Apple rolled out the iOS 12 update to iPhone and iPad devices on September 17 and within 20 days after the launch, 51.98 percent of these devices are already running the latest operating system on them, a report by analytics platform Mixpanel has claimed. The platform also claims that these numbers imply that iOS 12 adoption has outpaced iOS 11 which took a month to achieve this feat. According to 9to5mac, iOS 12 adoption had a slow start but it surged and almost doubled in seven days from the rollout. According to the data shared by the analytics firm, as of October 7 till 1.30PM UTC (7PM in India), 51.98 percent of the iPhone and iPad devices that support the latest OS have installed iOS 12. Over 41 percent (41.22%) of these devices are still running on iOS 11 and the rest 6.80 percent are using iOS 10 or older. Mixpanel claims that its report was generated from “294,263,139,106 records.” During its Gather Round launch event, the company announced that all the iPhones till iPhone 5s, and all the iPads dating iPad mini 2 will support iOS 12. Apple’s iOS 12 had been in beta mode since June, the final version of which is now available to all. It brings a host of new features, but the key area of focus is performance. Apple claims that the new OS will enable 40 percent faster app launches, 50 percent quicker Keyboard pop-up and 70 percent faster camera boot-up on older devices. Another significant addition is a new feature called Screen Time, which helps users track their app and phone usage statistics. The feature is said to help people understand their usage habits and be more judicious in their use of devices. There’s also an improved photos app, along with grouped notifications. You can read about the iOS 12 announcement here and go through its features here. Mixpanel reports the number of active iOS versions based on App Store usage and Apple is yet to update its official stats page. The Cupertino-based giant last updated its App Store support page on September 3 in which it said that iOS 11 topped with 85 percent adoption. It also reported that last year, Apple’s official numbers did not cross the 50 percent mark for iOS 11 until November.
