HMD Global is hosting a launch event today in India where it is expected to unveil the recently announced Nokia 8.1 smartphone. While everything to know about the device is already known, the company will reveal its India price and availability at today’s event. The new device sports some of the same features that the previously launched Nokia 7.1 comes with, including a PureView display and ZEISS optics for the cameras. However, unlike the Nokia 7.1, the Nokia 8.1 runs on a Snapdragon 710 chipset, making it the second phone after the Oppo R17 Pro to do so in India. Just like all Nokia smartphones, Nokia 8.1 is also a part of the Android One family and runs on stock Android 9 Pie OS. The phone is touted to deliver a two-day battery life. Nokia 8.1 Specifications The Nokia 8.1 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC, which can clock speeds of up to 2.2GHz. The processor is coupled with 4GB RAM with 64GB of internal storage. The phone sports a 6.18-inch full-HD+ display with an 18.7:9 aspect ratio. As mentioned earlier, its screen comes with HDR 10 support and has a resolution of 1080x2244 pixels. The smartphone is backed by a 3500 mAh battery which supports 18W fast charging and the phone is said to last for two days on a single full charge. The handset gets a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and same as all Nokia smartphones, the Nokia 8.1 is an Android One device that runs on stock Android 9 Pie. In terms of optics, the Nokia 8.1 comes equipped with a dual camera setup that features Zeiss optics and supports Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), along with Electronic Image Stabilisation (EIS). The device gets a 12MP primary camera with 1.4-micron pixels, 1/2.55-inch sensor, paired with a 13MP depth-sensing camera. The main camera supports Dual PDAF and is capable of capturing 4K video at 30fps. On the front, the handset comes with a 20MP sensor optimised for better low-light images. Nokia 8.1 Price At the global launch event, HMD Global announced that the Nokia 8.1 will globally retail at an average retail price of EUR 399 (Rs 31,940 approx). It is expected to be priced around the same in India, however, the company could lower the price a bit to entice consumers. The phone will be available in India starting mid-December. Colour options for the Nokia 8.1 include - Blue/Silver, Steel/Copper, and Iron/Steel dual-tone colour models. How to watch live stream The Nokia 8.1 launch event is slated to commence at 5:30 p.m. on December 10.
