Huawei P30 patent reveals dual-tone design, could be announced alongside Mate 30

Huawei P30 is on its way to receive two new colour options. The European Patent Office has just received a couple of new colour options for the Huawei P30. One is almost a gradient, and the other is reminiscent of the “Panda” version of Google Pixel 2 XL. The new Huawei P30 could be released alongside the Huawei Mate 30 series next month.

The gradient version appears to be a variation of the Huawei P30’s Breathing Crystal variant. On looking closely, a separate panel can be seen on the top third of the back. However, the effect is much more subtle than the other variant. We can easily spot a dual-tone treatment on the “Panda” Huawei P30. It has a black top, and white bottom on two-thirds of the rear panel.

The patents were filed back in May, before the whole Huawei controversy with the US government took place. They were published a few days ago, which suggests that Huawei could be looking to release them very soon, possibly alongside the Huawei Mate 30 series at IFA 2019.

It is not clear if the Huawei P30 Pro will get the new colours as well. However, at IFA 2018, Huawei released four new colour options for the Huawei P20 Pro.

The upcoming Huawei Mate 30 series is expected to ship the same camera that is used on the P30 Pro, which has a quad camera setup. The Huawei P30 Pro features a 40 MP main sensor that has an f/1.6 aperture lens, an 8MP periscope camera with  f/3.4 aperture, a 20MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture and a TOF 3D sensor. However, according to a report, the Mate 30 Pro could feature two custom-made 40MP cameras on the back, instead of just one. The smartphone is most likely to use Huawei’s patented RYYB pixel layout.

The Vivo Z1X is touted to be a mid-range smartphone with a 48MP primary sensor for its triple-rear camera setup. As mentioned, we previously reported that the smartphone would be priced under Rs 20,000 in the country. There’s also a possibility that the Vivo Z5 that the company recently launched in China could be rebranded as the Vivo Z1X. Vivo Z5 features a 6.38-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display with a 1080 x 2340p resolution and is powered by the Snapdragon 712 SoC. Backed by a 4500mAh battery, which supports 22.5W Flash Charge fast charging technology, the handset runs on Funtouch OS 9.1 based on Android 9 Pie.

The Vivo Z5 sports up to 8GB RAM and up to 128GB of internal storage.  The handset gets a triple rear camera setup that features a 48MP primary sensor with an f/1.79 aperture lens, an 8MP secondary sensor with a wide-angle f/2.2 lens, and a third 2MP sensor with an f/2.4 aperture. The company might rebrand the handset to launch it in India, but this is pure speculation right now. In addition, the rumoured smartphone is said to not be a successor to the Vivo Z1 Pro that the company launched in India last month.

Samsung Galaxy A10s goes on sale today starting at Rs 9,499

The Galaxy A10s smartphone, which was announced quietly by Samsung yesterday, goes on sale in India today at a starting price of Rs 9,499. The Galaxy A10s is a follow-up model to the Galaxy A10, which was launched in February this year. Available in two variants and three colour options, the Samsung Galaxy is available in all retail stores, e-Shop, Samsung Opera House, and online retailers such as Flipkart and Amazon.in.

While the 2GB RAM variant of the Samsung Galaxy A10s costs Rs 9,499, the 3GB RAM variant costs Rs 10,499. As expected, the Galaxy A10s contains several changes or improvements over the original Galaxy A10. To begin with, it comes with a different chipset. According to Samsung’s press release, the new budget smartphone comes with an unnamed Octa-core (Quad 2.0GHz + Quad 1.5GHz) processor. We believe this is the MediaTek Helio P22. In comparison, the older Galaxy A10 was powered by an Exynos 7884 chipset and up to 3GB of RAM.

Storage on both variants is a standard 32GB but is expandable up to 512GB using a microSD card. While the Galaxy A10 only had a single rear camera, the Galaxy A10s gets a dual camera setup. The primary sensor is a 13MP unit with an f/1.8 aperture and the secondary sensor is a 2MP depth sensing unit with an f/2.4 aperture. The selfie camera also sees a significant upgrade. In the place of the 5MP shooter is an 8MP camera with the same f/2.0 aperture. The battery gets a bump in capacity too, from 3400mAh to 4000mAh. The Galaxy A10s weighs the same 168g.

The last improvement is the addition of a circular fingerprint scanner to the back panel of the Galaxy A10s, which the original Galaxy A10 sorely missed. The screen on the Galaxy A10s, however, remains the same 6.2-inch IPS LCD unit. Like its predecessor, the Galaxy A10s comes with Android 9 Pie running right out of the box. Available in green, blue, and black colour options, the Samsung Galaxy A10s is currently on sale across various online and offline stores in India.

The launch event will begin at 3PM. It will be livestreamed on YouTube. You can watch the event here.

Oppo Reno2 specifications (expected and confirmed)

The Oppo Reno2  is expected to feature a  6.55-inch AMOLED Panoramic notch-less display under the protection of Gorilla Glass 6. It could have an aspect ratio of 20:9, and sport a 93.1 percent screen to body ratio. Oppo has confirmed that the Reno2 will be powered by the Snapdragon 730G chipset. It will also have gaming-focused features like anti-cheat extensions, optimised Wi-Fi, Game Boost 3.0, Game Assistant, HDR10 gaming support and 25 percent faster graphic rendering in comparison to the predecessor.

While the Frame Boost 2.0 will allocate resources to avoid the consumption of too much power and heating of the phone, the Touch Boost 2.0 will assess touch events and accelerate response time accordingly.

The design is expected to remain the same as Oppo Reno. It is expected to have  3D curved glass back panel with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Oppo Reno2 will have the  shark-fin rising module with front camera housed in it.

On the optics front, Oppo Reno2 is touted to sport a quad rear camera setup: a 48MP primary camera, assisted by 13MP, 8MP, and 2MP sensors. The phone is confirmed to have 2x optical zoom, 5x hybrid zoom, 20x hybrid zoom. Oppo Reno2 is also expected to feature OIS and EIS for video stabilisation, ultra-steady video mode for up to 60fps frame rate, and support for recording 116-degree wide-angle videos.

Oppo Reno2

Previously, the Oppo Reno2 was reportedly spotted on  AnTuTu listing with model number PCKM00. It scored 259109 in the benchmark’s tests, which is slightly higher than the one we have seen on the Redmi K20 that is powered by the Snapdragon 730 and scores around 218,625 on the AnTuTu benchmark.

The smartphone will be available in Ocean Blue and Luminous Black colours.

Oppo Reno2Z expected specifications

Oppo Reno2Z is expected to launch alongside the Oppo Reno2. It will reportedly feature a 6.53-inch full-HD+ (1,080 x 2,340 pixels) display with Gorilla Glass 5 protection and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. In the optics department, Oppo Reno2Z could have a quad rear camera setup: a 48MPIMX586 sensor, assisted by a 119-degree 8MP sensor, and a pair of 2MP sensors. It is expected to support 2x optical zoom, ultra-steady video mode for up to 60fps frame rate, EIS for stabilisation, “Ultra Night Mode” for low-light photography. However, the phone might miss on shark-fin rising module, and have a centrally aligned pop-up camera module instead.

Oppo Reno2F expected specifications

Oppo is expected to announce a third Oppo Reno2 smartphone, which could be called Oppo Reno2F. It is expected to feature a 6.53-inch full-HD+ (1,080 x 2,340 pixels) display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio under Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It could be powered by the MediaTek Helio P70 chipset, paired with up to 8GB RAM. It is tipped to have 128GB of internal storage.

On the optics front, the Oppo Reno2F could sport a quad rear camera setup as well, with a 48MP Samsung GM1 sensor, accompanied by a wide-angle 8MP sensor and a couple of 2MP sensors. It could also have features like 10x digital zoom, and Ultra Night Mode 2.0 for low-light photography. However, Oppo Reno2F might miss out on EIS for video stabilisation.

Oppo has also posted on Weibo to confirm that new wireless noise-cancelling headphones will also be launched alongside the Oppo Reno2 smartphones.

There is no word on pricing yet.

Realme 5, Realme 5 Pro will be sold offline from mid-September in India

Realme recently introduced its Realme 5 series of handsets in India, which consists of the Realme 5 and the Realme 5 Pro. Both handsets come equipped with a quad rear-camera setup and are new competitors in the mid-range smartphone section. While the handsets are going up for sale online, the company’s CEO Madhav Sheth has announced that the two phones will be made offline by mid-September. This means that those who are not keen on buying the phones right away, and online, can wait for the phones to hit offline shelves by next month. In the latest episode of Ask Madhav, the company executive has also answered some additional questions about the Realme 5 and the Realme 5 Pro.

While the Camera 2 API is available out-of-the box for both Realme 5 and Realme 5 Pro, Sheth says that and Bootloader unlock for the handsets will be made available in a month. This feature will help users flash custom firmware on their devices, perform root and install mods. However, the option is not for everyone since unlocking the bootloader can also lead to a bricked device. The screen on time option will also be made available for the smartphones via an OTA update in October. Additionally, the company announced the Realme Buds 2 during the launch of the Realme 5 phones, which are slated to be made available in the first week of September via Realme.com and soon via other online and offline retail outlets.

Featuring a Type-C port, the handset is backed by a 4035mAh battery that supports VOOC 3.0 charging.

Coming to the camera, the Realme 5 Pro sports a 48MP primary Sony IMX586 sensor, along with a 2MP portrait lens with f/2.4 lens and a 2MP camera with f/2.4 macro lens. There’s also an 8MP ultrawide angle lens with f/2.25 aperture lens and 119 degree field of view. On the front is a 16MP Sony IMX471 with an f/2.0 aperture, similar to the Realme X.

The Realme 5 sports a 6.5-inch display and is powered by the Snapdragon 665 SoC. It sports the same camera as the Realme 5 Pro, except for a 12MP main sensor instead of a 48MP sensor. The device sports a 5000mAh battery, which is touted to deliver about 21 hours of Full HD video playback.
