Elon Musks Starlink will soon be available on Recreational Vehicles

San Francisco, Oct 26 (IANS) Elon Musk-owned SpaceX has announced that its satellite Internet service Starlink will be available for recreational vehicles (RVs) in December.

Starlink for RVs allows users to get immediate access to high-speed, low-latency Internet while in motion, at any location where the company provides active coverage.

The flat high-performance service can connect to more satellites because of its broad field of view and improved GPS capabilities, providing reliable connectivity wherever it is needed.

The hardware of the setup is durable in tough situations and is made for permanent installation on the car.

Users can easily pack it up when they want to move to their next destination, the company said.

With the flexibility to stop and resume service at any time and monthly billing, the Internet service for RVs enables users to customise their service according to their own travel requirements.

The new flat high-performance service for in-motion use is available for ordering in a few markets, but the deliveries will start in December 2022.

Recently, the company announced that its satellite Internet service will soon be available on select aeroplanes with the official launch of Starlink Aviation next year.

According to a report, the company claimed that the service will offer Internet speeds of up to 350mbps to each plane equipped with its Aero Terminal, which it says is fast enough for video calls, online gaming, "and other high data rate activities".

Spotify says Apple is destroying its audiobook store by choking competition

San Francisco, Oct 26 (IANS) Leading music streaming platform Spotify has said that Apple is ruining its audiobook store by "choking competition".

Apple's limitations are harmful to both creators and users, as it continues to prevent Spotify and other applications from offering a seamless user experience, the company said in a blog post.

According to the platform, Apple's restrictions are "far too complicated and confusing," and they change "arbitrarily, making them impossible to interpret."

The market for audiobooks has huge potential for growth and more authors could be discovered by new listeners, but the buying flow the company has been forced into is unnecessarily restricting that possibility.

"Apple continues to dictate what online innovation looks like, doing serious harm to the internet economy, choking competition and the imagination of app developers. Apple has shown time and again that it will not self-regulate and has no real incentive to change," said Daniel Ek, CEO of Spotify.

"With our audiobooks launch, Apple has once again proven just how brazen it is willing to be with its App Store rules, constantly shifting the goalposts to disadvantage their competitors," he added.

Meanwhile, recently, the company announced that it had acquired Dublin-based Kinzen, a global leader in protecting online communities from harmful content.

NASA starts to study UFO mysteries: Heres what that entails

NASA has kicked off a study to help scientists learn more about unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) or UFOs (unidentified flying objects).

Over the course of nine months, the independent study team with 16 members will lay the groundwork for future study on the nature of UAPs for NASA and other organisations, the space agency said in a statement.

The team includes leading scientists, data and AI practitioners, aerospace safety experts, and other experts in their respective fields.

The study will focus solely on unclassified data. A full report containing the team's findings will be released to the public in mid-2023.

"Exploring the unknown in space and the atmosphere is at the heart of who we are at NASA," said Thomas Zurbuchen, associate administrator of the Science Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington, DC.

"Understanding the data we have surrounding unidentified aerial phenomena is critical to helping us draw scientific conclusions about what is happening in our skies. Data is the language of scientists and makes the unexplainable, explainable," he said.

Unidentified aerial phenomena are of interest for both national security and air safety and the study aligns with one of NASA's goals to ensure the safety of aircraft.

Without access to an extensive set of data, it is nearly impossible to verify or explain any observation, thus the focus of the study is to inform NASA what possible data could be collected in the future to scientifically discern the nature of UAP.

"NASA has brought together some of the world's leading scientists, data and artificial intelligence practitioners, aerospace safety experts, all with a specific charge, which is to tell us how to apply the full focus of science and data to UAP," said Daniel Evans, the assistant deputy associate administrator for research at NASA's Science Mission Directorate.

The findings will be released to the public in conjunction with NASA's principles of transparency, openness, and scientific integrity.
