Samsung Galaxy A14 4G to ditch Exynos and be about 2000 more affordable than the 5G model

Samsung Galaxy A14 4G is going to launch soon in India. We have the expected launch date and also the likely specs and price tag it could come in with. As per SamInsider, it is reportedly shipping with a MediaTek chip (not Exynos) and could be ₹2000 cheaper than the 5G variant. Here are the complete details.

Samsung Galaxy A14 price and availability (Expected)

Samsung could bring the 4+64GB model of Galaxy A14 4G for ₹13,999 and the 4+128GB variant for ₹14,999.

With launch offers, the price could be even lower.

Also, the source doesn’t seem to think the 6+128GB model is going to come to India.

As for the launch date, the report suspects it could come in this week although the brand is yet to say or hint anything about this.

Samsung Galaxy A14 specs and features (Expected)

Samsung Galaxy A14 recently launched in the Malaysian market and we rely on those specs information here.

On the front, the A14 could be housing a 6.6-inch PLS LCD display with FHD+ resolution and a v-shaped notch.

Within the cutout, you could get a 13MP selfie snapper capable of shooting at 1080p 30fps.

The back of the phone, meanwhile, houses a 50MP main camera, 5MP ultrawide, and a 2MP macro module. Again, the video recording is up to 1080p at 30 frames per second.

Inside the A14, there could be a MediaTek Helio G80 SoC coupled with up to 4+128GB memory. The device could also support expandable storage via a microSD card.

Instagram outage: The Meta app was down again and users react with memes

Instagram was down for the second time in the last 4 days. It was a global outage and many users were reportedly affected by this. The Instagram feed, stories and messages section were not accessible. Here are user reactions and memes about it.

Instagram outage: What happened?

Meta spokesperson, Dave Arnold, in a statement to The Verge confirmed the Instagram outage, revealing, “We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing Instagram. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and we apologize for any inconvenience.”

The issue seems to have been fixed at the time of writing this. However, earlier today, I was facing difficulty refreshing the feed, messages weren’t sending, Reels weren’t opening and some reactions weren’t also functioning. Many users across the world have come across similar problems.

Instagram downdetector

The problem pertained to the app only, something which the Downdetector website also points out. The first reports of the outage apparently started appearing around 3:30 AM (IST) and there were about 1,75,000 reports at its peak.

So when something like this happens, you know where people rush to. Yes, Twitter!

Google search engine is unbeatable: We learn that in 2 ways this week

Google search engine is the default search engine for most of us and is therefore the biggest player in the market. Its dominance can’t be easily contested by competitors like Bing and Neeva. The latter learned that the hard way. Here’s what happened:

Neeva Search Engine closes shop

Neeva has announced its closing down its search engine on June 2.

Before we learn about why Neeva had this unfortunate end, you should know the search engine came across a promising alternative to Google search engine because it was ad-free and more privacy-friendly. Also, showed visual elements and human-created information over the top 10 blue links that you see on the Google Search Engine Results Page.

Now, it offered this service behind a paywall. Well, there was a 3-month trial period after which users had to pay $4.95 (~₹410) a month.

Even with the promise of a better search engine UX, it had to convince people to try it. That was possible only if people knew or cared about changing the default search engine on their device browsers.

Google is mostly the default search engine on various browsers or devices because it has eye-watering deals with the device manufacturers like Apple and Samsung (more on this soon).

Also, we underestimate how spoiled we users are. We don’t want to bother with even the few steps and clicks it takes to read “Are you sure you want to change?” and select a different search engine option.

And so it’s like the company’s co-founders Sridhar Ramaswamy and Vivek Raghunathan said in a recent blog post, “Throughout this journey, we’ve discovered that it is one thing to build a search engine and an entirely different thing to convince regular users of the need to switch to a better choice”.

Google retains the default search engine position on Galaxy phones

According to a new WSJ report, Samsung has walked back on its plans to swap the default search engine on its phones. A few weeks back there were rumours of Samsung thinking of using Bing as the default search engine. But fearing the effect it will have on its relationship with Google and the market perception about the whole ordeal made Samsung continue its deal with the top dog in the field.

For the unversed, Google has about 8.5 billion daily searches and covers 86–96% of the worldwide search engine market share (Source: Kinsta). It’s a key source of its revenue and with the potential addition of AI features, the Silicon Valley giant is likely to stand its ground.

Instagram clones Elons app with Metas social media might: Is Twitter in danger

Meta has been known to have been working on a Twitter alternative for some time now. Even those unaware of the same could guess that Zuckerberg’s company would be cooking up something to take on Twitter. Historically, the company has cloned a lot of its competitors and primarily added the key feature(s) of the rival app to Instagram. This time it is going to release an Instagram app for text-based conversations, according to a leaked marketing slide shared by Lia Haberman.

Meta’s been briefing creators on it’s upcoming text-based app — now looking at a possible late June launch. Details are in my newsletter but I’ll list some highlights  pic.twitter.com/KYqqXjrRmD

— Lia Haberman (@liahaberman) May 19, 2023 Instagram’s Twitter alternative: What we know so far

Instagram and Twitter

In her ICYMI newsletter, Ms Haberman says Instagram’s Twitter-like app will be here by the end of June. The company is yet to give it an official name. However internally, it is being called P92 or Barcelona.

You will have to sign in to the new app using your Instagram username and password. Your handle, verification, bio, and followers will automatically migrate from Instagram. Even those whom you have blocked on the main app won’t be here to bother you in this app.

Meta will apparently incorporate a solid moderation policy “equipping you with settings to control who can reply to you and mention your account”.

The UI of the app consists of text posts and threads like Twitter but the heart, comment bubble, and paper plane-shaped share icons are comparable to Instagram.

It is said to support up to 500 characters, along with the ability to attach photos, videos, and links.

Another highlight of this app is that there will be a decentralized facility to connect with people on other similar platforms like Mastodon. You could be looked up and followed on these other decentralized apps thanks to the underlying ActivityPub architecture.

Meta considers this app as a way for creators, public figures, and probably regular users of Instagram to share their interests.

Instagram’s Twitter alternative: Possible strengths and weaknesses

Strengths

1. Meta is a giant in the social media landscape and it can channel its existing userbase into this new Twitter alternative app.

2. Since it’s a new app, Instagram could give it new and unique features and benefits.

Weaknesses

1. Since this is one of the many apps or features the company has to focus on, it might not get the exclusive attention that Twitter gets from its team.

2. This could attract regulatory concerns and restrictions as Meta is behind it.

3. People might not take the new Meta app in good faith or it would turn out to be a dud like Instagram Notes.

Twitter’s problems could be an opportunity for Meta while the growing number of competitors like Mastadon and Bluesky could be a threat to its ambitions.

Should Twitter be worried?

1. For all of the aforementioned strengths and opportunities of Meta, the new Instagram app for text-based conversations is a threat to Twitter.

2. If Meta’s app turns out to be even decent, it could attract Twitter users and many of these users are likely to already have an Instagram account. So the transfer may be seamless.

3. Instagram is already a bigger advertising platform and it could take ad dollars from Twitter.

Now although only time can tell if all of these things turn out as we predict or assume. But, it will be careless of Twitter to ignore the potential threat it has from this Instagram app.

CS:GO Paris Major 2023: GamerLegion and Vitality in the finals of the last CS:GO Major

What a day it was at the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023! After Day 3 of the Champions stage, there were four teams standing. Two teams were sent packing to de_airport while the other two danced away to their hotels celebrating and preparing for the challenge of the Grand Finals. It essentially followed the trend of the tournament so far. Between all of this; there was a spectacular upset and an expected win, which made sure that we have two exciting teams lined up for the finals.

CS:GO Paris Major 2023: Champions Stage - Day 3 - Semifinals open doors for records being broken and new ones being formed; Vitality and GamerLegion in the finals

In the first game of the fourth day of the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 we had Heroic, the tournament favourites, facing off against GamerLegion who had worked hard to make their way to this stage. The first map of the best-of-three series, Anubis, saw Heroic comprehensively beat the underdogs of the match. They won 16-13, setting the hopes high for the fans who had filled up the arena on Sunday.

In a closely contested second map of the series, Inferno, GamerLegion bounced back, beating Heroic 16-14. Now, it was time for the third map of the series, the decider, Mirage. Here’s where GamerLEgion asserted their authority over Heroic. Right from the get-go, they were on a roll, taking the first half 10-5. In the second half, they gave away only one round, closing out the series 2-1 in their favour.

We had the first finalist of Paris Major 2023 – GamerLegion.

Then came the most anticipated game of the evening by the fans in the arena. It was the home team, Vitality, facing off against Apeks, who just like GamerLegion had to work really hard to make it to the semis. And, if wasn’t clear by the hint that I dropped in the introduction, Vitality walked home comfortably, closing out their best-of-three series 2-1.

We have our two finalists – Vitality and GamerLegion.

Paris major 2023 finals schedule

GamerLegion come into this match as the underdogs who have proven their mettle. Vitality have been in to form throughout and will have the support of practically the entire arena coming into this match. Both sides haven’t faced each other in the tournament. However, given the teams that they have taken down on their way to the finals, it is difficult to pick one favourite.

Paris major 2023 schedule

As much as ZywOo would want to win his first Major, dupreeh his fifth, and apEX his second, every member of GameLegion will be putting equal, if not more effort to get their hands on the last CS:GO Major trophy.
