Huawei P30 Pro might come equipped with 38MP Sony IMX607 sensor, details leaked

Sony is reportedly developing the 38MP Sony IMX607 image sensor and a document detailing the general description as well as features has been leaked on the Chinese microblogging website Weibo. According to the document, the sensor could come with features like Advanced Noise Reduction, Ambient Light Sensor, Quad Pixel Phase Detection Auto Focus, High signal to noise ratio (SNR) and “exceptional” low-illumination performance, among others. The 38MP Sony IMX607 sensor is said to be specifically designed for “use in cellular phone, tablet pc and pc camera. When using this for another application, Sony does not guarantee the quality and reliability of the product. Therefore don't use this for applications other than cellular phone, tablet pc and pc camera.” The IMX607 could measure 9.990mm (Type 1/1.8) diagonally and is a CMOS active pixel type stacked image sensor with a square pixel array. It is also described to employ Exmor RS technology to achieve "high-speed" image capturing through the backside illuminated imaging pixel structure, the document suggests. Further, it is reported that Huawei will the first company to incorporate this sensor, and will do it in its rumoured P30 Pro smartphone. The P30 Pro is expected to launch in March-April next year powered by the company’s flagship Kirin 980 processor. Huawei reportedly worked with Sony when it launched the Mate 20 Pro recently. It is expected that Huawei may once again align Sony to develop this sensor for use in the flagship device. Huawei’s Mate 20 Pro has a three-camera setup on the back and features a 40MP main sensor with an aperture of f/1.8, 20MP secondary imaging sensor with ultra-wide lens and a third 8MP sensor with a telephoto lens. All three lenses have been manufactured by Leica. You can see our Huawei Mate 20 camera samples here and for the smartphone review, click this link.
