Sony has hiked the price of PlayStation 5 in India: Find the new PS5 price

Sony has raised the price of its latest video gaming console model in India. The PS5 was earlier available for Rs. 49,990 in India, and has now seen a price hike of about 10 percent. Users can purchase the next-gen gaming console with a disk for Rs. 54,990, and the console's digital version will cost Rs. 44,990 on the website.

Meanwhile, the price of PS5 accessories like the PS5 DualSense controller, Pulse 3D headphones, HD Camera, and PS5 DualSense Charging Station will remain the same. Therefore, buyers can get them for ₹5,990, ₹8,590, ₹5,190, and ₹2,590, respectively. The price hike in the PS5 comes days before the launch of God of War Ragnarok, which will go online on November 9.

Ps5

The PS5 video gaming console has two editions- the Standard and the Digital Edition. The main difference is that only the Standard Edition supports physical Blu-ray discs. The digital edition packs 16GB of GDDR6 RAM and has 825GB of internal storage support. An octa-core CPU based on Zen 2 architecture powers the console. The gaming console offers 8K gaming support at up to 120fps. PS5 also supports 4K TV gaming to provide a 120Hz refresh rate. There is HDR TV tech support as well. In addition, Sony's next generation supports Tempest 3D AudioTech, which is said to deliver an immersive gaming experience. The device also comes with a Dual Sense controller to improve haptic feedback.

Earlier this year, Sony increased the price of its PlayStation 5 games console in global markets, including the UK, Europe, Japan, China, Australia, Mexico, and Canada. The company stated that the price hike results from high global inflation rates, including rising interest rates. As a result, the price of the disk drive-equipped version of PS5 increased by 10 percent in Europe from 499.99 euros previously to 549.99 euros ($550.81). In contrast, the price hike was around 6 percent in the UK. The company then said there would be no price increase in the United States. However, it did not say anything about the price rise of PS5 for the Indian market. Alas, it has now increased the prices in the country.

What is Mastodon, and what are its features that Twitter lacks

Now that the self-declared free-speech absolutist, Elon Musk, is in charge of Twitter, many users, sceptical about the platform's leadership and future, are searching for alternatives to the microblogging platform. While Indian Twitter users can look towards Koo, global users have options such as Reddit and Tumblr. However, there's a decentralised, open-source platform that is grabbing a lot of headlines these days - Mastodon. But what is Mastodon? Is it an alternative to Twitter, or its something more? Let's find out.

What is Mastodon?

Mastodon

As mentioned earlier, Mastodon is a free, open-source social media platform founded by Eugen Rochko in 2016. However, what makes Mastodon different from other platforms is that it is decentralised. Rather than being controlled by a board of directors or a tech mogul like Twitter, Mastodon allows users to pick servers or communities that host their data and talk about a particular topic.

A Mastodon server could be about any topic, such as "LBTQ+," "Activism," or others, and is governed by administrators, somewhat like group admins on WhatsApp. While some servers require users to join a waitlist, some are ready to join. What's even more interesting is that any user can request to create a server, called "instances," by submitting a request, giving more control to the users.

In simple words, Mastodon is like Twitter, where users are in better control

Talking about content, the decentralised platform shows text-based "toots" in chronological order, whereas, on Twitter, the algorithm decides and recommends content to users. The toots can be up to 500 characters long, against 280 characters tweets on Twitter. Like the Musk-led microblogging platform, Mastodon users can create their own handles when they join the platform, share media, re-share toots, bookmark them or mark them as favourite.

Here are the features that the platform offers

What if I told you that on Mastodon, you can verify yourself, by yourself, for free...  https://t.co/Jk9TrMp4Pp pic.twitter.com/HtK17oX6SZ

— Mastodon (@joinmastodon) November 5, 2022

When users communicate with each other on Mastodon, they can do so in direct, private and public privacy settings. Like other social media platforms, public toots are visible to everyone, whereas private toots are only visible to followers. While this is a basic idea about what Mastodon is, here are the platform's features, and Twitter doesn't.

1. Edit button - Twitter already has an edit button, but that is only available to the current Blue subscribers.

2. Server-custom emoticons

3. Auto-delete posts option

4. Extended notification bar

5. 500 character limit

6. Advanced post-filter system

7. Content warnings

Additionally, Mastodon allows users to verify themselves for free without paying a monthly fee, which was the case with the old Twitter. With all the features and its decentralised nature, Mastodon does present itself as a worthy Twitter alternative, but some things might bother users.

First, Mastodon does not yet have a vast user base, which might affect users' decision to switch to the platform. Secondly, the server-based structure it works on might be too complicated for some users. Nevertheless, the platform tweeted on Thursday that it got over 2,30,000 users recently and has witnessed a 71% increase in monthly active users.

Samsung Galaxy S23 series to debut in February 2023 with Snapdragon chipset: Report

Samsung Galaxy S series is among the most popular Android smartphones worldwide. Earlier this year, the company revealed the Galaxy S22 Ultra, a hybrid device with the characteristics of a Galaxy S series device and a Galaxy Note device. Even in the last few months of 2022, the Galaxy S22 Ultra remains one of the best Android smartphones. However, that might change in a couple of months.

Samsung Galaxy S23 series to hit the market in February, 2023

S23

The South Korean tech giant is gearing up to release the successor of the Galaxy S22 Ultra, the Galaxy S23 Ultra. As per a new report, Samsung will release the S23 series in February 2023, which could comprise three smartphones, including Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus, and Galaxy S23 Ultra. The Galaxy S22 series also came out in February, 2022.

The report by Chosun claims that Samsung will announce the Galaxy S23 Ultra, along with other devices in the Galaxy S23 series, in the first week of February 2023, and the release date will follow a bit later. In addition, the report also says that the company will hold a physical, in-person event in San Francisco to reveal its next flagship series.

For those catching up, the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event for Galaxy S23 series will be the first in-person event since the Galaxy S20 series came out in 2020. In 2021 and 2022, Samsung released many devices, such as the Galaxy S21 series, Galaxy S22 series, and two iterations of the Galaxy Z Fold & Flip series, but did not conduct an offline event.

Samsung to ship a majority of units with Snapdragon chipset

A report from 9To5Google says that Samsung "won't be using Exynos in a meaningful capacity on the Galaxy S23 series." For years, Samsung shipped a significant number of flagship Galaxy devices with its Exynos chipset. However, since the chipsets could not maintain parity with Snapdragon chips, Samsung seems to have decided to stick to only Snapdragon processors.

In addition, Qualcomm's CFO Akash Palkhiwala had said in an earnings call that "our [Qualcomm's] share from 75% in G S22 goes up to global share in G 23," which is another indication that all the units sold across the globe will feature Snapdragon processors.

Last month, the Galaxy S23 Ultra visited the popular benchmarking platform Geekbench. Its listing revealed that it runs on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, a chipset yet to be released. Along with that, the S23 Ultra featured 8GB of RAM and ran on Android 13. As per the Geekbench scores, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 offers about 15% better performance than the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 but is still not close to Apple's A16 Bionic chipset. We should be getting more concrete details in the days leading up to the launch.

Samsung launches two new air purifiers in India starting at Rs12,990: Here are all the details

Samsung has released two new air purifiers in India. The devices are called Samsung AX32 and AX46 and can remove 99.97% of nano-sized particles, ultrafine dust, allergens and bacteria from the air. Both the air purifiers are IoT enabled, which means they can be controlled via the internet through the Samsung SmartThings app. The air purifiers come at a time when some Indian cities are facing the problem of poor air quality. Here is everything you should know about the Samsung AX32 and AX46.

Samsung’s air purifiers can cover an area of up to 645 square feet

One of the two air purifiers covers a wider area of up to 645 sq ft with the help of Front Air Intake and Three Way Air Flow, which makes them a good choice for master bedrooms, hospital rooms, fitness studios, small classrooms and other spaces. The devices feature a one-button control that enables the purifier and immediately cleans the air.

Apart from the things mentioned above, the devices can also destroy potentially dangerous volatile organic compounds, including formaldehyde. Since the devices are IoT-enabled, users can switch them on, check the air quality and control other features via the Samsung SmartThings app.

The new range of air purifiers also features a multi-layered high-efficiency purification system, including a washable pre-filter, an activated carbon deodorisation filter and a dust-collecting filter. Its dust-collecting filter uses an anti-bacterial zinc oxide material.

Samsung AX32 and AX46 specifications and price

The Samsung AX32 has a clean air delivery rate of 320 cubic metres per hour and a coverage area of 356 square feet. The device weighs 6.9 kilograms and can be placed anywhere in a room. As per the official press release, it costs Rs. 12,990.

On the other hand, the Samsung AX46 has a clean air delivery rate of 467 cubic metres per hour, which is more than the Samsung AX32 and can cover an area of up to 645 square feet. The larger purifier has a laser PM 1.0 sensor and a PM 2.5 filter.

Further, it is equipped with a 4-colour level indicator. Although the purifier is slightly heavy, it has four wheels, making it easier to carry around large spaces. In India, the price of Samsung AX46 is set at Rs. 32,990.

Both devices come with two modes, Auto Mode and Sleep Mode. While the former senses the air pollution levels and adjusts the power and fan speeds, sleep mode creates a quiet and comfortable sleeping environment. They are available on the company's official website, Samsung exclusive stores, and other leading consumer electronics stores.

YouTube introduces the Go Live Together co-streaming feature for eligible creators: How it works

YouTube has launched a new co-streaming feature for select eligible creator accounts. The new Go Live Together feature will allow some creators to invite guests to join the live stream and go live together. The video-streaming platform announced via a blog post that "this feature is expanding to a limited group of creators. We hope the Go Live Together feature will be available to other creators soon."

How to Go Live Together on YouTube

YouTube

Creators can only use the new feature on their YouTube phone app, not the platform's desktop version. However, creators can schedule a live stream with a guest using their computer and then go live from their phone. Or, they can straightly go live from their mobile device.

They can also switch up their guests on the live stream, but can only allow one person to stream together at once. After inviting a guest, their stream feed will appear above their guest's. Moreover, the company mentioned that the host channel will be responsible for the live content and should ensure that all guests and content on that co-stream comply with all YouTube terms and conditions, including their community guidelines, copyright, and all other applicable policies.

YouTube officially made this announcement for a limited number of creator accounts on their video streaming platform. Although it mentioned in a blog post that it would make the new feature available for other creators soon, the company is yet to reveal any formal date for when it will do the broader rollout.

YouTube seems to be focusing on adding new features to its platform to provide a better user experience and has undergone massive overhaul in the last few weeks.  It recently announced Primetime Channels in the US which will allow users to watch their favorite shows, movies, and sports from various streaming services all in one place on the YouTube application. We could expect more such features to land on YouTube going forward.
