Xiaomi’s onslaught of smartphones this year continues and this time, the company has launched a new flagship — The Mi 8 Pro. The smartphone’s highlight is a pressure-sensitive in-display fingerprint sensor with a close resemblance of the iPhone X thanks to a wide notch on top of the display. Along with the Mi 8 Pro, Xiaomi also launched the Mi 8 Lite. Both devices were launched in China. Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro specs The Mi 8 Pro is powered the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 clocked at 2.8GHz. That’s coupled with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB non-expandable storage. The Mi 8 Pro touts a 6.21-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with an 18.7:9 aspect ratio. Apart from the in-display fingerprint sensor, the Mi 8 Pro also sports IR-based face unlock that we had previously seen in the Poco F1. Because of that, the flagship phone has a wider notch that others. The phone also incorportates the transparent back design seen first on the Mi 8 Explorer Edition and the HTC U12 Plus. The phone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI on top. As for the optics, the Mi 8 Pro sports a 12MP+12MP dual rear cameras. The primary camera has an aperture of f/1.8 while second camera has an aperture of f/2.4. The camera is bolstered with AI-centric features like scene recognition, AI studio light and the likes. On the front is a 20MP shooter that can apply 3D beauty effects, AI portrait mode and more. The Mi 8 Pro has a 3,000mAh battery powering the whole thing. Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite specs The Mi 8 Lite sports slightly underpowered specs. It’s also more compact with a 6.26-inch LCD display and powered by a Snapdragon 660 SoC, a 12MP + 5MP rear camera and a 24MP selfie camera along with a larger 3,350mAh battery. Also, the Mi 8 Lite sports a regular fingerprint sensors. It comes in two gradient colour finishes — Blue and Purple and Orange and Yellow. The Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro is priced at 3,199 yuan (approx Rs 33,800) for the 6GB RAM variant while the 8GB RAM variant is priced at 3,599 yuan (approx Rs 38,000). The Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite will be sold for 1,400 yuan (approx Rs 14,700) for the 4GB/64GB variant, 1700 yuan (approx Rs 17,859) for the 6GB/64GB variant and 2,000 yuan (approx Rs 21,000) for the 6GB/128GB variant. Both phones will be available for pre-order from September 19. The Mi 8 Pro will start shipping from September 21 while the Mi 8 Lite will go on sale from September 25.
