Highlights: The 11-year old kid Ahad has reportedly filed a PIL, moving the Bombay high court to ban PUBG. His PIL reads that the game promotes “violence, murder, aggression, looting, gaming addiction and cyber bullying.” PUBG Mobile, without a doubt, is nothing short of a new cultural phenomenon. The game has surpassed 30 million daily active players and even the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, referred to it in a recent event while addressing concerns about technology and its use among kids. While the game is fun, it is said to be addictive for some people and has been banned from primary schools in Gujarat. Now, PTI reports that an 11-year old kid, Ahad Nizam, has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL), moving the Bombay high court to ban the online multiplayer title in the state. This comes after Nizam wrote a strongly worded letter to the Maharashtra government asking a ban to be implemented on it but didn’t get a response. As per the report, PIL filed by Nizam, via his mother, reiterates the kid’s stance on the gaming title. He says that the game promotes gaming addiction, violence and cyberbullying, and the HC should direct the Maharashtra government to ban it. The PIL might come up for hearing before a division bench headed by Chief Justice N H Patil. "The petition has also sought a direction to the central government to form an Online Ethics Review Committee for periodical checking of such violence-oriented online content," petitioner's lawyer Tanveer Nizam said. We previously came across a report that the letter Ahad previously sent to the Maharashtra Govt. is said to be an "appeal to forthwith ban online game PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds [PUBG] as it promotes immoral conduct such as violence, murder, aggression, looting, gaming addiction and cyberbullying." The battle royale game is so well known that the Prime Minister of India recently referred to it. In an event called “Pariksha pe Charcha 2.0” (Discussions on Exams 2.0), the mother of a class-IX student said that her son is so inclined towards online gaming that it is affecting his studies. She asked the PM for a solution for this to which Modi replied, “Ye PUBG wala hai kya?” (Is he one of the PUBG players?). As soon as he said the words, the crowd at the event burst out into applause.
