Truecaller to offer spam protection for WhatsApp calls: Why does it matter

Meta and Truecaller are working together to prevent spam calls on WhatsApp. For those who don't know, Truecaller is a service that is used for caller identification and spam call-blocking methods. Now it’s unclear how this would work; whether spam calls will be actively blocked prior to them reaching a WhatsApp user.

The feature is presently being evaluated in a beta setting, according to Truecaller CEO Alan Mamedi, and it will be made available globally later this month.

In the current times wherein fraudulent calls are ever so increasing, this could be the solution WhatsApp users need.

Mamedi noted that the country with the largest market for the company, India, had seen an increase in spam calls made using WhatsApp. Therefore, it makes sense for Meta and Truecaller to collaborate and solve this issue before it spreads and becomes a major problem for WhatsApp users.

Incidentally, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is also working on AI-based spam call filter. However, this seems to be for regular cellular calls only.

In related news, several citizens have alleged of receiving scam calls from unknown international numbers. These come in both video and voice formats. These numbers carry country codes like Malaysia (+60), Vietnam (+84), Ethiopia (+251), Indonesia (+62), Kenya (+254), etc.

Some spam call examples include:

CS:GO Paris Major 2023: Apeks lead the charts as Day 1 of the Challengers stage comes to a close

Day 1 of the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 packed all the action that the fans could demand from the last Major tournament of the game. There were surprises, upsets, and everything that makes CS:GO the fan-favourite eSport that it is. As we had prefaced in our article yesterday, the first day of the Challengers stage held a lot of importance for the teams as they looked to get off the blocks with their guns blazing. And, while some teams were up to speed right away, the others had to toil hard to get things started.

Paris Major 2023 Challengers stage - Day 1 - Perfect balance of emotions and competition

The first match of the day had FaZe Clan facing off against Monte. At the start of the game, FaZe looked like a shadow of their former selves that had been crowned the Major Champions exactly a year ago. But, as the game went on, they recovered and showed the world that they are here to stay. After staging a comeback against Monte, they were pitted against paiN Gaming, and sealed a 16-12 win. Monte, on the other hand, after having a rough start to their campaign, faced off against Fluxo. There the team that at one point gave FaZe a run for their money, proved their mettle by defeating Fluxo with a convincing 8-16 scoreline in their favour.

Before getting their dreams handed to them on a copper platter by FaZe, paiN gaming, in their first game of the day, had faced off against Fluxo, defeating them 16-2. The other games of the day had G2 defeating TheMongolz 16-11. Complexity twisting GamerLegion’s arms into a 16-11 win, and Grayhound, out of nowhere, defeating Forze by a two-point margin, 14-16 in their favour.

Apeks asked the hopes and dreams of North American CS to sit down as they romped past a rather meak-looking Team Liquid to seal their first win of the Challengers stage. After having a rather eventful run the RMR stages, Ninjas in Pyjamas, trumped over Mouz, winning the game 16-9. The match between OG and ENCE was something that set the tone for the end of the day. OG were thrashed by ENCE, who raced home with a 6-16 win. G2, also added to their tally of wins, by evening out Complexity’s win-to-loss ratio as their game ended 9-16 in G2’s favour.

Doubling down on their win against Team Liquid, Apeks gave us the first flawless map of the tournament, when they defeated Grayhound gaming 16-0. Greyhound’s win, followed by a loss was met with mixed reactions on Twitter as it had a massive impact on the Pick ‘ems of players across the globe, potentially costing them a chance at the Diamond coin. ENCE continued on their run of form, racing home with a 16-9 win against NiP.

At the time of writing, four more matches had been played on effectively the second day of the Challengers stage. We had OG beat MOUZ (11-16), FORZE winning against Team Liquid who have one step already in de_airport, TheMongolz bouncing back to winning ways against GamerLegion, and Monte, registering a 16-8 win against Fluxo.

As it stands, here’s how things look in terms of team standings in the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 –

With two more days to go in the Challengers stage, an surprise wins and upsets being the motto of tournament so far, the lines are rather blurred. However, as it stands, if Apeks, Faze, G3, and ENCE are able to continue their run of form into the coming games, it looks like they are all set to make it past into the Legends stage.

New lithium reserve discovered in India: Heres how that would matter to you

Lithium, the metal that is used in batteries within your electronic gadgets to vehicles (EVs) has been discovered in India (again). The new reserve has been found in Rajasthan and is reportedly so huge that it could fulfil 80% of our lithium demand. Sounds amazing, right? Here are the discovery details and what that means for you and me.

Lithium in Rajasthan: What you need to know

Lithium in Rajasthan

A lithium reserve has been spotted in Degana, Rajasthan, as per the state government. What makes this interesting is the size of this reserve. It is reportedly way bigger than the mine in Raesi, Jammu and Kashmir, which was traced back in February. According to the Geological Survey of India (GIS), the Raesi Reserve has about 5.9 million tonnes of lithium.

The new discovery has been made particularly around Renvat Hill in Degana. Per GIS, this one has more in store and could feed 80 percent of the country’s lithium demand.

Why this Lithium discovery in Rajasthan matters to us? How it could impact the tech industry?

Lithium in Rajasthan

Lithium is a lightweight and soft metal. Its ionized form is capable of converting chemical energy into electrical energy. Due to this property, Lithium-ion is used in rechargeable batteries in mobile phones, laptops, electric vehicles, and a lot more.

Since they are efficient (more energy density than alkaline batteries) and easy to charge, recharge, and dispose of, they are the go-to solution for energy storage and are more eco-friendly than fossil fuels.

Due to these benefits, their global demand is ever-increasing. This includes India which imports Lithium mostly from China, Vietnam and Japan.

However, with these newly found reserves, our country could finally reduce its reliance on foreign markets for lithium. Thereby saving foreign exchange and bolstering our energy security.

Our indigenous battery manufacturing could see a surge and tech brands could source from the local market itself.

Well, at least that’s what we hope to see.

WWDC 23: Apple may not unveil M3 iPad or Mac, just 15-inch MacBook Air

As we gear up for WWDC 23, Apple-related rumour mills are in full swing, and one likelihood is looking more certain by each passing day – M3 chips based iPads and Macs at WWDC 23.

If the rumours are accurate, though, this could indicate it's not the case. It seems that the eagerly awaited M3-powered iPads and Macs from Apple may not be available until 2024.

The eagerly anticipated M3-powered iPads and Macs from Apple might not be available until 2024. A Twitter user going by the handle @Tech_Reve made this claim based on insider information.

Update: No M3 Mac or iPad for this year Due to yield issues with TSMC not being able to supply enough of the M3 to Apple, Apple has delayed the release of the M3 until next year. So there will be no M3 Macs and no M3 iPads this year. pic.twitter.com/faL9l7n53s

At the moment, the 3nm A17 processors used in Apple's iPhone 15 Pro variants are produced by TSMC. The Mac-series "M3" chips, which employ the same 3nm process, are another project they are working on.

Substantial efficiency and speed gains are promised by these chips. Meanwhile, TSMC has reportedly faced some difficulties recently with the 3nm manufacturing process and yeild to meet Apple's demand.

If the allegations are genuine, there won't be a new processor introduced at WWDC 23 that is slated for June 5. Users probably wouldn't voice many complaints, though, because the items already on the market work admirably under the circumstances of today.

Naturally, this also means that a new Mac won't be released. Apple is most likely to launch a 15-inch MacBook Air model featuring an M2 processor, according to some recent news. The battery life of the updated version is anticipated to be be impressive. We'll see.
