Next-gen Google Pixel smartphone details have leaked: Find out the purported specs

Google’s Pixel 7 series was launched in October. Within a month of the launch, the next-generation of the Pixel has already leaked. According to a report, the next-gen Google Pixel smartphones have been found in publicly-available source codes. Both devices have been codenamed after breeds of dogs, with the Pixel seemingly codenamed “Shiba,” and the Pixel 7 Pro is called the “Husky.”

The codes were found by WinFuture writer Roland Quandt, who found the nicknames within and that they run on Android 14. The report also shows that the Mountain View-based giant has also given the next Pixels a dessert-inspired nickname, “Upside Down Cake.” Both the “Husky” and “Shiba” Pixel devices have also been found to run on a chip codenamed “Zuma,” which is said to be the successor to Google’s Tensor G2 chip.

Pixel 8 (Pro)? Google has two new devices in the works codenamed "Husky" and "Shiba". Both have a new SoC codenamed "Zuma", plenty of RAM and proper high res screens. https://t.co/D90qXLqqNx #Pixel8 #Pixel8Pro

— Roland Quandt (@rquandt) November 9, 2022

In terms of specifications, the report shows “Shiba” with a 2268 x 1080p resolution display, which is close to the Google Pixel 7’s 2400 x 1080p display, but the ‘Shiba’ smartphone is said to have 12GB of RAM, higher than the Pixel 7’s 8GB RAM. The “Husky” also seems to have 12GB of RAM, which is the same as the Google Pixel 7 Pro’s RAM. The display resolution, however, is slightly lower than the Pixel 7 Pro at 2822 x 1344p resolution. The Pixle 7 Pro has a resolution of 3120 x 1440p.

The “Zuma” chip also seems to include the Samsung G5300 5G modem that the current Google Tensor G2 also uses. Now, the listing doesn’t necessarily mean that we are seeing the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro for the first time. The listing could also be for a possible Google Pixel 7A and Pixel 7A XL/ Pro.

Google launched the Pixel 7 series including the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro in India and globally on October 6 this year. Both the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will come with Google’s Tensor G2 chipset. The smartphones were the first time Google launched its flagship Pixel series since the Pixel 3 series in 2018.

Tesla offers its proprietary charger as NACS open standard: Why it matters

It seems like the United States of America, Canada, and Mexico are set to get their own EC charging standard as Tesla is opening up the gates to its technology, offering its proprietary connector as the North American Charging Standard.

Even though the company’s co-founder, Elon Musk, is caught up in Twitter business, and that could have some ramifications on Tesla, the latter’s new initiative could garner positive responses, especially from electric vehicle industry.

Tesla

As stated in the release published on their official blog, Tesla gave their rationale behind this change. They wrote, “In pursuit of our mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy, today we are opening our EV connector design to the world. We invite charging network operators and vehicle manufacturers to put the Tesla charging connector and charge port, now called the North American Charging Standard (NACS), on their equipment and vehicles.”

The design files of the charging connector were also published for download as a part of this announcement. From the numbers published in the release, it was stated that the number of charging stations fitted with NACS, are much higher than the ones with CCS (Combined Charging System). The company also published images comparing the two chargers, illustrating the differences between what the chargers look like now, and what could they potentially look like if things go ahead!

Tesla

This move could potentially put an end to the disparity between different charging connectors being fitted into the EVs being offered by several brands in the region. Additionally, if and when, Tesla moves to markets like India, this move could be seen as a great precedent by the auto manufacturers as we look to cut down on emissions and waste as a whole.

How to easily discern Actually verified and Paid for verification Twitter accounts using the Eight Dollars extension

Elon Musk’s $ 7.99-a-month Twitter Blue subscription push has been chaotic. As it offers a blue checkmark to the new paid subscribers, there has been a torrent of fake Twitter accounts with a blue tick created as fun pranks or to disseminate misinformation. Now, even though there’s a way to discern the paid-for verification accounts from the actually verified ones, the official solution from Twitter isn’t so quickly accessible. That is where the new extension/add-on by Will Seagar and Walter Lim comes in handy.

The extension is funnily named Eight Dollars, and it is currently supported by Google Chrome, Edge, and Firefox. Soon, it will be compatible with other browsers like Safari too. Here, we’ll see how it works on Chromium browsers like Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome. But first, let’s understand how to check whether an account has paid for verification or not.

How to see who paid for the blue tick on Twitter

Twitter Blue

Go to any account with a verified tick mark, tap on the tick and you will see either of the following:

This account is verified because it’s notable in government, news, entertainment, or other designated category. This account is verified because it’s subscribed to Twitter Blue.

The former accounts are also showing an Official tag, for now. However, this is visible only in selected places like the profile page, for example.

How to install and use the Eight Dollars extension on Chrome

Digit Twitter

Eight Dollars extension is available on Chrome Web Store and Firefox Add-ons store. Just install it and ensure you have it enabled.

Open the Twitter website on your browser and you will see Actually Verified and Paid for Verification badges alongside the Twitter handles at all places wherever the tick would appear.

Now, for some reason, if you want to install the extension manually, follow the instructions on the developer's GitHub page.

Google Pixel 7a camera details tipped along with other purported specs: Check them out here

Rumors are rife about Google working on a new A-series smartphone under the Pixel 7 family. This purported Pixel 7a phone may still take its sweet time before making a public appearance. However, thanks to the aforementioned rumors and revelation by data miners like Kuba Wojciechowski, we now have a better idea of what to expect from Pixel 7a in terms of camera setup, screen, and charging support.

Google Pixel 7a camera details (Expected)

Google Pixel 7a to come with 90Hz screen, wireless charging, brand new dual rear camera setup - details below  pic.twitter.com/IWy77Kwsmd

— Kuba Wojciechowski (@Za_Raczke) November 11, 2022

Mr. Wojciechowski has found the mention of "Pixel 22 Mid-range," while parsing through the camera driver codes. This reveals two Sony camera sensors — IMX787 and IMX712. Out of the two, IMX787 is tagged "l10_wide," i.e., primary camera, while IMX712 is tagged "l10_UW," suggesting it could be the accompanying ultrawide sensor.

If these turn out to be true, then the main sensor of Pixel 7a is an upgrade over the predecessor and hence could produce better photos.

Other Google Pixel 7a specs (Expected)

Pixel 6a

Something that’s already being rumored is that the Pixel 7a could feature a 90Hz display with FHD+ resolution.

The other new key finding by Mr. Wojciechowski is the Pixel 7a’s support for 5W wireless charging.

That’s pretty much what we know so far about the upcoming Pixel mid-ranger.

Reddit now allows users to mute sub-Reddits

Reddit is the self-proclaimed front page of the internet. The platform has evolved over the years to come to be the way it is today. Most people on Reddit end up joining more sub-Reddits than they can keep up with, and the notifications end up annoying them. However, to the rescue of such users comes the latest feature from the developers of the platform, which would let users mute sub-Reddits that they do not like.

This feature had first been teased in Reddit posts after the user blocking feature was introduced. Reddit, while making the announcement about community muting via a post on r/reddit, made callbacks to these posts, connecting the dots for unsuspecting users.

Reddit mute sub-reddit

As per user – u/enthusiastic-potato, who is a moderator of the official Reddit community, the changes are being made to ensure that the users have more control over the content that they see in their feeds, or as they called it, “their Reddit experience”. To help the users navigate through the changes made to the platform, there was also a support article posted reddithelp.com, containing a step-by-step guide on how to mute a sub-Reddit.

If you decide to mute a community, you will still be able to partake in its activities. You will be able to view posts and comment on them too! However, there is an upper limit on the number of communities that a user can mute. The post said – “Note that you can mute up to 1,000 communities and as many as you'd like per day within that limit.”

This feature is being rolled out first to Android users, followed by the ones using iOS devices. After that, the website would get this update. Reddit has also urged users to reach out to the platform’s support team if they see content that may adversely affect the platform and its users.
