Android Digital Wellbeing now rolling out for Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 61 Plus

At I/O 2018 earlier this year, Google announced an anti-smartphone addiction feature called Digital Wellbeing. It’s aim is to reduce your dependence on your smartphone. Digital Wellbeing relies on APIs of Android 9 Pie to keep a track of your usage. The feature was earlier exclusive to the Pixel devices, however, Juho Sarvikas, HMD Global's Chief Product Officer for Nokia phones announced that the feature is now rolling out to the Nokia 7.1 Plus and the Nokia 6.1 Plus, which are both Android One devices. Digital Wellbeing keeps a track of the apps you’ve used the most and for how long. It takes into account the number of times you unlocked the phone and the number of notifications you’ve received in a day. Over time, you can get an idea of just how addicted you are to your smartphone. There’s a nifty dashboard to see it all. Further, The feature also turns the screen into grey to help you sleep better at night. Although, the results would be hardly surprising considering the influence these handheld devices have over our lives these days. The feature is part of Nokia’s promise of keeping its devices up to date with the latest Android features. All the Nokia phones that launched this year are Android One certified which means all of them receives regular security upgrades every month. Further, all the devices carrying the Nokia moniker will receive version upgrades for the next two years. As part of the deal, Digital Well-being is also being pushed out to Nokia devices and the Nokia 7.1 Plus and the Nokia 6.1 Plus will be the first to receive it. The feature will be available as a standalone app from the Google Play Store. Search for Digital Wellbeing by Google LLC on the store to get the link. However, when we searched for the app on the Play Store from our Nokia 6.1 Plus review unit, it was nowhere to be found. It’s likely to be a gradual rollout. Further, Sarvikas had also earlier promised that the update to Android 9 Pie will be rolled out to both devices by the end of this year.
