Microsoft Copilot: Maybe 3rd time is the charm for Windows virtual assistants

At the Microsoft Build 2023, Satya Nadella and team unveiled Copilot for Windows. Copilot is a new virtual assistant powered by ChatGPT that is accessible from the Windows 11 taskbar. It is the third Microsoft chatbot after Cortana and Clippy. Yeah, some of you may be too young to remember Clippy. So, now that Copilot is available on Windows, the question we have is — can Copilot do what others couldn’t? That is to last as a chatbot that Windows users live by. Will the third time be the charm for Microsoft virtual assistants?

Let’s see.

Is Copilot the same as Bing Chat on Microsoft Edge?

Well, Microsoft Edge browser users will know of Bing Chat, which is accessible by clicking the (b) icon on the right corner of the top menu bar. For layman's understanding, the Copilot is based on this Bing Chat feature of Edge only and is now baked into Windows. You can tap the Copilot icon on the Windows taskbar with a hexagonal logo. A sidebar opens on the right side and you can access it over all apps and screens you are interacting with.

If you recall, Cortana too had a dedicated button on the Windows 10 taskbar and so, Copilot seems like an advanced Cortana for Windows 11. And if you ask us, what about Clippy, well, Copilot appears to be Clippy on droids. Or dare we say, Clippy unclipped!

While all three virtual assistants were integrated with key Microsoft products and were capable of providing information, answering questions, and completing tasks, Copilot is more reaching and powerful than the rest two.

Use of Copilot on Windows

1. You can ask questions and clear your doubts with Copilot.

2. You can ask it to summarize copied text (even blocks of them), files (just drop the and ask it to sum up), and the content that’s on the app/window you are presently on.

3. Since it is integrated into Windows, you can get Copilot to change settings. Say, ask Copilot to adjust the Focus settings or turn on Dark Mode, and it will do that in seconds.

Microsoft’s head of Windows and devices, Mr Panos Panay says “It makes every user a power user.” We hope it does.

Sounds crazy, but iPhone 16 Pro Maxs screen may be largest ever in an iPhone

As Apple is preparing for an extravagant WWDC event this year with announcements for iOS 17, watchOS 10, 15 inch-MacBook Air and the highly anticipated mixed reality headset. And while the Cupertino giant has yet to even release the iPhone 15 series later this year, rumour mills are already abuzz with some insane claims about the iPhone 16 Pro Max and how it’s going to be the largest screen iPhone ever.

In case you didn’t know, iPhone 16 related rumours have been floating around the market for some time now, alleging everything from how the iPhone 16 is set to launch in 2024’s fall and the designs are impressively larger than that of iPhone 14 or leaks suggesting the size for iPhone 15.

While Apple is currently planning the launch of the iPhone 15 Pro Max model later this year, however, there are speculations about the brand shifting to Ultra model for iPhone 16 instead of iPhone 16 Pro Max. Apple has done this before with its Apple watch line up as well hence making the change imminent.

iPhone 16 Pro Max

The CAD-based renders for iPhone Pro 16 Max/Ultra suggest that the screen will be taller measuring 6.9 inches while getting slightly wider eliminating the trouble of holding the cell phone in discomfort which is quite prevalent for iPhone 14 model. The shift in the frame size suggested by the leaks measures iPhone 15 Pro Max's width at 76.7 mm, while allegedly the iPhone 16 Pro Max/Ultra will measure 77.2 mm. In addition, the former holds a height range of 159.8 mm while iPhone 16 Pro Max/Ultra is anticipated to be 165 mm tall. That is an extraordinary design change for Apple’s design style.

Having spoken about the changes in the iPhone 16 lineup, the iPhone 16 Pro might also see a change in size as the device is expected to flaunt a periscope zoom lens similar to iPhone 15 Pro Max. Hence, the size change in the iPhone 16 model evokes a lot of questions. Well, we still have a year to identify more leaks and draw parallels once the confirmed specifications of iPhone 15 series are out this fall.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be faster than Apples M-series chips, leaks claim

The internet has been flooded with rumours about the latest and greatest processor from Snapdragon, set to hit us with another wave of ground-breaking technology. The latest findings about an upcoming iteration of a Snapdragon SoC has caught everyone’s imagination recently – the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.

In a way it seems remarkable that we’re already speculating about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip before Qualcomm has even released Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the most likely successor to current flagship level Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. But that’s the kind of world we’re living in at the moment.

The rumoured Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC is expected to introduce a new and exciting set of technological innovations that are slated to lay the grounds for more efficient and powerful Android and Windows devices, something along the lines of Apple’s M-series of processors.

Also read: Qualcomm and MediaTek under threat by this change in ARM licensing policy

Let’s take a look at what the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 can do, while we are still waiting for Gen 3 to hit the market. That’s right, Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 already!

What’s expected of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip?

Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 with SM87505 model number is expected to use Nuvia CPU technology, said the tipster Digital Chat Station. In addition the Snapdragon smartphone processors are to run on a Nuvia CPU.

Snapdragon 8 Gen

Nuvia was acquired by Qualcomm in January 2021. Former Apple engineers who intended to apply their skills to Arm-based system-on-chips (SoCs) for servers created the processing firm. A few months later, Qualcomm released a thorough update on its plans for SoCs based on the Nuvia technology, and it openly stated that it hoped to compete with the Apple M1 in the market for always-connected PCs (ACPCs) with a processor.

“The addition of NUVIA CPUs to Qualcomm Technologies’ already leading mobile graphics processing unit (GPU), AI engine, DSP and dedicated multimedia accelerators will further extend the leadership of Qualcomm Snapdragon platforms, and positions Snapdragon as the preferred platform for the future of connected computing,” suggested the released report.

Also read: Motorola Edge 40 vs OnePlus 11R vs Pixel 7a: Which phone is best?

The tipster has also suggested that we can anticipate a release for the processors in late 2024 for 2025’s phones wherein the phone processors will have a 2+6 CPU core layout. So we can anticipate that Qualcomm has brought back Snapdragon 845’s two-tier architecture after a line-up of three-tier architecture from Snapdragon 855 to the current Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and prolly SD 8 Gen 3 which held big core + medium core (s) + small core (s) design.

Now some findings and reports about the upcoming iteration of Snapdragon SoCs, is said to be powerful enough that it can potentially outperform Apple’s latest M2 processors. If the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is anywhere close to what it is being touted to be, it will make for a really interesting introduction in the Android and PC market, bringing along devices that are more powerful and efficient than ever!
