Whatsapp iOS testers get search by date feature, Android Beta testing for tablets commences

Whatsapp's new update allows beta testers on Android that will allow the application to be run on tablets. Beta testers can log into the tablet version of the application by linking their existing account on their smartphones (the say way one would link an existing account with the Whatsapp Desktop application). Until this update, it was impossible to access Whatsapp on a secondary Android device, but with the brand working on companion mode, this is certainly one of the critical steps in that direction. On a similar note, beta testers on Whatsapp for iOS are now seeing a new feature that lets them find messages based on the dates they were received or set.

According to WABetaInfo, testers who are a part of the app’s beta programme can see a banner announcing the new feature. The banner says “Have an Android tablet? WhatsApp for tablet is available for beta testers.' It is important to note that the banner is only visible to those who have the WhatsApp beta 2.22.25.8 update for Android. Without this, the app will not be compatible with tablets.

WABetaInfo has also indicated that the tablet version of Whatsapp may not have all the features that the smartphone version of the app does. They said “Note that some features may still not be available when installing WhatsApp on your tablet, for example, the ability to share a new status update, live locations, and broadcast lists,”

New features for Whatsapp iOS Beta testers

Apart from announcing the tablet version of the app, WABetaInfo has revealed that beta testers on Whatsapp iOS are gaining access to a brand-new feature that allows them to search for text messages based on the sending or receiving date. To check whether you have access to this feature, all you need to do is click the search icon and then select the calendar icon that appears alongside. In case the calendar icon is not visible, it means that you do not have access to the feature. This new feature is available on WhatsApp version 22.24.0.77.

The Samsung Galaxy M04 set to launch for under 10,000

According to industry sources, the Samsung Galaxy M04 will launch soon. The brand has created many teaser posters that indicate that this smartphone’s price will start at under ₹10,000, with a few variants being priced over this mark. There are plenty of unconfirmed speculations stating that the smartphone may be available for ₹8,999, however, since these are alleged prices, one must take this information with a grain of salt. This smartphone is intended to compete with the Realme C series and similarly priced entry-level Redmi smartphones.

Samsung Galaxy M04 specifications

The brand has not revealed the exact specifications of this smartphone, however, the unreleased teaser images do hint at what we can expect. For starters, the phone is expected to offer 8GB RAM. It is believed that this phone will have a 6.5-inch display and an HD+ resolution. Since most entry-level smartphones today are powered by the MediaTek Helio G35 SoC chipset, we may see the same in the Samsung Galaxy M04. This may be in addition to the IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU.

The Samsung Galaxy M04 has been spotted on the Google Play Console listed, where it is written that it will have 3GB RAM. However, this could be the case for one of the variants of the phone, while the teaser may be speaking about a higher-end variant. The smartphone might run on the Android 12 OS and come with the OneUI custom skin.

There are also many rumours stating that the Samung Galaxy M04 will be similar to the Samsung Galaxy A04e, which means that the smartphone may just be equipped with a 13MP primary sensor along with a 2MP depth shooter. The front camera may have a 5MP lens.

As of now, the brand has not confirmed the launch date of this smartphone, but we’re expecting that to happen soon.

Realme 10 Pro+ launched in India: Here are its top 3 features

The Realme 10 Pro+ has officially launched in India, with the brand claiming that this smartphone brings users a flagship-like visual experience. The brand states that it has spent over $15 million in R&D while creating its curved display that’s equipped with three new technologies that enhance the visuals the smartphone can deliver. With the launch announced, let’s take a look at these three new technologies.

Realme 10 Pro+: 2160Hz PWM Dimming

Most users scroll through social media in bed at night, hoping the endless scrolling of dance videos will eventually lull them to sleep. When viewed in dark environments, the screen of a smartphone causes eye strain, which can ultimately lead to health hazards. The 2160Hz PWM Dimming feature is designed to combat exactly this. This feature is claimed to offer 4.5x the improvement dimming when compared to 480Hz PWM DImming (which is a standard feature in plenty of flagship smartphones). It is also 1.7x higher than the IEEE International Lighting Standard of 1250Hz, promising a higher level of eye protection.

Realme 10 Pro+ HyperVision mode

The new smartphone also comes with the brand’s HyperVision mode, which is claimed to boost the colours and make the visual experience better. It also enhances the dynamic range of images and videos, making the darker sections even darker, and the brighter ones even brighter. This should have a significant impact on one’s content viewing experience.

Realme 10 Pro+ Curved display with thin bottom bezels

The Realme 10 Pro+ has a curved display with extremely thin bottom bezels to bring users the largest possible curved screen. To achieve this, the brand has used COP Ultra, which is an advanced packaging technology, to ensure that the bottom bezel is no thicker than 2.33-mm. This is believed to be thinner than the bezels you see on flagship smartphones that come with curved displays.

Google Play Store Updates bring new download progress bubbles and archives

Google has announced new updates for the Google Play Store, and this will bring a few key changes to how the app functions. Google has also recently announced new updates for Android, bringing new features to smartphones, TV, and the Wear OS. Let’s take a look at what users can expect to see in the updated version of the Google Play Store.

Download progress bubble

Typically, when you download an app or game on the Google Play Store, the only way of knowing how far the download has progressed is by checking the notifications bar. Now, Google has decided to make the user experience on that front a little better by introducing a download progress bubble that will show how much you have to wait before you can start playing that game. The progress bubble will be displayed at the bottom of the screen, as indicated by the promotional images released. However, you can move it to other parts of the screen by dragging it, or dismiss it if you don’t want to watch numbers move.

Android App Archiving

Android app archiving had been announced as a part of November’s Google System Updates. This feature helps users save space on their smartphones. What it does is that it allows users to uninstall apps they rarely use, while still saving all their user data in case they want to install the app again in the future. The saves the hassle of signing in, re-customising settings, or replaying older levels of games just to reach the one you quit on.

The feature has not been launched yet, and we may see it in December along with the Download Progress Bubble update. Once the feature is enabled, it replaces the install button next to an uninstalled app with a button saying “Restore” indicating that your saved data on the app will be returned to you. Do note that at this point, you’re basically giving apps permission to store your data for indefinite amounts of time and who knows what can of worms will open.

How will the DigiYatra app revolutionise air travel

The Government of India has launched a new app known as DigiYatra, which aims to offer a seamless process for all air passengers at the airport. As of now, the app works at airports in Delhi, Varanasi, and Bangalore. DigiYatra is based on facial recognition technology, and the data that will be shared by passengers will be archived with proper encryption for safety. This will be done in a decentralised manner.

"DigiYatra, a biometric enabled seamless travel experience based on facial recognition technology aims to provide a new digital experience for air travellers in India," announced the Ministry of Civil Aviation on Twitter.

What is the DigiYatra app?

The DigiYatra app is based on biometric technology and aims on digitising the experience of checking in at the airport, along with other processes that travellers need to go through. It facilitates a paperless entry at the airport, which means that travellers no longer have to print out tickets or carry boarding passes. The facial recognition system will be used at the security points in the airport, and this system has currently been installed at airports in Varanasi, Delhi, and Bangalore.

To use the DigiYatra app, users have to register themselves by using their Aadhar Card and adding an image of themselves. The boarding pass for the flight can be scanned via the app, and then used to enter the flight. The passenger will have to head to the e-gate and allow the barcode on the boarding pass to be scanned. This, along with the facial recognition system at the gate will help verify the identity of the passenger.

The DigiYatra represents a new step towards digitising aspects of the Indian economy, with the process starting with digital currency, and now moving onto everyday activities. It should be able to enhance security at airports and cut down on the paper used on a daily basis.

Motorola X40 Pro 5K renders give us a fair idea of what to expect

The Motorola X40 Pro, which is marketed as the Motorola Edge 40 Pro, is believed to launch in December 2022. OnLeaks has published 5K renders of this smartphone, along with a 360-degree video that shows off the design (as well as some specification details) quite neatly. The renders show the rear and front panels of the phone and indicate that we can expect a few design changes in this model.

Motorola X40 Pro design

OnLeaks and MySmartPrice have gotten together to share high-quality renders of the Motorola X40 Pro, and these indicate the new design changes we’ll see in the upcoming smartphone. On the rear panel, we can see a square-shaped camera module.  The module houses three camera lenses along with an LED flash. The brand logo is placed at the centre of the rear panel.

Coming to the front panel, we can see a curved display (which is rumoured to measure 6.67 inches). The hole-punch cutout for the front camera is right at the centre top of the display. The volume rocker and power button are placed on the right spine of the smartphone. The bottom of the phone has a microphone cutout and a speaker grille. Additionally, we can see cutouts at the top edge of the smartphone too, and these may house the secondary microphone or speaker.

The Motorola X40 Pro measures 161.3 x 73.9 x 8.6-mm, while the bump on the camera module is 10.8-mm thick. We can expect to see a glass back on the phone, along with a metal frame (as opposed to the plastic frame the Motorola X30 Pro came with).

Motorola X40 Pro Specifications

The Motorola X40 Pro will have a 6.67-inch OLED display with a 165Hz refresh rate. The display may have a Full HD+ resolution and an HDR10+ certification. The triple camera setup will sport a 50MP primary sensor, a 50MP ultrawide camera, and a 12MP telephoto camera. The smartphone will also have a 60MP front selfie.

Motorola’s flagship phone is rumoured to run on the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. The base model of this smartphone may offer 8GB RAM along with 128GB storage, while the second model will offer 12GB RAM and 256GB storage.

Motorola X40 Pro will have an IP68 rating, which means it will be dust and water-resistant. It will have a 5000mAh battery capacity with 68W fast charging support. It will run on MyUX 4.0, which is based on Android 13.
