Samsung has a Christmas treat for Galaxy S9 and S9+ users. The Android 9 Pie update with OneUI is rolling out to the Galaxy S9 and S9+ devices. The update is being pushed out earlier than the January 2019 window Samsung gave earlier, but according to Sammobile and Android Authority, users in Germany are receiving the update. While Galaxy S9 and S9+ users had the option to sign up for the beta version of the update, the reports confirm this is in fact, the stable update that’s rolling out to users, even to the non-beta users that are on Android Oreo-based Samsung Experience UI. It’s not clear whether the update is rolling out globally or whether it’s restricted to some regions. However, Reddit users also confirmed the update has hit Europe and some parts of Asia. Users from Italy, Switzerland, Greece and UAE also reported the update becoming available to their devices. It’s likely the international variant of the Galaxy S9 and the S9+, powered by the Exynos 9810 are receiving the update. Some even reported that the update came up right after installing the December security patch. You might want to get your phone updated to the latest patch and check for updates. Furthermore, Samsung also revealed its update roadmap for Android 9 Pie on the Samsung Members app. The full list includes: Galaxy S9 and S9+ (January 2019) Galaxy Note 9 (February 2019) Galaxy A8 2018, A8+, A7 2018, A9 2018, Tab S4 10.5 (April 2019) Galaxy J4, J4+, J6, J6+, A8 Star (May 2019) Galaxy J7 2017 (July 2019) Galaxy J7 Duo (August 2019) Galaxy Xcover4, J3 2017, Tab S3 9.7 (September 2019) Galaxy Tab A 2017, Tab Active2, Tab A 10.5 (October 2019) The list reveals that Samsung will take its time to roll out the update across its portfolio of devices. Interestingly, only phones launched after 2017 will receive the Android 9 Pie update. This means the Galaxy S7 and the S7 Edge and older devices will not get the update, as both phones have received the promised two version updates. The OneUI beta update to the Galaxy Note 9 revealed new icons and a new flavour to the interface that looked much more refined. Right from the notification panel to a more Material Design-like design based on Android 9 Pie. There’s even a redesigned system menu with dark mode and other new options. Samsung has listed out all that’s new in its support docs.
