PUBG arrests: Eight more players booked under IPC section 188 in Gujarat

Eight more PUBG players were arrested in Gujarat and booked under Indian Penal Code section 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) for playing the viral battle royale game on Friday. The game was first banned in the state back in January, following which ten PUBG Mobile players were arrested in Rajkot, Gujarat on March 13. In the latest series of PUBG arrests, eight more players were held and booked under IPC Section 188 in the Ahmedabad and Himmatnagar areas of Gujarat. Of the Eight arrested players, seven are college students.  While the seven students were arrested from the Himmatnagar area, a 20 year old man was booked from the Rakhial area in Ahmedabad. The players have since been granted bail. All of them were allegedly found to be playing PUBG on their mobile phones after the Ahmedabad, Sabarkantha and Rajkot police banned PUBG Mobile and the MOMO challenge. While one is a video game which has gained a lot of popularity around the world, the other is a suicide challenge and the two have nothing in common. Meanwhile, PUBG Mobile India issued a statement  on Friday expressing its concerns about the spree of arrests and bans related to the game. “We were thus surprised to learn that local authorities in a few cities have decided to impose a ban on playing our game. We are working to understand the legal basis of such bans, and hope we can have a constructive dialogue with relevant authorities to explain our objectives and that they withdraw the prohibition. To PUBG MOBILE players, we want to assure you that we are on your side and we will try our best to find a reasonable solution,” said PUBG Mobile India in an official statement to Digit.
