After Sony and Samsung both announced 48-megapixel sensors, smartphone vendors are increasingly adopting them in all price brackets. Both 48MP camera sensors from Sony and Samsung are similar, with 0.8µm pixels and an overall size of 1/2.0 inches. While’s Sony’s IMX 586 and Samsung’s GM1 sensors are similar, the Sony sensor uses a quad-Bayer design. This means that the adjacent 2x2 pixels are of the same colour, and the data from them is combined into one pixel. In this article, we will list all the new and upcoming smartphones that bring 48MP cameras with them. Honor View 20 The Honor View 20 was the first phone in India to launch with a 48MP camera. The smartphone was also first to bring the punch hole camera design in the country. It runs on the company’s flagship Octa-core Kirin 980 chipset. The device also features GPU Turbo 2.0 technology which is aimed at boosting graphics and performance. The phone gets a a 6.4-inch Full HD+ All-View display that has a 2310x1080p resolution. A 4.5mm circular cutout on the top-left corner houses the 25MP front-facing camera on the phone. At the back, the phone houses the 48MP Sony IMX586 CMOS primary sensor. Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is yet to launch in India and the company has been teasing the smartphone through its Indian social media handles extensively off late. The Redmi Note 7 also features a 48MP camera setup and is believed to be one of the cheapest smartphones to launch with this camera spec. Unlike the Honor View 20, the Redmi Note 7 features Samsung’s ISOCELL Bright GMI 48MP sensor. The smartphone features a 6.8-inch IPS LCD display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The device comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset and a 4,000mAh battery. In the camera department, the Redmi Note 7 gets a 48MP+5MP primary setup and a 13MP selfie shooter. It is expected that the Redmi Note 7 will launch in India sometime late February or early March. Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro Just like the Redmi Note 7, the Redmi Note 7 Pro is also expected to feature a 48MP camera sensor, albeit from Sony. The device has not launched yet, but is expected to debut alongside the Redmi Note 7 in India. The Redmi Note 7 Pro is expected to run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 SoC. It could launch with 6GB RAM and 128GB local storage. Not much else is known about the Redmi Note 7 Pro, but chances are it will be a mid-range device , while the Redmi Note 7 will be the budget offering from the company. Oppo F11 Pro Oppo just announced that it will be launching the F11 Pro in India soon. The smartphone will house a 48MP rear camera along with Super Night Mode to assist with low-light photography. The phone is also expected to feature a pop-up selfie camera. In terms of other specs, the Oppo F11 Pro is expected to come bearing a a 6.5-inch AMOLED display and the MediaTek Helio P80 SoC. The chipset has not yet released, but the F11 Pro is expected to be the first smartphone to run on it. There could be 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage on the device. It is rumoured to be powered by a 4,500mAh battery, assisted by VOOC charging. Moto Z4 Play (rumoured) The Moto Z4 Play is not yet official, but details of the phone were leaked a few days back. Leaks say that the smartphone will feature a 48MP camera sensor and an in-display fingerprint sensor. The phone is rumoured to ditch Sony and Samsung’s 48MP sensor in favour of China-based Q Technology’s S5KGM1SP module. Under the hood, the phone is expected to feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 chipset. It could be powered by a 3,600mAh battery. Realme 3 (rumoured) Realme is also working on a smartphone with a 48MP camera as confirmed by Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth. The phone could be called the Realme 3 and is expected to launch sometime in Q1 2019. It is possible that Realme will launch a regular and a pro variant of the Realme 3, however nothing much is known about the smartphone yet, other than the fact that the company is working on including the new camera sensor in its phones.
