Highlights: Report confirms Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL moniker for Google’s mid-range devices. Both the phones will have Snapdragon 670 SoC. Both of them will have Active Edge feature to summon the Google Assistant. Google’s mid-range devices which were earlier thought to be called the Pixel 3 Lite and Pixel 3 Lite XL, will be called Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL, 9to5google has claimed citing a reliable source. The tech news platform also says that it can “independently confirm some previously-rumored specifications and offer some more details about the devices”. There is no word yet on the pricing or launch time/date, but the launch seems seems imminent. 9to5google confirms that the Pixel 3a will have a 5.6-inch display and the Pixel 3a XL will sport a 6-inch panel. Contrary to previous reports which said that the mid-range Pixel devices will have LCD panels, the latest report claims that both these phones will come with OLED displays. The Pixel 3a’s display has a resolution of 2220×1080 pixels at 440dpi. Unfortunately, there is no information on the display panel provider. The phones are reported to be offered in both Clearly White and Just Black colours, but Google may also launch a third colour with an aim to sell more units. To recall, Google launched the Pixel 3 device in Clearly White, Just Black and Not Pink colours. Both the phones will reportedly have Active Edge feature that lets users squeeze the phone to summon the Google Assistant, the Titan M security chip, eSIM support, and 64GB of internal storage. When it comes to the camera, the report claims that the camera outputs identical image quality to the Pixel 3, but the camera app has poorer performance. When it comes to the Pixel 3a, the tech news website says that the phone is expected to have 12MP camera on the back and an 8MP wide-angle front shooter. The battery on the Pixel 3a is said to be 3,000mAh. Under the hood, the phone is claimed to have Snapdragon 670 SoC and 4GB of RAM. 9to5google also lists some unconfirmed features such as battery capacity and the processor of the Pixel 3a XL. Previous reports have suggested that the larger variant will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 with 4GB of RAM, hence it is safe to say that it is still unclear how the two phones differ from each other. On Verizon-Google tie-up to launch these phones in the US, the news website says that its source couldn’t confirm anything, but suggested that the report is likely to be accurate.
