smart-home device with a new dock: Report

Apple is reportedly working on a dock for the iPad that will turn the tablet into a smart-home control device. The accessory could come out soon and strengthen the company’s portfolio of smart home devices. While the concept is not new, as we’ve seen similar devices like Amazon Echo Show in the past, Apple’s implementation may be better.

In his latest Power On newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman writes about the upcoming Apple product launch. Mark says that the company will reveal a new iPad Pro model powered by the unreleased M2 chip, a new entry-level iPad with a USB-C port and a "similar design to the iPad Pro," and the long-awaited iOS 16.1. Interestingly, Mark also talks about how Apple plans to "push its tablet deeper into the home with a plan to turn the device into a smart hub and a speaker." Google fans, does this sound familiar?

Get ready to see a new dock for iPad next year

Pixel Tablet

Google Pixel Tablet

The Cupertino-based tech giant will adopt a similar approach to what Google has done with the Pixel Tablet. Earlier this month, Google conducted the Made by Google launch event where, to everyone's surprise, it announced the Pixel Tablet. Google plans to sell a new accessory that allows users to dock the Pixel Tablet and use it like a home-control device like the Nest Hub Max.

Gurman states, "I'm told Apple is working to bring similar functionality to the iPad as soon as 2023." The idea is to make a smart device that users can place anywhere in their house, and Apple plans to achieve this by selling a new dock for the iPad. While the dock will act as a magnetic charger, it may also allow users to answer calls hands-free and use Siri to control the smart home devices and connected Apple devices.

Apple’s big bet towards smart-home devices market

Apple iPad

As the manufacturer already sells Apple TV and HomePod, making a dock for the iPad will be a big step towards smart-home devices. The iPad dock could be introduced as soon as next year. However, readers should remember that none of this is confirmed by the company. Apple is also said to be working on a larger version of the HomePod and a combined Apple TV and smart-speaker device, which could feature a camera for FaceTime and other hands-free functions.

Earlier, Gurman tweeted that Apple could release the iPadOS 16.1 update on October 24, 2022. Hence, there is a good chance that the new iPads will also be released on the same day. What Apple might not unveil at the upcoming event is the new MacBook Pro models. We'll know what's what in time.
