WhatsApp adding optional biometric security to its web and desktop app
WhatsApp for web and desktop is giving users the option of an added security layer. Users will have the option of biometric authentication when logging into the desktop app or web app for WhatsApp. For the iPhone, it will be TouchID or Face ID. However, the user will have to be on iOS 14 or higher to implement the biometric authentication. For Android users, any device with biometric authentication can have it enabled.
For those with privacy concerns should know that WhatsApp is not getting access to your fingerprint or Face ID data. According to The Verge, "As with any other use of biometric security on modern smartphones, the new system does not mean that WhatsApp is accessing or collecting your facial scans or fingerprints".
WhatsApp adding another security layerIt is a good thing to enable biometric authentication when logging into the desktop app for WhatsApp. For starters, it adds a layer of security. Additionally, it prevents someone who has taken your phone to log into WhatsApp for web and monitor your conversation. Without security, if someone has access to your phone, they can simply scan the QR code on the desktop app and log into your account.
WhatsApp has been in the news recently for its changed privacy policy. WhatsApp introduced changes to its privacy policy on January 6. In the changes, it detailed how it's working with Facebook for deeper integration across all Facebook products. You can learn more about the changed privacy policy here.
The Indian government is questioning WhatsApp about the disparity in treatment between Indian and Europeans over the new privacy policy. You can learn more about it here.
WhatsApp has been a fundamental tool in helping people stay connected. The service recorded 1.4 billion calls on New Year's Eve 2020. This is 50% more than 2019. You can learn more about it here.

Those getting a PS5 at launch in India should check out PlayStation Plus February games
The PS5 is launching in India on February 2, 2021, and gamers have one more reason to be excited about Sony's next-gen console. If you are PlayStation Plus subscriber, then you know that the service offers two PS4 games and one PS5 game as a part of the subscription. For February 2021, the free games include Destruction AllStars, Control: Ultimate Edition and Concrete Genie. This has to be one of the better line-up of games as a part of PlayStation's subscription service.
Destruction AllStarsDestruction AllStars was set to be a PS5 (review) launch game, but it was delayed to February 2021. Destruction AllStars is a vehicular combat game much like a destruction derby. Players having the option of a host of drivers and cars to choose from. The game will offer four different modes, each testing your thriving and parkour skills. You will not only drive vehicles in the game but can also run around the arena (which is an integral part of some modes). You can check out the video above to get an idea of what the gameplay is like. The video also offers a deep dive into some of the game's modes. Destruction AllStars is exclusive to the PS5
Control: Ultimate EditionNext up is Control: Ultimate Edition. The ultimate edition of the game is optimised for next-gen consoles. Control (review) is one of the few games that doesn't offer a free next-gen upgrade to PS4 players. Gamers have to purchase the Ultimate Edition to get the next-gen version of the game. However, for PS Plus members, Control: Ultimate edition is a part of the subscription.
Concrete GenieLast but not least, we have Concrete Genie. While it is a PS4 game, you will be able to play it on your PS5 via backwards compatibility. If you have a PS VR, the game has specific modes for Sony's VR headset as well. You can check out our list of games launching in February here.

Netflix announces Tomb Raider and Kong anime series on the platform
Netflix has been killing it in the anime game lately. They've curated a ton of cool shows and movies on the platform. From the demonic insanity of Devilman: Crybaby to the action-packed Castlevania (review). Netflix has now curated one of the best anime libraries online. You can now add one more to the list in the newly announced Tomb Raider anime. For fans of the live-action reboot of the franchise, you will be a little disappointed. The story will not follow the events of the film. The Tomb Raider anime's story will instead follow the lore set in the last three games.
New Netflix Tomb Raider Anime in the worksIn a tweet on Wednesday, Netflix announced the new Tomb Raider anime. The platform stated, "The most iconic heroine in video games is jumping to animation! Tomb Raider is a new anime series from @Legendary following Lara Croft after the events of the video-game reboot trilogy." The showrunner for the Tomb Raider anime will be Tasha Huo. She is also heading development on The Witcher: Blood Omen (which looks like it’s going to be a mess). We sincerely hope that Netflix knows what it is doing. But, knowing how it will all turn out, we’d say to take this news with a grain of salt.
