NASAs James Webb Telescope clicks image of a fiery hourglass in space

NASA’s James Webb Telescope has been treating us with stunning visuals from space since its deployment in December 2021. In its latest treat, it has signalled back images of a fiery hourglass-like structure forming during the process of star formation. These new images, as per the experts at NASA, would provide new insights into the process of the formation of a new star.

The first pictures sent by the James Webb Telescope earlier this year had created a lot of hype in the science community, with NASA going as far as saying that “The dawn of a new era in astronomy has begun…” The images provided and continue to provide an unprecedented insight into sections of space that had not been photographed with such clarity ever before.

Just like poetry in motion

The images in focus right now, have revealed the features of the protostar hidden inside the neck of the hourglass-shaped dark cloud L1527. This feat was achieved by the telescope using its Near Infrared Camera (NIRCam). What worked in favour of the telescope when it attempted to click the pictures was the fact that the clouds in the “Taurus star-forming region” are only shown in infrared light.

The description of the image as given by the folks at the space agency would be like poetry to the ears of a science enthusiast – “The protostar itself is hidden from view within the ‘neck’ of this hourglass shape. An edge-on protoplanetary disc is seen as a dark line across the middle of the neck. Light from the protostar leaks above and below this disc, illuminating cavities within the surrounding gas and dust.”

As per NASA, these images will be instrumental in widening our understanding of the subject of planet formation. In their coverage of the pictures, the researchers gave an in-depth description of the significance of these images in their bid to get a much better understanding of the universe than what they have right now.

iCloud glitch sends users pictures to strangers accounts

Microsoft recently launched the iCloud for Windows app, which allows users to connect their iCloud accounts with the Photos app on their PCs. This app has already developed a glitch and a pretty serious one at that. According to users who have posted on the MacRumors Forum, the glitch sends users pictures to strangers’ accounts.

What is the iCloud for Windows glitch?

Users reported receiving strangers’ pictures in their accounts and also reported that their pictures were not being uploaded to the right accounts. Some users have also reported that they received corrupted videos that showed scan lines on a black screen. These issues were thrown into the limelight as early as November 17, which was just a week after Microsoft launched the new app.

What is the iCloud for Windows app?

The iCloud for Windows app has been created to allow users to consolidate all their content and storage options in one place. This means that content from cameras, OneDrive, and iCloud Photos would all be available in the same app. The main USP of the app is that it lets you access Apple’s iCloud storage, making it convenient for users who own Apple iPhones, but not an Apple laptops.

The photos from different sources are all placed in their own pre-labeled folders for easy identification. However, if you’re using Windows 11, you’ll see all the content in a single gallery-like display.

A user on the MacRumors Forum tested the glitch on multiple devices to ensure that this was not a device-related error. The user utilised a laptop with Windows 10 Pro and two with Windows 11 Pro and experienced the same glitch every time He also tested the glitch on different Apple devices like the Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max, Apple iPhone 11 Pro, and an iPad.

Oppo Find N2 bags 3C certification, could launch with 66W fast wired charging

Oppo released its first foldable smartphone last year, called Oppo Find N. The smartphone features a 7.1-inch primary display, runs on Snapdragon 888 5G chipset, and features a 50MP triple rear camera setup. Although the smartphone was unavailable globally, the company is working on its successor, the Oppo Find N2. As per recent reports, the Oppo Find N2 has bagged a 3C certification. Additionally, the listing on 3C's database has also revealed some key specifications of the smartphone. Here is everything we know about the Oppo Find N2.

Oppo Find N2 could be the fastest-charging foldable phone

Per a TechGoing report, the Oppo Find N2 will offer 66W fast charging. If that is true, Oppo Find N2 could become the fastest-charging foldable smartphone. Currently, the most popular foldable smartphone in the world, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, supports 25W wired charging. Per another report, the Oppo Find N2 may be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, the same chipset that powers Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4.

The flagship chipset could be combined with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. As far as the display is concerned, the company might stick with the current shape and size, fitting a 120Hz display in the same aspect ratio. Last but not least, the smartphone is expected to run on ColorOS 13, based on Android 13.

Interestingly, known tipster Digital Chat Station has claimed that Oppo will release two versions of the smartphone - one that is foldable and the other that is flippable. Naturally, the regular book-style foldable smartphone should be called the Oppo Find N2, and the flippable model should be called the Oppo Find N2 Flip, which the tipster also mentioned.

WhatsApp could soon let you make calls on your desktop

A recent report by WABetainfo states that Whatsapp is working on a new update that will create two display tabs on its desktop interface - one for chat and the other for calls. Users will be able to view their call history and go through the basic details of the same. WhatsApp has also recently been in the news for new features such as polls in groups and personal chats, along with its new lock screen feature for its desktop app.

Can you make calls on Whatsapp Desktop?

The integration of the calls tab on the desktop app also indicates that users will be able to make calls using their desktops. It is currently unclear whether this means users can make both voice and video calls, but the latter would be a natural progression once the feature is integrated. As a result, we may see Whatsapp enter the video calling space to compete with the likes of Zoom, Google Meets, and Skype.

The calls tab has already been rolled out for beta users and will be available to all users soon. The tab is displayed on opening the desktop version of the app, and on clicking the same, the interface loads a drop-down menu that shows you your call history.

Where does this feature fit into the grand scheme of things?

With Whatsapp all set to release companion mode, this feature will allow users to make calls using a variety of devices. Arguably, this may lead to a more efficient workflow (particularly for those who already rely on Whatsapp for communication) and may improve user experience on the whole.

Companion mode lets you link up to 4 different devices with your Whatsapp account. Though its been a while since this update was announced, there’s no indication on when it will be available for users.
