Recently we reported that Samsung could launch a total of four S-series flagship smartphones in the first half of next year: three with the Galaxy S10 moniker and a fourth, which may be called “Beyond X”. The primary difference in these devices will be the displays, but according to a new report, Samsung could add a ceramic back option to the some of the variants of the handset to add an X-factor to the premium devices of the four variants. Samsung has been using the glass back since 2015 when it first introduced it in the Galaxy S6. According to GSMArena, Samsung is expected to introduce the ceramic back in the 5.8-inch, 6.2 inch and 6.7-inch devices that are reported to have the curved edge type displays. The fourth variant which is said to have the 5.8-inch flat type display could sport the regular glass back display. Also, the phones with the ceramic back may initially be offered in white and black colours. The report says that only the variant with glass back may be offered in the multiple colours that were previously reported. Ceramic is a very hard material and is more resistant to scratches as compared to glass. Further, it has a polish and a shine that the glass back has a tough time matching. Ceramic doesn’t block signals and the phone with the ceramic back supports wireless charging. If the claims turn out to be true, Samsung will be in the same league as the Essential Phone and some Xiaomi Mi Mix series handsets that feature ceramic back covering. It has been widely reported that Samsung will launch a total of four phones to commemorate 10 years of the Galaxy smartphones. As mentioned above, of the four, three variants will bear the Galaxy S10 moniker and the fourth one will be called “Beyond X” and will launch in Spring, that is, somewhere between late March and late June. Wall Street Journal reported that the three Galaxy S10 devices is expected to have a standard variant with a 5.8-inch flat type display, which means that this phone will not have a curved display design, in which the display curves to the sides. The other two models are expected to have 5.8-inch and 6.2 inch curved edge type displays. The most premium model of the lot, the “Beyond X” is also claimed to feature a total of six cameras (two front-facing and four rear) and support for next-generation 5G networks. The “Beyond X” is expected to unveil when carriers start offering 5G service, which is expected to be during the Spring season in the US. There are also claims that the company is considering adding a reverse wireless charging feature to juice up other devices, like another phone or headphones. The Galaxy S10 is expected to be available in Black, White, Yellow and Green colours.
