HMD Global has launched the Nokia 8110 4G in India to bring back a sense of nostalgia. Although the 4G feature phone was first introduced at MWC this year, the device has only made it to India just now. The Nokia 8110 4G was launched alongside the Nokia 3.1 Plus budget smartphone at an event in New Delhi today. The Nokia 8110 4G is the HMD Global’s modern take on the ‘banana phone’ that was used in the first Matrix movie. As the name would suggest, the phone comes with 4G support and users will be able to use it as a Wi-Fi hotspot. The devices also comes with Google Assistant, Google Maps, Google Search. It also comes with Facebook, Twitter and more apps which can be downloaded from its app store, which is powered by KaiOS. In India, the only other phones that run Kai OS are the JioPhone and JioPhone 2. The new Nokia feature phone is powered by a 1.1Ghz dual-core Qualcomm 205 mobile processor along with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. There is also a microSD slot to expand the memory along with a 2-megapixel camera at the back and a 1,500mAh battery. HMD Global claims the Banana phone can last up to 25 hours on standby and deliver a talk time of 9.32 hours on a 4G VoLTE connection. In comparison, the JioPhone is also powered by the Qualcomm 205 mobile processor coupled with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage, which is expandable via a microSD card, same as the Nokia 8110 4G. On the back is a 2-megapixel camera and it also has a 0.3-megapixel front camera, which is not present on the Nokia 8110 4G. The JioPhone also has a larger battery of 2,000mAh capacity that delivers upto 48 hours of battery life. Neither of the two phones can deliver a week-long battery life like other feature phones simply because there’s no so much happening inside. The Nokia 8110 4G will be available in Black and Banana Yellow colour variants starting October 24, through offline retail stores in India. It is priced at Rs 5,999, which, to be honest, is pretty pricey for a 4G feature phone. In comparison, the Xiaomi Redmi 6A is also available starting at Rs 5,999 and it is a full-fledged smartphone with complete Google Play support. Reliance Jio Subscribers in India will get free 544GB 4G data with the purchase of the Nokia Banana Phone.
