Xiaomi’s Poco F1 smartphone garnered a lot of attention recently and for all the right reasons. The device manages to offer a flagship-grade specifications such as a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset at a very low price. However, it seems like there is a flaw. First spotted by Android Pure, the smartphone is unable to stream in HD. So anyone who likes to stream high definition videos from Netflix or Amazon Prime Video is out of luck. The reason for this is because the Poco F1 does not support Widevine L1 DRM, which is required by content providers like Netflix to stream HD videos. Instead, the Poco F1 supports Widevine L3, which can be used to stream SD videos. This is a little disappointing to say the least, especially considering the fact that the hardware is right up there with some of the best smartphones on offer right now. We indepndently tested the same on our unit and found the same to be true. To recall, this was also the same problem that plagued OnePlus 5 and 5T users. At the time, OnePlus promised to fix the issue via a software update. However, later, users were asked to courier the handsets back to the company in order to fix the issue. The company promised to fix and return the handset within five working days. The company noted that due to the security process involved with the update, it can only be done via a physical connection from an authenticated PC. The company also promised to cover the courier costs. So it seems like Xiaomi Poco F1 users may have to go through the same process, if the company decides to offer a patch for the issue. The first flash sale of the Poco F1 ended a few days ago, and the company claims to have sold over Rs 200 Crore worth of devices in 5 minutes. Xiaomi launched the Poco F1 in three variants, a 6GB RAM + 64GB storage for Rs 20,999 and 6GB RAM + 128GB storage for Rs 23,999. The 8GB RAM + 256GB storage version is priced at Rs 28,999 and the special Armoured edition with 8GB RAM + 256GB storage is priced at Rs 29,999. The Poco F1 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 processor and comes with a Liquid Cooling technology. The smartphone sports a 6.18-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD display with a resolution of 19:9. There is a wide notch on the Corning Gorilla Glass protected display because the phone has an IR lens to make the face unlock more effective in low-light conditions. The notch has a lighting sensor, earpiece, a 20MP camera and a proximity sensor inside. You can check out our review of the Poco F1 here.
