BSNL introduces Rs 599 prepaid plan with unlimited voice calling for 180 days

Highlights: Jio introduces Rs 599 prepaid plan to extend validity The plan will also give free calls for this time period It is not available in Delhi and Mumbai Jio has disrupted the telecom market in India and even the government-led telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is not untouched by it. The operator has been introducing plans to compete in the market and now it has introduced a Rs 599 prepaid plan that will offer users validity extension as well as free calling. The plan is currently available for users in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. First reported by TelecomTalk, a report says that if the subscribers of any prepaid plan of BSNL recharge Rs 599 plan to extend the plan of their validity by 180 days. Digit was able to confirm the development from a source. Not only do the consumers get the extended validity of six months, but they will also get free local, STD and roaming calls. However, these plans will not be available to customers in Mumbai and Delhi circle because BSNL does not have operations in these cities. Last month, TelecomTalk reported that BSNL had refreshed its Rs 98 prepaid recharge plan, which offers 2GB daily data, that is, 0.5GB more than what it previously used to offer. Additionally, the revamped recharge will now enable 60kbps data speeds post the FUP limit. Previously, there was no provision of unlimited data usage after exhausting the allotted daily data. Those who opt for this recharge are also entitled to get free Eros Now subscription as well. Recently, BSNL negated the rumours that claimed that the telecom operator is shutting shop to mitigate the occurring losses. It was also reported that revival and disinvestment were also some of the options on the table. The claims were further negated by the fact that the Department of Telecom (DoT) is said to understand the telecom operator’s “huge infrastructure and reach, especially in rural areas.” “Attention of Government has been drawn to certain reports in a section of the media which convey the impression that BSNL may be closed down.  However, this is not true. At present there is no proposal under consideration with the Government for the closure of BSNL. On the contrary, the Department of Telecommunications, Government of India (DoT) recognises and values the inherent strengths of BSNL as a telecom services provider with huge infrastructure and reach, especially in rural areas. Further, DoT is in the process of finalising a proposal for revival of BSNL to be considered by the Digital Communications Commission (DCC) very soon.” the BSNL press release stated.
