New DoT rule for Jio, Airtel, VI, and other telecom operators aimed at countering SIM swap fraud: Know details
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has come up with a new SMS rule that could mitigate a prevailing SIM swap fraud in the market. Let’s learn what this SIM fraud is and how the new DoT rule will cripple that.
New SIM rule to counter SIM swap fraud: What is being mandated?Once the telecom operator gets a request to change a SIM number, they will have to intimate the customer about receiving the said request.
Then the customer has to confirm the request via an IVRS call. This is to ensure it’s been initiated by the authorized holder or owner of the SIM.
Now, if you fail to prove the same or the request gets rejected by the customer, the telecom operator will have to stop the SIM upgrade process right away.
This new process is set in motion to prevent nefarious actors from gaining access to your mobile number and OTP. In case you’re wondering how? Please read on.
SIM swap fraud: How is it carried out?As you know mobile numbers are used for double-factor authentication. You receive OTPs for several data-sensitive transactions. And if somebody gets access to your mobile number and therefore the OTPs that you receive on it, then that can be a grave issue.
Apparently, scammers have been duping telecom brands by requesting duplicate SIMs for mobile numbers whose owners would be somebody else altogether. When they get a duplicate SIM card, they use that unauthorized access to take out funds in the account or perform other fraudulent activities.
Let’s hope this new SIM rule puts an end to this.

Samsung Galaxy S23 will reportedly have an overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC
Samsung was suspiciously missing from the partner list shared by Qualcomm at the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 launch event. However, as most observers must have suspected, it is being reported that Galaxy S23 will in fact come with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. But, it won’t be the regular variant but an “high-frequency version”. The news comes from tipster Ice Universe. Here’s what he says:
Breaking! The best moment for European users has arrived. The European version of the Samsung Galaxy S23 series is confirmed to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen2, and it is a high-frequency version exclusive to Samsung. Please enjoy it. pic.twitter.com/w6DqCdH30b
— Ice universe (@UniverseIce) November 16, 2022So, the exclusive over-powered Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will be allotted to the Samung Galaxy S23 that will be sold in the European market. We can also see a screenshot of the Samsung Galaxy S23’s Geekbench performance.
The device has scored 1504 points in the single-core test and 4580 score in multi-cores test.
The image shared by Ice Universe also reveals a few other key details of the Galaxy S23 in testing.
For one, the Galaxy S23 is shown to be running on Android 13 and has a RAM memory of 6.94 GB.
The underlying chip has got a prime core running at 3.36GHz. It is accompanied by 4 performance cores clocked at 2.80GHz, and 3 efficiency cores capped at 2.02GHz frequency.
Meanwhile, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 core structure announced by Qualcomm includes a prime core (Cortex X3) @3.2GHz, four performance cores @2.8GHz, and three efficiency cores @2.0GHz.
So, the prime core is running at a slightly boosted frequency but it isn’t faster by a big margin. So, we don’t how much of a real-world gain it would offer to the Samsung Galaxy S23 buyers in Europe or whichever market this particular variant will be sold in.
Also, needless to say, we are still some time away from the Galaxy S23 launch and the model in question could very well be a prototype.

Warzone 20s Gulag is one tough cookie to crack: Heres everything you need to know
As reported earlier, Call of Duty; Warzone 2.0 is now here and there are a ton of new modes and features for players to sink their teeth into. One of these features is the new Gulag 2.0 mode. Unlike its predecessor, the revamped Gulag will see changes in gameplay and how players approach the experience. For one, Activision has seen fit to give players the choice between a PvP experience as well as a PvE mode. This essentially forces gamers to adjust their styles and tactics when dealing with AI or player-controlled characters.
Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0’s Gulag 2.0 comes with new gameplay modesLet’s get the basics out of the way. The new Gulag 2.0 is a small-scale arena that will force players into a more aggressive and ‘meaner’ gameplay style. Being restricted to such a small arena just means that players are kind of forced into more desperate situations and adopt a more ‘kill or be killed’ style. As you’re dropped into the map, you will notice that there are two spawn points divided by a basic obstacle that acts as a barrier between you and the enemy. That’s pretty much all you need to know. You’re dropped into the map and have to fight your way out. You’ll be transported to the Gulag after your first death in the base battle royale.
Do keep in mind that you will be paired with another player who faced the same fate as you did. Again, in a PvP situation, you will be tasked with eliminating the opposing team. You will receive a predefined loadout weapon like a Pistol or a Shotgun, a Lethal Grenade, and a Tactical Grenade. We assume more weapons will be added after launch. You can also choose to skip the PvP mode and focus on taking out The Jailer. An AI-controlled NPD, The Jailer will spawn in the middle of the Gular looking to take names and kick some ass. He comes with more hit points and packs quite a minigun punch and will require players to use the proximity chat feature to take him down. Once the Jailer is defeated, all four players will be teleported back to the main battle royale.
Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 is out now.
