OnePlus is generally fast when it comes to delivering software updates and the company is now reportedly rolling out the OxygenOS 5.1.11 update for the OnePlus 6. The update brings system and camera optimisations to the smartphone and as this is a staged roll-out, the update will be seeded to a limited number of users for now, with a broader roll-out in a few days time. The new patch brings a fix for the screen flickering issue spotted by some users and improves the HDR mode in the camera as well. Additionally, the update brings some system level optimisations like better network connectivity and stability for Wi-Fi connections, along with some general bug fixes and improvements. The screen flickering issue in daylight was reported last month and as per users on the company’s forums, the problem occurred when adaptive brightness was turned on. The new update should fix this issue. As for the improvements to the HDR mode, the company has not mentioned how exactly it has improved or what changes have been made to the HDR mode. We hope to test the same when we get the update on the OnePlus 6 unit in our lab. Currently, the OnePlus 6 does not directly unlock when the security Pin is entered and one needs to tap on the tick mark to confirm the code. After updating, the phone will simply unlock once the correct pin is entered. The feature can be accessed in PIN submenu, under the Security & lock Settings of the OnePlus 6. The new update comes nearly a fortnight after OnePlus seeded the OxygenOS 5.1.9 update for the OnePlus 6, which updated the device with an intelligent battery saving feature. The smartphone is backed by a 3,300mAh battery that performs well and with the previous update, its performance was taken a step further as the phone intelligently turns off network operations when it detects that the user is asleep. The new feature is called Sleep Standby Optimisation and it’s not active by default. One will have to navigate to Advanced Optimisation, under the battery optimisation option from the phone’s settings to activate it. The OnePlus 6 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC. It sports a 6.28-inch FHD+ Full Optic AMOLED display with a 19:9 aspect ratio that comes with a notch on top. The rear panel of the smartphone is made of glass and it houses a vertically stacked dual rear camera setup. There is a 16MP + 20MP sensor on the main camera, while on the front sits a 16MP sensor. The device comes in a 6GB/64GB model and an 8GB RAM version with 128GB and 256GB internal storage options. You can read our review of the OnePlus 6 here.
