YouTube will let you use text prompts to search within videos: Here is how it works

Google announced a new Youtube feature at the Google for India 2022 event that lets users input text prompts to search for specific moments in a video. When you search for a topic on Google and are presented with a related video, you must watch the entire video to reach the point with the information you’re looking for. Google is now trying to simplify this experience by letting users search within the videos via text prompts.

How does Youtube’s Search in Video feature work?

Google Search currently displays YouTube videos with highlighted sections that show the part of the video that correlates with your search query. These key moments may not always give you all the answers you’re looking for, which is where the new ‘search in video’ comes into play. On selecting the feature, you need to enter a text prompt related to what you’re looking for, and the video will start playing from the desired moment.

This feature has not started rolling out to all users yet but will be done soon.

Gmail to soon get end-to-end encryption: How it will work

Google has announced that it will soon upgrade its popular emailing service, Gmail to include end-to-end encryption. The feature currently remains in beta-testing and is available only for Google Workspace, Education Standard, Education Plus and Enterprise Plus which means only normal education accounts.

Google has announced that users can sign up for Gmail client-side encryption until January 20, 2022.

For users, this means that user data and attachment is encrypted and shall remain unreadable to anyone outside the sender and receiver/s which means that even Google cannot access it.

This feature will ensure that the email is encrypted by the sender which can be decrypted only by the receiver on their own device.

It is important to note here that Gmail is not the first platform owned by Google to have end-to-end encryption. It is already available on Google Meet, Sheets, Slides, Docs, Google Drive and Google Calendar. Out of all of these it is only in Calendar that it is available in beta version.

Google has also clarified that it will only be the email’s body and attachments which will include images that will be encrypted. But whatever is in the header of the email including timestamps, subject and the recipient list will not be encrypted.

Even if you have applied for the beta version of the end-to-end encryption, it is likely that it will not be available by default. To enable it, users will have to go to Admin Console and then to Security wherein they will find Access and Data Control under which you can toggle the notification of Client-side encryption.

“In an upcoming release” as said by Google, client-side encryption will be brought to the Gmail applications in Android and iOS as well.

Assassins Creed Codename Jade gameplay leaked online: Details

A video which reportedly shows the gameplay of Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade has surfaced online. The leaked footage shows that that game is placed in China. It is slated by Ubisoft as a “AAA RPG”, an RPG action-adventure game.   The leaked gameplay reflects improved graphics and appears to use on-screen touch controls, as compared to the previous Assassin’s Creed games. It will also feature all the iconic gameplay of the franchise.

VGC recently shared the news of the leak about this game, which is said to be developed by Tencent along with Ubisoft. However, no comments have come from the company so far. It remains uncertain as to when the game shall be released. This will be the first open-world Assassin’s Creed game made exclusively for mobile devices. VGC also reports that the game will allow players to create their own characters.

Ubisoft had earlier confirmed the release of the next two flagship Assassin’s Creed games, codenamed Red and Hexe, after next year’s Assassin’s Creed Mirage. These will be released as a part of the Infinity franchise hub.

Red is being developed by Ubisoft Quebec and is being helmed by the same creative director and is set in Feudal Japan. It is unlikely to be a 2024 game as Ubisoft calls it the “period three” in the Assassin’s Creed series.

Hexe, on the other hand, is led by Watch Dogs: Legion fame Clint Hocking as the creative director and is being made by Ubisoft Montreal and Far Cry 2.   Earlier, Ubisoft and Netflix announced their partnership on a new Assassin’s Creed mobile game along with two other mobile titles. These will be made exclusively available to Netflix members globally with no ads or in-house purchases. It is said to be released in 2023 on Netflix itself.

Twitter to ban accounts that only promote other social media websites, among other changes

Twitter has announced that the platform will get rid of accounts that have been created just for promoting other social media platforms, as well as those that have been created just for sharing links. This move will have significant impacts on content shared from social media platforms such as Instagram, Mastodon, Facebook, Tribal, Nostr, Post, and Truth Social. It will, however, allow cross-content posting.

“We recognize that many of our users are active on other social media platforms. However, we will no longer allow free promotion of certain social media platforms on Twitter.” said Twitter Support.

Twitter has also removed labels that promote smartphones

Twitter has also finally done away with labels that show the device the tweet was posted through. Responding to a user’s comment last month about new Twitter changes, Musk said "And we will finally stop adding what device a tweet was written on (waste of screen space & compute) below every tweet. Literally, no one even knows why we did that ..."

Musk asks users if he should step down

Interestingly, Elon Musk also recently put up a poll asking users whether he should step down from his role at Twitter. “Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll.” he tweeted, basically putting his job on the line. At the time of writing this, a majority of users have tweeted yes, with a 43.3% saying no.
