Nokia to close the notch-gate and bring back option to hide notch on Nokia 61 Plus

HMD Global recently launched the Nokia 6.1 Plus with 'notched' display and dual rear cameras, in India. Like other few brands, the smartphone ships with a software setting that hides the notch by blacking out the space adjacent to it. But over the weekend, some users posted on the Nokia community forum that the company has removed the setting. Following the complaints, HMD Global's Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas, tweeted that the feature will soon be back on the smartphone. Just to close the "notch gate", we will enable setting to black out notch on the Nokia 6.1 Plus. Have a great & relaxing weekend everyone!  #nokiamobile — Juho Sarvikas (@sarvikas) 7 September 2018 “Unfortunately we had to remove the notch hide option as per Google requirement (sic),” read a now-deleted message on the forum from a moderator. It is unknown why the company decided to remove the feature but anyway it is coming back soon. The executive did not give a timeline when the feature will be rolled out to the smartphones. It is speculated that the setting may come with the next OS update. To recall, HMD Global launched the Nokia 6.1 Plus in August in the country. The smartphone comes in a 4GB RAM/64GB internal storage variant and is priced at Rs 15,999. The Nokia 6.1 Plus features a 5.8-inch Full HD+ notched display with a 19:9 aspect ratio, which is protected by Gorilla Glass 3. It is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC and comes in the above-mentioned variants. The camera duties are given to the 16MP + 5MP dual-rear camera setup with Zeiss lenses and on the front, the smartphone sports a 16MP sensor. The device is a part of Google’s Android One initiative and runs on Android 8.1 Oreo. The dual-SIM device is backed by a 3060 mAh battery.
