Highlights: Google Maps for iOS now receiving the option to Follow places. The new feature enables users to follow the places they want, like businesses or restaurants. After introducing the “Follow” feature on Maps for Android, Google is now rolling out the option for iOS users as well. The news comes via a blog post by the company that states that the feature will enable users to search and follow a place “whether it’s a new restaurant that just opened up in your neighbourhood or that must-try bakery across town.” Once a user starts following a place on Google Maps, they will be notified about all important updates from them like offers, upcoming events and more. A user will get to view updates from the places they follow under the For you tab. Google Maps was initially updated with the option to follow places and businesses back in October last year. However, till now, the feature was available only for Android device users. While the update might seem like a small addition, the sheer number of users on the app can make it a big thing. For example, consider a good restaurant that is relatively less known. With the help of this option, it can gain followers, sends out messages and potentially grow its business. “Starting this week, you can stay up to date on your favorite places right from the Google Maps app on iOS. Simply search for a place—whether it’s a new restaurant that just opened up in your neighborhood or that must-try bakery across town—and tap the Follow button. You’ll then be able to see important updates from these places in your For you tab so you can quickly learn about upcoming events, offers and more,” Google's blog post reads. Speaking of new features being added to Google Maps, at I/O 2018, Google showcased the use of Augmented Reality to navigate via the app. A new report suggests that the company is testing the new feature with select users. The short demo of the function last year revealed that users will be able to identify landmarks and the place around them in real time using AR from within the Google Maps app. Related Reads: Google Maps' new Messages feature enables users to chat with businesses in app Google Maps get departure/arrival time functionality on Android
