Fortnite Players Are Getting Fraudulent Charges For Hundreds Of Dollars

Dozens of Fortnite players say hackers have infiltrated their accounts. Over the last month, players have noticed fraudulent charges of up to hundreds of dollars on their Epic Games accounts. Epic says it’s aware of the problem and is working to resolve it.

Tyler, who plays Fortnite Battle Royale, says he received a text message from a gaming friend last week asking if he’d purchased the Fortnite base game, Save the World. “He saw my account online in that game mode,” Tyler told me. But Tyler had not purchased Save the World or logged in for the last 24 hours. Shortly after the text, Tyler received e-mail receipts for purchases of $149.99 and $99.99. He said that his account password had not changed, so he has no idea how hackers took control of his account. However, his card data was saved in his Epic Games profile. Tyler received refunds afterward, according to screenshots seen by Kotaku.

Over the last few weeks, dozens of other players have complained on Reddit and on Epic Games’ forums that their accounts have been compromised, too. One says they haven’t played Fortnite Save the World in four months, but were charged $210 for two purchases. Some purchases were for Epic Games’ V-Bucks, in-game currency. Others were for expansions, cosmetics or the Fortnite Save the World base game. Descriptions for several purchases were in Russian and read, “improvement from the standard,” “Founder’s Set” and “improved set.”

Reached by e-mail, an Epic spokesperson told Kotaku, “We are aware of instances where users’ accounts have been compromised using well-known hacking techniques and are working to resolve these issues directly with those players affected. Any players who believe their account has been compromised should reach out to our player support immediately.”

Epic Games recently added an option to enable two-factor authentication on players’ accounts, which is always a good idea no matter what you’re doing online. The developer also posted a security checklist for players concerned that their accounts could be vulnerable.

Sign-Ups For 'Fortnite Battle Royale' Mobile On iOS Are Live, Here's How To Get It

If you want to see what Fortnite Battle Royale looks like on a mobile device, now's your chance -- at least to try. Developer Epic Games just opened up sign-ups for the iOS pilot program for the just-announced mobile version of the massively popular battle royale game -- all you have to do is go to this website and fill out the forms to get a chance at being one of the first few to try it out.

To participate, you'll need an internet connection, iOS 11, and at least an iPhone 6S/SE, iPad Mini 4, iPad Pro, iPad Air 2 or any 2017 iPad to participate. iPhones 7+ will also work. Remember, this is a limited access pilot program, so you're really just entering into a lottery by giving Epic your email. The chosen few will receive emails when they can start playing, which Epic seems to suggest is in the near-future. Given the social nature of this game, they'll also receive extra codes for their friends.

If you don't get a code right away, Epic will be sending out future waves after this initial one, and of course the game will eventually see a full commercial release. At this early stage we can expect a slightly less-polished product than what Epic will eventually release to the public.

An Android version will follow in the coming months.

The main thing I'll be looking at when I (eventually) get my hands on the game will be how well the control scheme translates to touch, particularly since the game relies on switching back and forth between shooting and a building mechanic that requires a certain degree of speed and dexterity to pull off in any kind of competitive way. I'm not expecting controls to be as responsive or as accurate as a mouse and keyboard on PC, but I'll still be looking for a baseline level capable of maintaining the same essential experience of the game across platforms.

That's Epic's vision, after all: the makers of Unreal Engine want to show off a kind of platform-agnostic development that means Fortnite will be the same game whether you're playing on iOS, Android, PC, Xbox One or PS4. It's a bold idea, but one that the company has been working at for a long time. We'll get to see the next phase soon.

It appears Reliance Jio is not done giving away freebies yet and the company is now doling out more data to its users. Reliance Jio has reportedly added 10GB add-on data to select 4G users in India. Earlier, it was believed that the new add-on pack is due to the occasion of Holi. However, Jio is giving away 10GB additional data as a token of appreciation to its users for using the JioTV app. The JioTV app is said to be declared as the “Best Mobile Video Content” at the Global Mobile Awards 2018 at MWC in Barcelona. According to Telecomtalk, the 10GB additional data pack will expire on 27 March 2018. Sadly, the new data add-on pack is completely an automated one which means some users may receive the additional data and others may not. Users can check the data add-ons via MyJio app on their smartphone.
