Highlights: Firefox Lite to be launched in India on March 13. The app is already available on Play Store. Hardcore Firefox fans will know that Mozilla launched a lighter version of its mobile web browser Firefox on Play Store in October 2017. Originally called Firefox Rocket, the browser was renamed Firefox Lite in November 2018. Mozilla is now launching the Firefox Lite officially in India on March 13, where Joe Chen, Head of Product and Charles Chen, Head of Business Development at Mozilla Asia will talk about how the new browser is fulfilling the needs of users and discuss local partnerships in India. Though the official launch of the mobile web browser is taking place next week, Firefox Lite has been available on Google Play Store since November last year. The app weighs about 3.6MB and can be downloaded for free on smartphones running Android 5.0 and higher. According to Mozilla, Firefox Lite has been designed for a lightweight browsing experience while ensuring privacy. The app aims to reduce data and resource consumption on smartphones, which is ideal for models with basic specifications. A Turbo Mode within the app blocks ads that follow users. Originally developed only for users residing in Indonesia, Firefox Lite is now available in China, Indonesia, India, The Philippines, and Thailand. As the app is designed to run on budget smartphones with little memory and storage space, you’ll find Firefox Lite available only on Google’s Play Store and not on Apple’s App Store. There’s no information so far on whether the community founded Mozilla will make an iOS version of Firefox Lite. Apart from Firefox Lite, Mozilla has two other mobile browser apps on offer: Firefox, which is full-featured and customisable, and Firefox Focus, an ad-blocking and tracking-protected variant of Firefox. Both Firefox and Firefox Focus are available on Google’s Play Store and Apple’s App Store. Of course, Mozilla still has its original PC browser, Firefox Quantum, which is available on Windows (64-bit and 32-bit), Linux (64-bit and 32-bit), and macOS.
