HMD Global has announced its Nokia 8.1 smartphone at today’s launch event in Dubai. As expected, the device is the rebranded version of the China-exclusive Nokia X7 and it borrows the same specs. We already knew everything there is to know about the device since its promotional slides and even a promo video were leaked online, just hours ahead of the launch. The new smartphone features a PureView display and comes equipped with ZEISS optics for the cameras. It is touted to deliver a two-day battery life and as all Nokia smartphones, Nokia 8.1 Specifications The “New Nokia 8” or the Nokia 8.1 sports a 6.18-inch full-HD+ display with an 18.7:9 aspect ratio. The screen comes with HDR 10 support and has a resolution of 1080x2244 pixels. The smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC, which can clock speeds of up to 2.2GHz, and features 4GB RAM with 64GB of internal storage. The device is backed by a 3500 mAh battery, which is said to last the device for two days and features a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. As all Nokia devices, the Nokia 8.1 is an Android One device and it runs on stock Android 9 Pie. In terms of optics, the Nokia 8.comes equipped with a dual camera setup that features Zeiss optics and supports Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and Electronic Image Stabilisation (EIS). It features a 12MP primary camera with a 1.4-micron pixels, 1/2.55-inch sensor, which is paired with a depth-sensing 13MP camera. The main camera supports Dual PDAF and it can capture 4K video at 30fps. On the front, the handset comes with a 20MP sensor with 0.9-micron pixels that is said to combine 4 pixels in 1 for better low-light images. The phone supports fast charging as well. The device is built using a single block of Series 6000 aluminium, which is said to have been through two anodising processes. Nokia 8.1 Price The Nokia 8.1 will globally retail at an average retail price of EUR 399 (Rs 31,940 approx) and will be available in India mid-December. The company is expected to confirm the device’s pricing at the upcoming December 10 India launch. The phone will be available in Blue/Silver, Steel/Copper, and Iron/Steel dual-tone colour models.
