Google Pixel 7a camera details tipped along with other purported specs: Check them out here

Rumors are rife about Google working on a new A-series smartphone under the Pixel 7 family. This purported Pixel 7a phone may still take its sweet time before making a public appearance. However, thanks to the aforementioned rumors and revelation by data miners like Kuba Wojciechowski, we now have a better idea of what to expect from Pixel 7a in terms of camera setup, screen, and charging support.

Google Pixel 7a camera details (Expected)

Google Pixel 7a to come with 90Hz screen, wireless charging, brand new dual rear camera setup - details below  pic.twitter.com/IWy77Kwsmd

— Kuba Wojciechowski (@Za_Raczke) November 11, 2022

Mr. Wojciechowski has found the mention of "Pixel 22 Mid-range," while parsing through the camera driver codes. This reveals two Sony camera sensors — IMX787 and IMX712. Out of the two, IMX787 is tagged "l10_wide," i.e., primary camera, while IMX712 is tagged "l10_UW," suggesting it could be the accompanying ultrawide sensor.

If these turn out to be true, then the main sensor of Pixel 7a is an upgrade over the predecessor and hence could produce better photos.

Something that’s already being rumored is that the Pixel 7a could feature a 90Hz display with FHD+ resolution.

The other new key finding by Mr. Wojciechowski is the Pixel 7a’s support for 5W wireless charging.

That’s pretty much what we know so far about the upcoming Pixel mid-ranger.

Reddit now allows users to mute sub-Reddits

Reddit is the self-proclaimed front page of the internet. The platform has evolved over the years to come to be the way it is today. Most people on Reddit end up joining more sub-Reddits than they can keep up with, and the notifications end up annoying them. However, to the rescue of such users comes the latest feature from the developers of the platform, which would let users mute sub-Reddits that they do not like.

This feature had first been teased in Reddit posts after the user blocking feature was introduced. Reddit, while making the announcement about community muting via a post on r/reddit, made callbacks to these posts, connecting the dots for unsuspecting users.

Reddit mute sub-reddit

As per user – u/enthusiastic-potato, who is a moderator of the official Reddit community, the changes are being made to ensure that the users have more control over the content that they see in their feeds, or as they called it, “their Reddit experience”. To help the users navigate through the changes made to the platform, there was also a support article posted reddithelp.com, containing a step-by-step guide on how to mute a sub-Reddit.

If you decide to mute a community, you will still be able to partake in its activities. You will be able to view posts and comment on them too! However, there is an upper limit on the number of communities that a user can mute. The post said – “Note that you can mute up to 1,000 communities and as many as you'd like per day within that limit.”

This feature is being rolled out first to Android users, followed by the ones using iOS devices. After that, the website would get this update. Reddit has also urged users to reach out to the platform’s support team if they see content that may adversely affect the platform and its users.

Ash Ketchum is finally the worlds greatest Pokemon trainer

The latest episode of Pokemon Ultimate Journeys: The Series which premiered in Japan saw Ash's Pikachu defeat Leon's Charizard to win the Pokemon World Coronation Series Masters Eight Tournament. In case you don't remember Leon or haven't played the recent Pokemon Sword and Shield games (review), Leon is the champion of those games, i.e., the Galar Region.

Pokemon Master – The Dream

The Pokemon World Coronation Series Masters Eight Tournament is a tourney that pits champions from across the world against each other, and several fan favourites, such as Cynthia, Iris, Steven and Lance showed up for the tournament. In beating Leon and winning the tournament, Ash has effectively proven himself as the strongest of all Pokemon League Champions; the dream he set out from Pallet Town to achieve way back in 1997.

If you're someone who has been following the Pokemon series since its inception in 1997, well in our case, the early 2000s, then you most certainly know how much of a big deal this is for Ash. Ash has historically had tough runs in most of the previous Leagues he's participated in, and it was only in 2019 when he beat Gladion to become the Alolan Champion that he won his first ever League. That was essentially what got him his ticket to the Master's Eight tournaments as well.

Pokemon Masters Ash Ketchum

What's next for Pokemon and Ash?

Ash may have won it all for now, but with the new Pokemon games, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet just around the corner, Ash will certainly be having a lot more adventures. With a huge feather in his cap this time around, it will certainly be interesting to see how folks from the new region will react to Ash. Speaking of which, Ash will have a whole new region to explore, the Paldea region, and all of its new and unique Pokemon to encounter.

We've certainly made a lot of fun of Ash in the past for his questionable choices in the series, but he's certainly proven himself this time around. Now all we need to know is the secret to his eternal youth.

On World Pneumonia Day, new technologies are helping save lives

Today is World Pneumonia Day, throwing light on a respiratory condition that’s threatening to get more acute in a world with the increasing pollution, among other things.

In medical terms, pneumonia is a form of respiratory ailment, an infection caused in the air sacs of the lungs due to various reasons. The World Health Organization blames pneumonia as the number one cause of infectious deaths in children worldwide.

According to reports, just in 2019 alone, pneumonia claimed the lives of 2.5 million, including 672,000 children. That was before the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic kicked in, which further worsened the global respiratory health situation as we all know. As a result, the estimated number of deaths from respiratory infections like pneumonia, including COVID-19, was 6 million in 2021.

Suffice to say that pneumonia is one of the most challenging respiratory conditions that humanity needs to find a way to eliminate. How is technology helping clinicians and medical researchers help reduce pneumonia-related deaths in the world?

Pneumoscope - an intelligent stethoscope

Back in November 2020, Swiss-made Pneumoscope debuted at the Geneva Health Forum – it’s an intelligent stethoscope that can diagnose pneumonia in as little as seven minutes. This pneumonia-hunting smart stethoscope is aimed at medical practitioners in low-and-middle-income countries, according to researchers.

The current Pneumoscope prototype can diagnose in just seven minutes common forms of pneumonia, one of the leading causes of death for children under the age of five, and we hope to see such new technological advancements help in the early diagnosis of pneumonia to reduce fatalities in the long term.

Sound-based AI diagnosis of pneumonia

Imagine a device running an AI algorithm trained on identifying the subtle acoustic differences of breathing through a pneumonia-infected lung versus a normal lung, for the immediate identification of pneumonia and saving lives.

That’s exactly what the Pneumonia Etiology Research for Child Health study or PERCH, a project funded by The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is currently developing across seven countries throughout Africa and Asia.

Using digital stethoscopes to record chest sounds from children hospitalized with life-threatening pneumonia, audio signals are uploaded online and studied by co-investigators at The Johns Hopkins School of Public Health International Vaccine Access Center and the Johns Hopkins University Engineering Department. They’re in turn helping build AI algorithms that can interpret these sounds and therefore accurately diagnose childhood respiratory illness.
